    Who remembers?

We spent many a day in the ‘kleilat gat’ but I remember one incident pretty clearly when one of our friends got hit above the eye with a piece that had a stone in it. Blood all over the place, ... we ran home (about 2km) with him leaving a trail of the red stuff as far as we went. By the time we got to his house he looked liked someone from a Zombie movie. Face and shirt soaked in blood!! We just rang the front-door bell, and then ‘maak-ed spore” … his mom was a large dutch woman, even when friendly she sounded scary …. Those were the days

  6. Anyone know whether we still need to park outside the gate at Silvermine Dam on top of Ou Kaapse weg, or are we allowed to drive into the reserve to the parking-lot now if we want to swim a few laps?
  7. Would love too ... but I would struggle with a 21km trail run now ... earlier the year when i completed the Peninsula marathon to qualify for the Comrades my fitness was much better .... But once my fitness is up again I'll definitely look at some ultra races again. I ran into Philip Boardman while on a morning jog in Kleinmond - he has been my motivation/hero since. He is 60+, but closer to 70 ... not sure ..... but what a legend! https://www.push2extreme.com/single-post/2014/05/10/Marathon-des-Sables-2014-a-journey-by-Philip-Boardman-runner-340 For now my next goal is to complete a full Ironman, and the Comrades 2021
  8. I've been obsessed with ultra running including "The Barkley Marathons" ( ) for 4 or 5 years now. Anything that pushes the human limits .... love this stuff !!! .. think I've watched every single video on the Barkley ... ... and anything else that includes the "ultra" in the title .....
  9. Yes, I saw video, was also concerned about it. I at most make 2 double espresso's with 2 cups froth milk at a time and have not experienced what he did yet.
  10. Got one of these this week - Delonghi Dedica EC685. Pleasantly surprised thus far. Bit concerned about the 1 year warranty, seems a bit short? But at 15bar pressure the espresso is awesome.
  11. Anyone know whether the Double Century 2020 race will still take place?

  14. Not taken today, but a while back .... thought I might share it here. In Biedouw Valley
  15. The first one is with the original fork, it sadly got damaged in a house-move The second one is with a replacement straight blade fork - I have in the meantime sourced an original fork but have not yet changed it. Goes without saying groupset and wheels are not original
  16. I bought a Prestige Peugeot Mirage 1987 - Infinity cr-mo - when I was 17 .... still have it. I still do races with it. It has a new groupset now, but I love it. These are excellent frames and on the lighter side of steel frames. Not selling mine
  17. Met my current partner late in life, we both other side of 50 now, been together 4 years. But yes, when I met her she’d never done open-water swimming, multi-day hikes(carrying your own backpack), or cycling, etc. But she’s fiercely competitive and suffers from ‘fomo’ easily. So, I sign us up, and after the initial resistance, she agrees regardless … we’ve had many tears while doing various challenges … … but although the tears roll she refuses to give up. Since then she’s joined me in doing triathlon’s, open water swims, mtb, road, even as partner in the Cape Torpedo swim/run …… sometimes protesting more than other times but sharing real suffering has done a lot for our relationship.
  18. Dario G.- Sunchyme ... something uplifting ..
  19. Found a nice example to compare too .... pretty much identical frame to this one https://steel-vintage.com/colnago-super-road-bike-classic-1970s-detail .. even down to cut-outs on BB next to clover too (or https://steel-vintage.com/colnago-mexico-road-bike-classic-1970s-detail)
  20. ok, thanks ... that emblem just didn't look like the traditional Colnago .... nice to know.
  21. Sorry guys ... just one last question on the frame. How do you know it's definitely a Colnago? I couldn't see the down-tube logo properly, the seat-stays have no emblem .... and the space between the back-wheel and the seat-tube is pretty large (unlike Colnago where it's difficult to fit a 28)? I own a few classic frames and only one Colnago (tecnos), thus not a connoisseur at all, just asking so I also know for future reference. thx
  22. My opinion .... .... if you aren't sure if it's a Colnago, ...or a Colner or Cornello? .. I would rather convert this one to a SS or similar, and spend your big bucks on something you know is definitely a Colnago, even if it's just for resale purposes ... the next guy might ask the same questions? .... just my two cents ....
  23. ... and the USD - ZAR is sitting above R17.00 again this week .... might become an expensive toy soon then?

  25. Agree with Swift, but I would attempt to find something similar to the geometry of the bike you intend to race with. Training on a MTB and racing on a TT or road bike is not as efficient ito muscle memory/use etc. when it comes to race day.
