  1. This is following on from this thread: http://www.thehubsa....ithout-sealant/ So I decided to change my sealant myself and see how it goes. I removed my Mountain King from my Alex 44 rim. Came off easily. Inside I found one of these (the spongy thing, not the bomb): http://www5.picturepush.com/photo/a/8107753/220/8107753.jpg I then scrubbed as much of the old sealant from the rim and the inside of the tire. Big mission but I got most of it off. I wanted to see if I could get the tire back on so did so without sealant just to see if I could get it on. With the floor pump, never. With a bomb, easy peasy. I inspected the inside of the tire carefully and could find no evidence of any thorns or puctures whatsoever. Did I then need to have sealant in the past? Dunno. I any case I'm off to add new sealant as per advice received.
  2. http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/alligator-center-lock-adapters Do the Alligator Center Lock Adapters enable one to use 6 bolt rotors on centre lock hubs? Do I have that right? http://www.cwcycles.co.za/sites/default/files/imagecache/250x250sc/product_images/alligator_adapter.jpg
  3. Thanks very much for all that. I'm more of a weekend warrior doing a couple of 30km rides a week. The main reason for my question was really to bring maintenance down. No need to check and refill sealant every few months. I have just got back from my LBS with a fresh bottle of Stan's will be renewing my sealant tonight. I'm interested to see if there is evidence of thorns or other punchtures when I get inside the tires. I'll report back on this post. Many thanks to you and all the other hubbers for all the info supplied so far.
  4. Very good point. I don't make it too technical.
  5. So full dose if I leave it in for a long time and half dose if I change it often?
  6. Eina! Mine has been is for almost a year.
  7. Thanks. What brand and how much sealant do you use?
  8. I'm looking to replace my Race king / mountain king combo. I liked the race king but found the mountain king (protection not the mkII) heavy and slow (rolling resistance). I was thinking x-king front and back, but the reviews here http://www.mtbr.com/cat/tires-and-wheels/tire/continental/x-king/prd_456335_151crx.aspx#reviews seem pretty negative. Anybody tried the x-kings? How about the race kings front and back? I ride single track and not very technical trails (and a bit of tar - gasp!).
  9. That seems to be the general feeling here. Thanks.
  10. I don't think I have ever had a puncture. How much sealant should I add? Is Stan's the best?
  11. Haha. Thanks for the replies. It's time to change my sealant and I was wondering if it's helped me at all. I don't think it has. I have tubes with sealant on my road bike I know it has saved me twice. On the mountain bike I don't think it ever has hence the question.
  12. Can I and should I run my UST tires without sealant? I am not a very technical rider, I ride the spruit and that kinda thing. No sealant = cheaper, lighter, less mission
  13. What do Graemes saddles cost?
  14. Bwahahaha. I so suffer from that kinda thing. Another reason to hold back. I know if I order from CRC once, it's all over.
  15. I see that thanks. Excludes postage Vat etc. I also like to support local and have some local backup if there is an issue.
  16. You made your own? Tell us more.
  17. Thanks Santa. Where did you buy it?
  18. I have a Polar only because of Discovery. I hate it. Today the HRM isn't picking up, tomorrow it's the cadence. I sold Garmins for a few years and found their service first class. Surprised okes battle with service. They were certainly a very arrogent company to deal with, but they did deliver.
  19. Thanks to all for the great replies. This is the item i'm after. http://www.ctasports...%252d10%29.html I think I'll go for this one rather. http://www.buycycle.co.za/buyparts/stands-and-racks/parktool-en-2-3/park-tool-home-mechanic-repair-stand-pcs-10-parktool.html Checked with two LBS's and they go for R2,500 or more. Any other recommendations for a work stand?
  20. How long should they last? Any idea of the price?
  21. As the title says, anyone ordered from www.ctasports.co.za? They have an item I want at a good price. They don't have a phone number or address which makes me nervous.
