  1. Big H, here something for you if your budget allows (you're an expat, so it should!!) From the webiste: "Calfee Dragonfly tandem weighs only 21.5 pounds, as shown. Our tandem frames, as light as the very lightest aluminum, titanium and carbon frames from our competitors, set a new standard for durability, power transmission and lateral stiffness. Where their 6.5 pound frames are weight restricted owing to frailty and flexibility, ours have no such constraint. Our core competency as a pioneering carbon frame builder, coupled with the inherent qualities of the carbon composite tubing, create the industry’s best tandem frame." He'll even make you one with titanium couplers, so you can fit the whole thing in boot of and Atos!
  2. Personally I have no need of any extra stiffness, but for those who do, apparently these work better than a thru-axle!
  3. Jeez Big H how old are you!? 90mm mortar hey? Only okes ever to use one of those were the Japs in WW2
  4. This might interest those of you (us) that spend a lot of our hard-earned cash in Leprechaunland http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/chain-reaction-cycles-behind-the-scenes-29496 [This topic was started today - I pulled a "mod" and merged it with the existing one! Happy Hubbing Hubbers....]
  5. My Taatass... then (FTM_1) and then (FTM_2) and now (FTM_3) .... hanging on my garage wall waiting for Planet-X/On-One to get the Titus supply chains up and running again so I can get a new rear triangle assembly after breaking the "light" (read matchstick) rails on it twice in 11 months! If you look really carefully on the 3rd pic you can see where it's cracked through where the derailleur hanger bolts on. Edit - sorry too stupid to get pic sequence correct, but I guess its kinda self-explanatory!!
  6. Hmmm... avoid dust hey Mr. Nature, yes there was lots of dust on day 1 last year, unfortunately it was very wet dust! Methinks November shall only exacerbate the "wet dust" problem....not? But.... I shall definitely not miss it, wet dust, or no wet dust
  7. If you're in Joburg speak to Colin Meyer at Morningside Cycles - he did it a few years ago.
  8. I've only ever used SRAM components, so not sure if Shimano would be different - doubt it - so this is for SRAM. Run the chain over the largest rear sprocket and the big blade without routing it through the derailleur. Add 1 link plus the quick link, i.e. 2 including the quick link, remove the remaining links and Robert's your mother's brother. Using the old chain lying next to the new one is also fine, and easier, considering that it was highly likely the correct length. Just note it will have stretched/elongated (need to choose my terminology here for fear of flames!) over time, so make sure you don't break it too short. One thing to note is that if you have a full suspension bike, this should be done with the suspension in the position where the greatest chain length will be required, i.e. normally fully compressed. You can either empty your rear shock and re-inflate afterwards, or if you're lazy just a a couple of links and then go by trial and error. If you're using the old chain to measure, this comment is superflous. Have fun
  9. As per other Hubbers, go to Kiwi @ planet-x.co.za. No import duties on frames to SA, VAT only. 15% if you buy an entire bike though, or 9.45% from the EU.
  10. Hey DirtBag When do entries open for 2011? I have read only good things about it (missed it on SS though ) and have great memories of Hogsback from time spent there whilst I was at school. Never on an MTB sadly, but I can only imagine how good it will be. I would imagine it would rival/be similar to the 3 Towers at Mankele, which is - for me at least - the current benchmark.
  11. Schweet!!! Now Dangle pull your zipper up before someone walks in and busts you
  12. my 2c Might be setting the record here, but I have 2 pairs of Mille's that I bought in 2003! Whilst they dont look so hot anymore and the seams are parting in places, the chamois is still pretty good and they still provide good comfort for 4 hour rides. That's impressive. They were the only Assos I ever bought as I have never been able to bring myself to spend R2k+ on bibs. Having said that nothing I have bought since - mainly Endura and Sugoi have lasted even close to as long. To slighly misquote the Merovingian in The Matrix Reloaded "its like wiping your arse with silk." Thanks for the thread, I think its just convinced me to spend the cash and buy Assos again. Just found the Uno's for EUR125 online in Germany, now just to find someone to bring them out!
  13. Flame on Jeez buddy, it didn't dawn on you that this is a public forum!? Not the brightest thing to be posting for the world to read methinks - can you spell blacklist and/or class action? Buy hey, whatever gives you wood... Flame off
  14. Methinks a nomination of Mr. Coetzee for COTD (see link for what I mean: My link) is perhaps in order. Perhaps even upgrade him to COTW for good measure.
  15. I reckon we should ask Juliaas if its going to happen. If he says yes, then it must be so...
  16. At the risk of being lambasted for asking the obvious - have you loosened the hose clamps on the syringes?
  17. Link to an article on the On-One Ti 29er for anyone who's as interested as I am in it from twentynineinches.com (not a porn site link!!): http://twentynineinches.com/2010/11/11/world-exclusive-on-one-report-2-ti-xc-29er/ Note to Kiwi - they mention expected retail at 799 Great British Ponde incl. UK VAT, so at our current "Strong Like Russia" (was) Ront, that's less than R9k for a titanium frame, which is unbelievable - no pressure
  18. Hey Kiwi Also... any news on when the Ti 29er LT, that's purportedly in the mix somewhere over on Mud Island, will be arriving/available on our shores? Any info on geometry and likely pricing available yet? I'm am thinking that would be a demon ride with a 120mm thru-axle REBA out front! Thanks
  19. Check out the latest update (1 Dec) posted on the Titus forum on MTBR - seems things are moving: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=670304 Most interesting bit is regarding the warranty obligations - seeing Planet-X bought them on aution, i.e in liquidation they have no legal obligation to take on the liabilities of the company - warrenty being just that... but it seems like they a plan of sorts... So maybe I can sleep a bit lighter - having sunk a fair wad of cash just over 12 months ago on a Ti FTM!
