  3. @Paul Ruinaard I feel you, I rode a C60 with Record and Rovals (did not buy anything new), and the joy that I felt most with that bike was it didn't feel like it was "aging out" as far as products go, it was an old bike but still made me feel like a princess when I brought it out, and it never failed to get compliments even amongst the S-Works crowd I rode with. Colnago Code aside that thing was a stunner, if it could fit even 28C as opposed to 25C tyres I would still be riding it, but at some point the comfort of a 30/32C tyre just became too appealing to ignore and owning it just to leave it on the wall felt excessive. I think what my intention is with this confession is that I do not oppose luxury.

  5. @rock Bruce Reyneke has the same Enve wheels listed for R69k and Bike Addict has Dura Ace for R64k that leaves us with R267 for the frameset and finishing kit (barstem, tyres, saddle etc.) which I reckon is a reach even for Colnago. No disrespect, I'm a big fan, my favourite bike I've owned was a C60 and I'm obligated to tell you that by the Colnago Code.
  6. @Paul Ruinaard your explanation makes the most sense to me - the point isn't that it's an expensive bike, the point is an opportunity to display that you bought something for R400k. Thus, the fact that the price is higher than the some of the parts is the point. I think what's kinda sad about that, is that building something up from the frame used to seem the most exotic and thus prestigious way to do it, but was also the most expensive - sad to see p#$%ing contests getting unimaginative. Number go up mentality I suppose. Love your sales tip by the way, appreciate it.
  7. @Dri I hear you, and I'm all for people spending whatever they feel is appropriate, but as mentioned in my post one can build a V5RS for less than what Cycle Lab has listed it for by ordering the parts and putting it together. The frame, group, wheels, and components don't add up to R400k. So the discussion is about the arbitrary way in which Cycle Lab has priced it.
  8. Hey hubbers, half rant half point for discussion, half the-answer-is-obvious. Checking the Cycle Lab website I see they've listed the Colnago V5RS for just under R400k. My question is, was this figure purely pulled out of a bum arbitrarily and is that how we're pricing bikes now? Or is it pure supply and demand as in someone will pay it so why not? I know bikes in general don't need to cost what they do but we generally accept that bikes are priced in tiers according to spec/prestige etc, so 105 bikes will cost x with varying prices according to prestige, Rival will cost 105 plus slightly more or less depending on Sram stock etc (although the new Rival group is cheaper?). BUT if we buy a V5RS frame from Sigma sports in the UK for example, you pay 120k - 150k if you want to include all the parts handlebar etc., then dura ace group and Enve wheels, it doesn't reach 400k from what I can see... So is it for the first time CHEAPER to actually buy a frame and build up from there simply because Cycle Lab decided they're going to price like silly-billies? They still list the Dogma F at 200k - 260k so is it just Colnago they're pricing up due to supposed scarcity and Pogflation? I know not all of us have friends in the UK through which we can buy frames and parts and bring them over etc, but I feel like people who could buy a bike for more than 200k probably do... So what is Cycle Lab doing?
  9. @Alliesmeister I would deeply consider keeping the chainrings stock and just getting a Sram 12 speed cassette. Shimano, Campy, and Sram 12-speed cassettes are all compatible with just a bit of old school indexing on the derailleur, if you sukkel on the donwhills having a 10-tooth cog will give you a much heavier gear to push while saving you the range of a 34 tooth little ring paired with whatever the top-end of the sram cassette is. Rival cassettes come in I think 10-33 or 10-36 so the range is massive. I am also light so I have the same problem, I had a 52/36 chainset and campy group with a rival 10-33 cassette and the range was amazing, but if you're considering budget you will get more value from the cassette than the chainrings.   10. I'm sorry to hear about your crash, and I hope are okay. My understanding is that you are including wheels that you don't own and did not insure, in your claim. May I ask if I am incorrect? It would make sense if the insurer is hesitant here, they may offer to cover the frame but not the wheels.
  11. Hi Michelle, welcome! Bottlery road is a very popular route, the square from stellies up towards the N1, on botties to kuilsriver and back via polkadraai is probably the most popular regular route in the area. I can't speak to any regular groups for a beginner to join but most days there will be enough other riders for you to be safe before or after work hours like in the mornings 05:30 - 07:00 ish although beware of traffic and remember to always ride with lights and spares. One thing to note if you do that block on your own, take the road that runs past Devonvale golf estate and JC Leroux then through Devon Valley to avoid riding past Kayamandi on your own, their have been a lot of opportunistic crimes on that road usually when riders are alone. Be safe out there and enjoy!

  13. I had an excellent experience with Cyclesure, stayed with them for years. Always great service, friendly team, quick responses. Claimed, and they did not treat me like a criminal but rather sympathised and helped me understand what they needed in terms of evidence to process the claim. Got my bike repaired, resprayed, and rebuilt. Would highly recommend.
  14. My pride and joy and one time, sold after not riding for a year, just felt guilty looking at it. C60 frame, 3T finishing kit, Campy Record 12 and Rovals, absolutely sublime. I hope to find something that feels like it again. As soon as I do hop back in the saddle...

  16. 1.84, 70KG, Size XS (Giant TCR, 515mm top tube). Usually a Medium on an MTB. My seatpost is out pretty far, I still have some left to go and am well within the safe limit there. I run a 110mm stem and I'm comfy as can be, slightly more comfy here than on my size 50s Colnago I had until October which had a 54cm top tube and a 100mm stem. But my bike is recommended for riders around 30cm smaller than I am. To be fair, I have a short inseam and a long upper body, but the fact that I'm super comfy on an XS makes me feel like bike companies are trying to me people feel inadequate with their size names. Whenever I see people with their seat-posts hardly out with 90mm stems I think there goes another victim of odd sizing conventions.
  17. @Phillippe Coetzee @cadenceblur some input, I am 26, I started cycling and did my first CTCT in 2021, I got a sub 3 last year (2023) starting from group 1A. I rode two or three times a week until Autumn 2022 when I started doing 6 - 8 hours a week spread over usually four or five rides. I also rode a high-end bike (I dare say it but it makes life easier). I also did several races from summer 2022 throughout the season to get a good seeding. I would suggest joining one very fast group ride once a week. Hindsight being 20/20, I would have made my goal sub-3 by 2024, the time spent etc. You don't want to wake up one morning and feel sick of cycling. Pace yourself and enjoy the ride.

  20. From the POV of someone currently listing a very beautiful Colnago, it feels awful to reduce the price, but it does seem they are sitting.
  21. 10 vs 11 speed won't make a huge difference until you're a fair way along your road bike journey IMO. 10-speed stuff is also very cheap which is nice. The Argon 18 will probably be an awesome bike just ask if you can get a newbie discount.
  22. Just read up about this event for the first time... It looks awesome! It's a bit late for this year but I know what my next goal is, I just hope there are enough riders to actually have a seeded batch and not just Elites and age groups.
  23. If you are going to have an insurance claim, would you rather deal with another cyclist or someone that doesn't know how to ride a bike? I think your answer reveals what flavour of claimee you are. Edit: I'm sorry to hear about the delay on your wheel, I hope you get it in time for CTCT if you are riding. Let us when you get it and if all is well once it arrives.
