  1. I would like to order a few items from Starbike in Germany which isn't available in SA. Starbike don't offer a courier service. DHL(Germany) is just the local postal service there, it enters normal international post once it leaves Germany. I’ve previously just endured the pain of micro-managing the process of moving the parcels through customs and SAPO with emails and calls. I want to avoid SAPO/Capemail/EMS completely. I’d like to test a forwarding service. Parcel delivery to your door. I know I forgo my vat/tax discount when I use a Forwarding Service. Which forwarding services have you used from Germany to SA? Was it easy enough? Was the courier cost worthwhile/feasible? .
  2. Try these 3 email addresses, and request local status of package. Rhulani.Mthembu@postoffice.co.za, Ndivhuho.Sikhala@postoffice.co.za, jimccustomerservices@postoffice.co.za These still worked 1st quarter 2019. If I understood correctly from when I queried before, DHL-de is contracted by the German government to perform postal service there. Once it leaves Germany it's handed over to our local postoffice /EMS service. Sadly the German online cycle shops like Starbike and Bike24 don't have the option to select "DHL Express". The DHL they refer too is their local postofice service. Once I get a response from our local postoffice/capemail facility, I usually arrange to collect at their counter in Epping (next to Grand West Casino), rather than wait for mail delivery. Take enough cash when collecting to pay custom duties/tax etc.
  3. Question to those who might have tried these products, was there any performance issues, and is the "Link" type much better than the regular type?: To be used with TRP Spyre Mechanical Disc brakes Jagwire Pro Brake Cable Kit Vs Jagwire Road Elite Link Brake set They are both stated as "Compressionless" .
  4. The acquisition of the Ferrari’s of cycling ie. top of the range Spez, Cannondale, Willier etc. all became possible once the industry started financing ….. suddenly you could have your R80K dream MTB at R2500 per month. Easier to sell at R2K per month than R70K once off? Imagine a bicycle market without financing ..... would look very different?

  6. yes, the USD/ZAR together with the additional 15% "regions/countries sales/local taxes" Zwift is charging for some, have now pushed it above R300/month for SA? ref: https://support.zwift.com/en_us/zwift-pricing-update-HygeG0ybH7
  7. It's the one. Looking forward to building it up as my new racer.
  8. I'm sitting with the same scenario. I will receive a modified classic frame back from David Mercer soon. It's a 2001 Cervelo Prodigy. It will need a respray or new colour . I've sprayed frames before, I'm a hobbyist painter (not professional). It is quite difficult to find something, as the classic steel frame tubes are thin in comparison with the new carbon frames, thus what looks good on the new does not necessary look good on our vintage frames. I search google "images" for "custom steel frame paint" etc.. Also have a look at "Zullo" bikes for ideas (https://www.zullo-bike.com/telai-per-bici-da-corsa/pantarei/)
  9. Nice! Are these rims tubeless or tubeless ready?
  10. Where can you order Columbus and Reynolds tubing from in SA? Or which European distributor do local frame builders order from?

  12. Agree with Jewbacca and Chris_ ito the swimming. Swimming is my worst discipline, and I’ve worked hard at it, but on my first tri nearly got myself into trouble. The swim ‘start’ is chaos. It’s a mad sprint into the water. It was only by the third or fourth tri that I realized I should let the guys go, and do my own swim. Ironically, I did my best swim ever by backing off completely at the start …. Triathlons are nerve-racking, and lots of preparation and gear, but as been said, it’s addictive, and becomes an obsession.
  13. I've hadn't had issues mounting a road tyre with tube onto a "narrow" (19mm) MTB rim, but I've had issues with trying to mount it tubeless (700x28) (Schwalbe Pro 1) onto that MTB rim. .
  14. Previously a Colnago was delivered .... Colnago personally delivered the bike to John Paul II at an official event at St Peter’s Basilica in August 1979. Apparently he gave it back later and requested a more comfortable bicycle?
  15. I can understand why its difficult selling at the moment ito COVID-19, no-one wants to spend at the moment, but there’s some other issues too. I’m building a new road bike, and generally use the classifieds for my parts. But now I’m stuck ito which parts to buy. 10 speed cranks are incompatible with 11 (4 vs 5 bolt), wheels is disc vs rims, and thru axle (qr adapter) vs QR, and 10sp freehub vs 11 speed freehub, etc. Shimano and Campagnolo standards have changed so much that you pretty much shoot yourself in the foot buying older components as you can’t upgrade one component at a time … it’s all or nothing, so best is to go with new and forgo the 10sp, rim-brake and non-boost(mtb) etc. bargains?
  16. I struggle to understand why they would have the movie available in the Australian iTunes store and not SA? I even tried to change stores, and you can, but the moment you elect to buy it, a msg appears stating its not available in SA. Maybe iTunes do not expect the same return on investment from SA customers to purchase the rights for distribution here?
  17. I have a frame going to him this week too for some modifications
  18. It's available on iTunes in the "Australian" iTunes movie store. Wonder if I can ask a buddy in Australia to buy it and "gift" it via itunes to me? I see iTunes have a "gift" option under the buy button, but I've never used it?
  19. Lots and lots of hours spent polishing on this bike, well done DJR. But it is not a painful job though, when you are working towards a goal, more a of meditation or introspection exercise .... Many years ago I built up a 57 Karmann Ghia .. spent hours and days polishing but never felt like a chore.
  20. Just received a 'whatsapp' (with no date) about a stabbing and bike taken from at the Steenberg circle this morning, but it's probably the above attack which happened on Saturday, .... with the msg being forwarded? I have not commuted since the start of lockdown, as our staff are all working from home. The frequency of attacks seems to be getting higher? Makes me anxious about getting on the bike again at 5:30am once the office opens up again.
  21. Well, we’ve been had for many years … with just a quick Gumtree search to compare the prices of motorcycles with MTB’s (https://www.gumtree.co.za/s-motorcycles-scooters/page-3/v1c9027p3?pr=,60000&ed=501,) The one has an engine, gearbox, and 100’s of precision parts, the other a derailleur that breaks if you lay the MTB down on the wrong side …… but you can nearly pick up a used 600cc for the price of a 2nd hand Pyga? It hasn’t made sense for a while …. somewhere someone is making a fortune?
  22. That is beautiful DJR. Love the art work. Minimalistic and inspired! That unique integrated seatpost-seatstay lug is called the "fastback" style I think? Circa 1982/3? Awesome awesome bike
  23. Agree completely. Our divorce started off amicably, but after one round of the lawyers it turned ugly. Next moment a movers truck showed up and took the entire contents of the house. Like James: Lyrics from "The Waterfall": "There's so much stuff in my life, No room for me to growOne day I'm going to break from my life, Due south down to Mexico, I'm going to burn down my house, It's the only way to let it go" This was the 2nd best thing to burning the house down. I went out and bought a new bed, a plate, knife, fork, cup, spoon and kettle. Was the best time ever. No stuffs. Wish it stayed that way .
  24. mmmm .. one of my favourites ... "Land rover - turning owners into mechanics since 1949"
