  1. I had a good ride into work (Cape Town CBD) this morning. I caught a whole bunch of riders at Woodbridge Island at just after 7h00. I stayed with them only for a short while. Was that the "bike bus" coming from Milnerton?
  2. This morning at Woodbridge Island I noticed there is big patch of burnt grass next to the cycle lane. Does anyone know what that is about?
  3. Excellent video. lifted my spirits. Thank you for the post
  4. Last week, one evening after 22h00 I was working in my outside study when my wife called me to come help. This little creature decided to randomly venture into our house via the open back door. We have no idea where he came from and he must have travelled a fair distance to reach that point of the house. How he managed to escape the cats, only he will know. Anyway, we have spoken to a number of the nearby neighbours, and no one seems to know to whom he belongs. Almost ten days later we have decided to adopt him and my wife dubbed him "Mannemarak"
  5. Does the wind gods respond to the wind dance in the same way that the rain gods respond to the rain dance. In which case, perhaps we should stay away from the wind dance... pray maybe?
  6. I cycle from Welgemoed to CBD. I don't ride it every day, but I know one two people that do. Starting point is the Engen on Jip de Jager. Let me know if you are interested.
  7. I am riding a standard crank with a 10 speed. The 12-27 speed seemed to be the right answer. As Maniax said, the 11 cog is used seldom and I was concerned about the jumps in the 11-28 cassette. Thanks!
  8. Hi Everyone. I need some advice on the purchase of a new roadbike cassette. I am a big guy, weigh in at about 94kg. I find that on the longer hills I really struggle i.e. going up Vissershok in the 99er I went at about 6-8km/h. Going up at that steep gradient was a real slog and it would have been helpful to have that one extra gear to shift down. Anyway, I need to replace my cassette soon. I am currently riding with an 11-25 cassette and could go to a 11-28 cassette or a 12-27 cassette. What would you recommend? Thanks
  9. I am so keen on a new set of wheels, but I'd waking up a storm at home if I bought them now. Hope you can keep them under the radar...
  10. Awesome post! I am not yet in the market for a new bike, but after your post I will definitely shop around more when I do decide to get a new bike. May you have many happy miles on the new wheels.
  11. I wasn't that excited about the Argus, especially after last year when I had limited time to train for the Argus. This year the Argus has not been one of my big goals, I thought I would do it for the fun of it. I've been commuting to work regularly and done two races. I did a decent time on the 99er and suddenly the mind starts thinking "How can I maximise the training time left to the Argus?" or "Maybe, just maybe I can do a PB this year?" The excitement is all there again. I want to go ride now...
  12. That moment when your wheels start sliding sideways under you as you take a turn in the wet and understand why the Marshal was shouting "Do not ride on the yellow line!!!"
  13. I bought one through VW which was surprising much cheaper than Thule's. Have been using it for a couple of years now and no issues.
  14. Drat, just found out my weekends are booked.
  15. My scope for riding over weekends have been limited of late, so I take the opportunities I get, which at present is commuting. Anyway, yesterday it wasn't bucketing down. but it certainly was wet. More water being kicked up from the road than anything else. I was drenched in about 5 minutes, and from there on it was really fun. I don't know why, but I always enjoy riding in the rain, once I've gotten over the initial shock of the cold. The traffic was crazy, and I flew past cars for pretty much all the way. It was a good day to ride. Today however, I am back on the train.
  16. I'll report back, if I missed the buckets this afternoon
  17. The rain is not so bad. You can only get wet until you're drenched, and after that it is fun, provided the ride is not too long, say less than 90min. Also, the rain in Cape Town is generally a gentle drizzle and seldom bucketing down, like the forecast for my trip home this afternoon...

    Cricket......

I was getting excited about the Aussies pulling one back and making it a contest. It seems their test batting is about as reliable as our ODI batting. This is not good for cricket.
  19. I had an opportunity to listen to Phil in person after the LA confession. He talked quite openly about it and was grieved by him doping. I however find it interesting some of the comments about him supporting the wrong guy. Who should he have supported, Jan Ulrich? There wasn't any "clean" options at the time. edit: typo
  20. I agree and I was careful (my opinion of course). I certainly did not race to get past the car and would have been quite happy for the motorist to go ahead of me. By the amount of time that lapsed from me seeing the car and it stopped and the time I reached the car it appeared that the car was waiting for me to cross. It seems my interpretation was wrong.
  21. The thought crossed my mind, however we live in the same suburb and our paths are bound to cross sometime again. I'd rather not provoke the person and be roadkill next time round.
  22. I had a real scary moment this morning on my ride into work. Left at 6h30 this morning so it was nice and dark. I had all my lights on, with batteries charged. That is two front lights, one constant and one blinking and two rear lights blinking. Less than a km from my home, the road is slightly up hill, I am a bit unfit so going rather slowly. I approach a T-junction , with me being on the primary road and a car joining in from the secondary road. There is a stop for the secondary road. I check out the car, the car is waiting, I pass in front of the car, the driver decides to go as I am right in front of the car. Next thing I hear is my nobblies grazing the bumper of the car  . Fortunately the motorist woke up from his / her brain freeze and stopped. I pulled off to the far side of the rode to catch me breath and thank God I am alive. The motorist drove off without a word. I saw the motorist at the next intersection, but decided to just keep peddling. All I can say. Be safe out there!
  23. Please send me prices of the road wheels.
