I still think the maxis mimo is a great tyre. Works quite well in the mud too.

From experience the foldable SB 8 is a bit of a saga to seal until you have ridden it a couple of times. Once you have inflated the wheel and shaken it vigorously you must lie it flat (on top of a bucket works great) and rotate it a few times. Best though is to do a long ride as soon as you have inflated. The conti's work fine, but do have weak sidewalls. I would not put a SB 8 on the front - handling will be terrible!

Swift, what would the weight be of the Corima tubeless?

1.9 Small block 8 (folding) on the back - good rolling resistance, but will need to change for winter 2.0 Maxxis Mimo (folding) on the front - reasonably light and grippy on the corners. Reasonable in mud.

Unless your shoes are super floppy, I can't really see how the size of the contact area makes a difference to the transfer of power from your legs to the cranks. If it was an issue I assume the pros would be using teh candy's.

The fork technology is essentially the same as the Fox terralogic (i.e. the F 80/100 X).

I also can't vote. I use a Maxxis Mimo on the front and a Kenda SB8 on the back. Both folding, converted to tubeless with Stans.

I have the carbon sole Shimano's (sorry can't remember the model number). They are very robust and were quite reasonably priced (I think about R 1300). Have now lasted me two years. For the fashion conscious, white Sidi dragons seem to be the rage!

8.3kgs is not bad for any bike! Any idea what spec the fork is? Its obviously a Spes proprietry shock, but wouldn't be surprised if its based on someone else's technology.

Replacement derrailure hanger is very NB. My partner at Sani2c broke his and ended up riding a single speed for a day and a half as he could not get a replacement over night. You can imagine how happy I was!

Having read the other thread and the Schwalbe article, I think that tyre pressure essentially needs to balance three things: 1. Rolling resistance i.e. speed where tractional and control are not a factor. Here high pressure is better, but too high and you get a bone jarring ride. 2. Uphill traction. Low is better, but up to a point. 3. Downhill traction. Low is definitely better, but too low and you risk tyre rips. I still feel that based on experience 2 bar is the happy medium, with 1,5 for very loose riding.

What would be really nice (and settle this argument) is to have a demo day where the main pedal suppliers (and other suppliers for that matter) get together and allow us riders to test their products. The bike shops generally don't have demo / used pedals that you can try out.

I am also using folding SB8s and they do tend to loose some air on rides. I suspect the lateral flex in the tyre causes the tyre to 'burp' some of its air out. I just make sure I start the ride at 2 bar

If you think SA is any worse than say Brazil or Sudan or Iran or Bosnia or any other place where you have a high proportion of poor people to wealthy people then you are kidding yourself. The point I was making was that people (including those in well off parts of the world) will rape, pillagem, steal and murder if they decide it suits them and that they can get away with it.

All singeltrack should be 2-way unless there is some element of safety involved. Personally I think the downhill rider has right of way as this is the 'natural' direction in which singletrack is ridden. The obvious exception is flat singletrack where a game of 'chicken' applies!

Hi Marius, I think that shorter races are suiting me at the moment. My max HR is 188 bpm.
