  1. You must be pretty bored, nothing else to do?
  2. We plan to cycle to Riebeek Kasteel tomorrow morning, leaving at 07h00 from The Lodge in Durban Road, Bellville. We will probably get there, after ? 3 hours (75kms), have breakfast at the Jolly Olive Restaurant. Make it a family outing - come back by car or cycle back Interested? Jan (High Flyers) at jjbmo@telkomsa.net (I need to get the numbers to do the booking)
  3. Yesterday's Rapport : "Lemmer berig 'gister dat hy n wit lugwaardin aangespreek het ..."
  4. Shame on you cervelo. This kind of remark is neither funny nor constructive! To top it off, it was a "white" girl!
  5. I am not quite au fait with what Steve said. But you know what? In the real world people live, they love and they die. That, my friends are common knowledge. However, the difference comes in where we, the general public, the govement, or for that matter, any controlling body comes in. Whether it be athletics (sic), rugby (?) or cricket(?), the question arises, do we make a difference as to the quality, the prominence or the integrity of the sport. We have seen over the years that the staying power, the will, the enthusiasm lacks in our sport. WE simply don't have people representing our sport with the love and determination that it so dearly needs! It is for that reason that we quite often find private individuals trying to say something, trying to stand up for our case - unfortunately without a podium!
  6. Durbanville cycling community are stunned! Bennie Booysen was tragically killed whilst training alone near Durbanville on Saturday. A 49 year old driver of a blue Jetta has been charged with culpable homicide....!! The closer it gets, the more it hurts!! Our heart goes out to his loved ones!!
  7. It seems to me some of you guys like to "kloof hare" Earlier in the thread I mentioned that I have a "brand new", blue Park Tool, not yet modified, ruler - but alas, no takers!
  8. Then I wouldn't be too greedy to offer one @ R 110 for a brand new one? (I've got two) By the way, I am in Bellville
  9. Nice break down of the facts Johan! Your technical input is always appreciated! What does a blue Park Tool ruler retails for - any idea?
  10. Hi to all the High Flyers, Last weekend it was evident that the Cape was made for cycling! It is really such an uplifting experience to see so many riders on the road! However, we have touched on this subject before. Jokingly we remarked that the chances of you being greeted by a fellow cyclist isn't great. The higher the price of the bike, the less chance that he'll greet! Weird but to some extent, true? Maybe we can work on this? The south easter will be omni present all weekend. We plan to ride to Malmesbury tomorrow, therefore coming back will be quite "entertaining." But you all know that the wind has a cyclist's number! You go out against the wind, savouring the thought that you'll at least get it from behind on your return trip - and then, only to find that the wind has beaten you to it - it's reg in die bek! If there are any Hubbers who would like to join us - please feel free, you are most welcome. Let me have your e-mail address and I will add your name to our mailing list. STARTING TIME @ 06h00 from The Lodge opposite Parc du Cap in Durban Road. Saturday Malmesbury via Durbanville ? 110kms Sunday Suikerbossie via Milnerton and Sea Point. ? 85km Food for thought: "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts!" 11. I send out a weekly (usually Friday mornings) "newsletter" giving the riders some information what rides are planned for the weekend. As far as possible we stick to the route mentioned in order for riders, living in that area, to join us en route. It is an "open" group, and as such, everybody is welcome. Furthermore: We try to cater for all levels of riders ie. fast, slow, long rides etc (obviously depending on the numbers) We stop when somebody punctures or needs helpWe abide by the traffic lawsWe just love cycling, so no "politics"The group has been riding consistently for ? 4 yearsMaybe I can put the "newsletter" on The Hub on Friday mornings? Any suggestions? Regards Jan NICK GELDENHUYS PROPERTY GROUP jjbmo@telkomsa.net 082 889 6380 Cicada2008-12-12 00:26:51

  14. Hi Graham, As long as the guys commit themselves, we can sort out the logistics later! Sure the Traffic Dept will have to be present.
  15. Splat: I spoke to Gary at Cyclelab - they will be the facilitators in the Southern Subs Hagar: Had the same idea - she's very busy - TIME!! We want to get going! Winter and darkness very much present! Butafly: The press will only be interested if "names" are present. There are simply not enough motorists on the roads at 08h00 on a Saturday morning to make any impact, even though the group might be pretty big! So we need the press!Cicada2008-05-29 11:30:09
  16. Hi Guys, This is more or less what we have in mind. We are still "working" on the name. We feel that we want to be a bit more creative, so we hope to come up with a more "funky" name. Even a "catchy" word in one of the black languages will do just fine. So, if you have any suggestions, please let us have it! The idea is to get well-known people to take part. The only way that we'll get the attention of the press! Unfortunately most of our top cyclists aren't even commonly known to the general public. On the other hand, let's face it, the Stormers will draw a lot of attention. Cricketers, retired or current, will probably have the same impact. This is merely an example. Thankfully quite a few "celebs" have committed themselves already! It really is time that we all stand up for our convictions. Too many cyclists have been killed or injured by the indiscretions of motorists. The stats are really really shocking of how many "hit and run " accidents we've had this year alone Three days ago, in Gauteng, a cyclist was killed and two of his friends landed up in hospital! Not to even mention the case of the late Simon Streicher in Milnerton. Let us take a stand and take hands in this serious matter. Come and join us! The planned agenda as follows: Date : June 21, 2008 Various groups meet at the V&A Waterfront We cycle from the Velodrome (where there is ample parking and a "car guard") Riders from Somerset West, Paarl, Stellenbosch and Somerset West join us here We leave not later than 08h00 in order to meet the other groups at 10h00 at the V&A Cycle at 20-25km/hour Meet the groups from Constantia, Table View, BEN at the V&A Somebody will say a few words for the benefit of the press Joint groups will do a short ride through Sea Point and back to the V&A where we'll each go our separate ways. I would like you to get confirmation of the "celebs" who you think would be interested in taking part. Pass it on to me so that we can get the attention of the press! We are positive that this effort will not go unnoticed. That it will make the difference we envisage!! Kind regards Jan Opperman 082 889 6380
  17. Early Sunday morning a cyclist was killed in an accident near Milnerton. Anybody any more info?
  18. Do I smell something? Is this badmouthing or what? Give the guys at Edge a chance! The frames will be made in Taiwan (like most of the "genuine" carbon frames currently on the world market! I think it is such an exiting project, all the best to the Edge management! Another "six" for South African entrepeneuralship!!
  19. Carefull with the Rennies! Any Calcium-sensitive people must be cautious! Do "kidney stones" ring a bell?
  20. The "not so young" will remember Campag rims on Alfas! Sorry was'nt following the thread!!Cicada2008-01-23 04:03:25
  21. I still have a number of drop outs for various models in the Battaglin line up. (I used to import the brand) Maybe I can help. Ciao Jan
  22. I have presented a couple of cycle maintenance courses. Very often you hear " I did'nt know it is that easy" or "never knew I would be able to do it myself" Guys don't kid yourself, like any technical course, reading is one thing and doing it a hell of a lot different! Ask Johan Borman whether he agrees? Once you've seen it being done, the written word makes a lot more sense!
  23. Skynbaar net die beriggie in Die Burger (iemand het dit reeds geplaas) van gister, maar geen verdere nuus nie.
  24. Anybody any info regarding the cyclist that was killed on the Bottelary road? Apparently two guys were hit by a motor vehicle late afternoon on Monday?
