  1. 3 for the Anthem carbon, coz I own one! But seriously there is no pedal bob and very good lateral stiffness. The only downside to the anthem is that you are limited to 3.5" travel and the damping is quite firm. Whilst I see the appeal of single pivot in that it is light and easier to maintain, there is always going to be lateral play and pedal bob. My 2c!

  3. It does seem to work well on pedals and is a lot less messy. Expensive though.
  4. While we are on this topic, is there any benefit to the use of copper slip?
  5. Hi Johan, any intentions of holding a course in Cape Town?
  6. On a lighter note, http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/humour-a-complaint-to-mellow-johnnys-bike-shop-15260 Classic!
  7. My theory is that it is easier to pedal against a steady resistance, but there are other theories. I seem to recall this being discussed on the Hub a while back and on cyclingnews.com. I don't think that you would get inflated results from a 1.5 to 2.5 % incline.
  8. The calipers are cross-compatible. Your choice will normally be limited by the hubs that you have, although you can get adaptors. I suspect that the only advantage of c-lock rotors is that they are easier to take on and off.
  9. I find the same thing. I'm more inclined to think that the difference is due to motivation (or lack thereof!) rather than heat. I think that it is best to test your FTP on an incline as it prevents you from slacking or freewheeling. However if the incline is to steep then I think that you can inflate your results by going into the VO2 max zone.
  10. Agree with MS. It just proves his point that a lot of people in SA are verkramp and not good at dealing with the opinions of others.
  11. They sound like a complete saga to set up correctly and require frequent calibration. Aparently they do not give accurate readings if used in a bunch or when ridden into a strong head wind.
  12. Are the LOOKs available in SA yet?
  13. Hi, If you need a decent Canon telephoto either get the 70-200 f4 L or possibly the 70-300 IS USM. I think both cost about R 7 000 though, so it really depends how much you want to spend.
  14. Unless you really need to save seconds, full sus is the way to go. Even then Sauser and a lot of the other top guys are now riding full sus (the guy who finished second at the Jonkershoek national was on a giant anthem). Personally I would recommend either the Anthem Advanced, Scott Spark or new 'dale Scalpel. I've got the Anthem and really happy with it. probably also the best value frame). As for components, get a set of Stans Olympic ZTRs and then buy the groupset you can afford. XTR is nice, but I'm not convinced that it is worth the extra (read double) cost. The new XT is really light.
  15. Its also a big difference in time zones and the jet lag is generally worse when you fly from here east. I know from experience that I felt terrible the day after the flight! I'm not sure whether it is CSA or the riders' teams who are to blame, but we really need to sort this sort of issue out...
  16. A bit off-topic, but the PowerTap MTB disc tub is now on the Saris site. Trying to find out SA prices from Adrian. Seems that it will only be available in 2.4 wireless (which is quite sensible for MTB anyway) and a bit heavier than the road version (although it is not clear from the site whether the quoted weight includes the rotor).
  17. Stans + normal tyres, but as others have said you risk sidewall cuts. Have been using stans and normal for about three years now and have discovered: 1.Conti twister supersonics - about 350 g but will tear after about 10 seconds of riding. Also very sketchy in SA conditions. 2.Schwalbe Racing Ralphs - about 450 g. very nice, but very expensive and also quite weak. 3.Maxxis Mimos - also about 450g and (touch wood) not had a single problem. Last surprsining long. 4.Kenda SB8 - about 500g nice low rolling resistance for the back wheel. Side wall did eventually fail, but only after a lot of riding. New one is (touch wood) holding up fine. Has anybody used the Bontrager sealant ready tyres? Also look like a good option
  18. Please let us know if you find out. I would also like to get one.
  19. Having recently been involved in a bad car-related accident I'm really glad I had shaved legs!
  20. That's great news! Who did you hear this from and do you know if they will have the 2.4 wireless version?
  21. Three weeks ago I was hit by a car whilst training with the result that I now need to acquire a new frame (my Scott CR1 Team issue was literally cut in half!). My budget is limited to the R 15 000 - R 20 000 range. The Stevens SLC seems to be quite a good option. The frame weighs in at 922g and costs about R 18 000,00. It is a relatively unknown brand though and I was wondering if anybody has had any expereinces, good or bad. Thanks for your help!
  22. I seem to recall that similar projects in other parts of the country have worked really well. Remember that it is generally only a small percentage of poor communities that resort to crime. If you give the kids something to call their own, they will fight tooth and nail to look after it.
  23. Wow that's really awesome. Hope they kick some but!
  24. I think that the only bike that uses the bottom bracket front der mount is the Scott Genius
  25. Last time I entered something online, it told me that my 2007 CSA licence was valid until end March 2008. No idea if this is true or not!
