  1. Unfortunately they had to cancel our swim leg at the Theewaterskloof Ultra on Sunday. They postponed the start with about an hour hoping the water temperature would rise. With the final measurement at 11.4 degrees celsius, it was too low and the officials had no choice according to the triathlon rules to exclude the swim. They decided on a run-bike-run instead. ???? It changes the race strategically too, as some of us were planning on stealing time from the swim to ease the cycle. .... But the day turned out great. ???? I need a lot more run training though ????
  2. Thank you, good luck to you and hubby too. I'm 133, and my partner is 104 ????
  3. Wow ... look at the wind speed .... can't ask for better than that, going to be awesome!!! ????
  4. yes .. the runoff from the snow is going to cool the water, and the air temp isn't great at 7:30 either. I always struggle those first few strokes, trying to force my face into the water ....
  5. hi ... yes, we've been keeping an eye on the weather for Theewaterskloof all week
  6. Sorry to hear ... hope you heal up soon ..
  7. How did you decide on who's doing which leg? Would imagine it being a fist-fight for the cycle? I can't run to save my life .... doing the run in 10 & 1's.
  8. Doing my firtst Ultra in 2 week's time at Theewaterskloof, and just had a look at the cycle profile. Have to do 3 loops for the 90k cycle. That hill is nearly at 6% for 2.5km .... Copied the Power images from Bicycling - website. Wish I had a bit more time to lose weight, although I am more worried about the 21km run. Is it normal for Triathlons to have hills like this .... thought triathlons was generally flat so as to be able to compare time between different 70.3 events? .... lots of fun awaiting us ...
  9. 25mm but 26/27mm on the rim
  10. I just mounted Mavic Yksion Pro UST tyres to Mavic Open Pro Tubeless rims ... I hope I don't regret going road tubeless. Mixed Stan's Race and Stan's std Sealant 50/50, at about 80cc to each tyre.
  11. Thank you for your help guys .... another hubber just pm'd me ... he takes a route from Mowbray to Tygervalley nearly daily ... I'm going to try and join him for the commute. Thank you for all your advice ... really glad I enquired here
  12. Hi Guys ... the N7 crossing 5days a week morning, and evening is bit ruff. I have also been thinking about something like this .... I just don't know what to do about the Woodstock bridge crossing?
  13. Hi. Our offices moved from Cape Town CBD to Tygervalley, and I now subsequently have to find a new route. Anyone know a cycle route from Observatory to Tygervalley? Any and all help appreciated ...
  14. my daily commute involve Albert road through Woodstock, and I can vouch first-hand that yesterday, on my commute from the CBD, back to Claremont I saw at least half a dozen vehicles (parked in the cycle lane) with tickets stuck to their windows. I reckon there was a few irate vehicle owners yesterday ......
  15. ..... problem with stickers is that retribution will be against the cyclist, not the authorities..... I commute the same road everyday, ... through Woodstock, .... There is no way I'm "plakking" a sticker on someone's car, just to have that driver open a door on me tomorrow..... or trying to drive me off the road for sticking offending stickers on his car ....
  16. Nice photo! A perfect reflection of what happens ... Taxi is using the green cycle lanes to move past the traffic and the vehicles moving left to try and block it from passing ......
  17. They were massive through May , but seems as if most of them have now been filled up, especially now that they started to paint the lanes green ...
  18. it is amazing as to all the potential 'fails' we have to look out for as commuting cyclists. Cars parked taking off, opening car doors, pedestrians, debris, potholes, construction equipment, taxi's, left turns, cars parking, and looking for parking, buses stopping veering left, hardware protruding from vehicles, ... double parked cars sending us off into oncoming traffic ... guys skipping red lights as we move across pedestrian crossings at bike paths .... I have lately had some buses hoot at me from far behind on Albert road, and even Liesbeeck, as warning that they are coming ........ which I actually welcome ... especially in the mornings when they come past at 100km/h ... gives you time to brace yourself.
  19. I've got one of those shiny bells on my handlebars. My thumb works overtime in the afternoons through Albert Road in Woodstock. At about 10m to go, if no response, I start talking to the guys ahead (in the cycle lane) ... loudly, but politely ... I am also losing some rubber on my rear wheel with the J-walkers between the cars ... twice this week had to make emergency stops as people appear in my path as they move between the queued (slow-moving) vehicles ...
  20. .... a HRM chest strap can double-up as a belt ..... if it has too. Forgot to pack my @#$@!! belt again commuting to the office this morning....
  21. Broke a nipple on the rear wheel whilst commuting home late yesterday afternoon, riding through some debris .. What a mess trying to replace a single nipple on a wheel with yellow tape and slime at 8pm ….. got it all back together again within 45 minutes, but the work area took me another hour to clean up No easy way around it ..... but at least I had all the parts at hand to get the job done, and be back on the road again this morning.
  22. Ha ... I'm in the same boat .... got caught too this morning between Newlands and Cape town CBD. Clothes stacked all over the air-con in the office now. It worked before, dried it like that before I had to go home, ..... all-though today might be different, got drenched right through. As a consolation, it only matters for the first km, after that the body heats up anyway ... also, my commute is only 13k's ... Hope you get sorted.
  23. My commuter single speed. Initially had a lot of other ideas as to what I wanted to do but for practicality's sake had to stick to 2 brakes .... free-hub, sturdy pedals and handlebars that is comfortable Rides as steel should (Columbus SLX tubing) ... The 175 crank arms helps the 53 x 19 along. No major hills on the way to work
