  1. This spybike gadget looks fantastic, does anyone in SA have any experience of this unit? This looks fantastic, would be great to hear from someone that has used this in SA.
  2. Its not bike shops that are bad, it is credit cards that are bad!
  3. Damn, this reinforces the importance of having some kind of identification with you when cycling. I usually stick my drivers license and medical aid card in my pocket when I head out cause from what I have heard if the car doesn't kill you JHB Gen Hospital probably will. Also hope this cyclist is ok and his family finds him quick quick.
  4. You might be on to something, perhaps we can start combination of cross training here, the 'South Africa triathlon'... cycling, running and kick boxing!!
  5. Attach with velcro on the handlebars!
  6. He mentioned to me lastnight exactly where it happened, but haven't cycled in that area a lot myself so not too familiar with it. Will get more precise info when I see him tonight and let you know. I know a lot of people cycle on Krugersdorp hill, Alec has been cycling there for years very often alone and has never had an incident before.
  7. Some feedback, Alec is out of theatre, and is doing alright, still in a lot of pain though. We are still waiting for feedback from the orthopaedic surgeon about the tendon in his arm. Thanks for the messages, I will convey to him all the support and encouragment from the Hub. More feedback as we receive it.
  8. Hi all Just to let you know, my brother in law Alec, Mad Dog on the Hub, was mugged and stabbed several times while mountain biking around Krugersdorp hill yesterday afternoon. He was cycling alone, a guy ambushed him, pushed him off his bike and stabbed him repeatedly. Fortunately Alec managed to get hold of his pepper spray canister and managed to administer several doses of pepper spray to the guy's face and this evetually drove him off. In the process he received several stab wounds in the arms, back and chest. His R lung was punctured and a tendon in his L arm severed. He lost a huge amount of blood. Fortunately he managed to hang onto his cellphone and after the guy left (on Alec's bike) he called a friend who came to pick him up and rushed him to Krugersdorp Private Hospital where he spent the night in ICU. He has been in surgery this morning to reattach the severed tendon in his arm. We are still waiting for feedback. Will update this post as soon as I know how he is doing. In the meantime, please be on the lookout for a silver Trek Fuel Ex7 with Garmin Edge 705. If anytime tries to sell it to you please take it from them and administer repeated swift HARD kicks to the groin. Then when the guy is down on the ground feel free to continue administering those swift HARD kicks to the head and call me on 082 4179191. Please spread the word about this amongst your cycling mates. It is clear that our play grounds, the tracks and trails around JHB aren't safe anymore. Perhaps this isnt a suprise to any of us as this isnt the 1st incident of this nature to be posted on this forum. Another one of our personal freedoms and something that we love about this country down the tubes. So be alert and most importantly cycle in groups.
  9. Thanks, this is excellent, useful info! I didn't know that there isn't duty on bicycle parts... CRC here I come!!
  10. The only problem with online bike shops is that the websites are so friggin addictive! Screw facebook, CRC, Wiggle, Evans Cycles etc that is my weakness!
  11. Most definitely Lance Armstrong! Check out the clips of his 2001 Tour de France ascent of Alpe D'Huez on youtube, inspirational stuff!
  12. I've had several pairs of Ocean eyewear polarized sunglasses. Use them for cycling, fishing, general daily use. They aren't very expensive usually R200 - R300. I would recommend them to anyone

    Wind

Did a ride in the Cradle on Sunday. It seemed that whichever way we turned we had the wind head one. Unpleasant!
  14. Hi all Need some advice on the use of rollers vs. stationary trainer. Would like to have the option of IDT available for rainy days. Seems I can get rollers much cheaper (R500) than stationary trainer (R1500). Are you able to adjust the tension/ resistance on the rollers in a similar way to that of the stationary trainer?
