  1. Well that is your opinion but out of curiosity have you ever used Hope brakes?
  2. I'm going to chime in here and give my 2 cents I'm currently running Saint brakes (version 2) on my bike and to be honest can't see it lasting another round of brake pads before they give out. Shimano brakes can't be serviced where Hopes can and lets be honest for the same type of moola why would anyone choose Shimano? I for one won't make this mistake again Yes I know this is horses for courses and each to his own but the quality of machining on the Hopes are far superior to Shimano's manufacturing Should you not want to drop 300 Euros on a set of brakes then by all means the bang for buck on the lower models of Shimano brakes are hard to beat
  3. Posted a picture on the "Your Enduro Ride" page 74 https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/126041-your-enduro-ride/page__st__1168
  4. I can honestly say that I was also sceptical about the design and the placement of the rear shock. After adding one of those shock boots I can tell you that the rear shock is protected.(It is still early days though) It's as plush as a DH bike and it climbs like a goat with minimal bob. Once the bike settles into its sag it just works
  5. For that type of moola you could get a boutique brand frame and dream spec build Why anyone would spend that type of money on a GT is beyond me but I guess having the Athertons on your payroll does play havoc with your cash flow
  6. Yes you get a neoprene guard that one can clip onto the linkages to keep the muck off or you can just run a rear shock boot. Example here (note this is for a coil shock but you should get the idea) http://www.chainreac...12/rp-prod59097 I can tell you that it is what I'm running on my Meta and it works a treat
  7. That price is for 32t and 34t only 36t is R599 http://www.buycycle....ring-12533.html
  8. Thanks for the feedback and now I guess the next step would be to pull the trigger and order
  9. Glad to hear you have had good results so far. Keep us updated
  10. Is anybody on here currently running the Race Face narrow wide chainring and if so could you provide real life feedback? I'm in two minds about purchasing one as I would like to loose the chainguide on my bike but not at the cost of shedding the chain. The setup will include a type 2 Sram x9 rear deraileur
  11. Photo taken yesterday of the descent into the escarpment
  12. The one tool to rule them all is PARK TOOL IB-3 I-Beam Mini Fold Up and currently available from Buycycle for 250 Rondz http://www.buycycle....c-parktool.html
  13. I concur that Fuzz does look sweet
  14. Why did you push the pistons out? This has got nothing to do with shortening of the hose and in all likelyhood you now need to rebuild the calipers. ".......but the rear had some mineral oil next to the caliper and there was no pressure in the lever." Could you explain this more as I don't understand what you are trying so state here
  15. Thanks I just spilt coffee over my keyboard laughing at this
  16. Once you go 1 ring upfront you will never go back. Currently running 1x10 11/36 and I'm able to pedal almost up anything and the 36 upfront gives you the speed for the downs.
  17. jdb10810 I dont mean to rain on your parade but should you take some of those spacers out underneath your stem and drop the bars a bit you might find some extra cornering traction in the front
  18. Thanks I'm constantly taking this bike out for +60km pedals and find myself grabbing this bike more often out of the quiver than any of my other bikes. I don't know how I will ever do this bike justice as she really comes alive when pointed downhill and the going gets fast Amazing what 7" can do in the rear
  19. Well here she is Super fun all round ripper and pedals amazingly well for what it is. The build Intense Uzzi VPX with 150mm rear dropouts Marzocchi 66 ATA forks Saint brakes(Goodridge conversion f&r), rotors, cranks, shifter and rear derailleur Atomlab Trailking pedals Sun Ringle 20mm front hub laced to a Mavic hoop Sun Ringle 150mm x 12mm rear hub laced to a Mavic hoop E13 chain guide Race Face 38t front chainring Sunline 50mm stem Answer handlebars cut down to 760mm Rolling on Schwalbe front and Michellin rear rubber
  20. "Life is short, trails are even shorter, and I don’t believe there is a single moment spent on the trail when it is acceptable to settle for mediocrity. We should all ride the bikes we find most comfortable, and enjoy them without worrying about what others think" Enough said Let me get my credit card as this gives me good reason to go and buy that Voltage FR10 I have been drooling over the last couple of months
  21. SICK! Jumping these must feel awesome. 5th gear pinned
  22. Definitely go with a female axle system. No need to get an angle grinder to make em' fit. If your on a budget get the Octane One hub or you could always go for the NS one
  23. What an amazing experience A big thank you to the organisers, the VG trail builders, the lady flashing and all the people in the background that you don't see. Will definitely be doing this again. JOB WELL DONE!
