  1. I always keep my OS and data on separate drives for this very reason. Gives me the option for a fresh install without having to move the data before doing that.
  2. Can only imagine what will happen when mud gets into those small bearings. Great idea, but lots of precision required in manufacturing. Which equates to very expensive.
  3. I prefer the priority brake on my dominant hand. For cycles it is rear brake on right hand in my case, and for bikes front brake. I ride my bike 3 times or more a week, and I never have any issues.
  4. Not all of it according to news articles that surfaced this week. https://www.dailymaverick.co.za/article/2020-11-25-taxing-times-adobe-flashs-demise-gives-sa-revenue-service-a-big-efiling-headache/
  5. I see that SARS might have to plan on redoing their website. They are currently using Adobe Flash, and that has been discontinued. That will be a big rewrite as Flash is proprietary web tech which is very much different to current tech stacks such as Angular, React or Vue. The benefit once done is that we would not have to download or update Adobe Flash every year before filing our taxes.
  6. BTW, Elite Dangerous is free from yesterday on Epic Game Store for a week. Must say I really enjoy playing ED. I love the fact that you can do anything you feel like when you log on, even if the game is a bit grindy.
  7. Yes, I will probably be waiting for the 3080 Ti, which I think will have 20GB of GDDR6x memory. But then again, I only play Elite Dangerous and World Of Tanks. None of these high profile FPS games. My 54 year old eyes can't take the punishment from those games anymore.
  8. Skollie I am stuck though since I have a G-Sync monitor, so I basically am locked into NVidia. And the prices for video cards in SA is ridiculous at the moment. If he can wait, wait. Or just get an old 9 or 10 series card just to get the PC working while he wait for the madness to settle. Even the 1060Ti was not a bad card just to get along. You should be able to get those second hand for around R1000 - R1500.
  9. See if you can find a second-hand 1080Ti. Any of the 20 series cards are not worth it as they were horribly overpriced for what they offered.
  10. I am starting to suspect that maybe this was a targeted attack. Why would they crash into the rider only to take the smashed bike? I suspect ulterior motives by the perps. Maybe friends of someone with a CC shop? Heal up and don't let the bastards grind you down. EDIT: I hope they find them, and then you can add a charge of attempted murder on them. Things could have gone south badly if they hit you wrong.
  11. I am seeing this same trainsmash happening in closely related family. I also warned my wife many years ago that this would happen and that she would need to have a chat with her sister. Father treated his one son like dirt and the other the complete opposite way. One could never do anything right, the other nothing wrong. This was many years ago when they were still under 6 years old. The one is now a druggie, and the other one a very responsible young man. Parents should never underestimate the influence thay have on their children's future.
  12. After this my son is asking me how much to insure his Cannondales. His SuperSix roady is quite old and probably not worth it. His Scalpel Si is worth a bit more.
  13. I am running at 1440P and the 1080Ti is more than good enough for that when I play Elite Dangerous or World Of Tanks.
  14. Yes. Talking of Tech Jesus, my Gamers Nexus mouse pad arrived in the CT post office hub yesterday. Hopefully I will have it before Christmas. BTW, I saw his DH run bitching and moaning about people bitching and moaning.
  15. I have never understood fanboyism. But then I am very old skool. We buy whatever gives the best price to performance. Fanboyism must be a Millenial thing. I can understand the price difference between the 6900XT and the 3090 though. The 3090 has 8GB more memory and it is the better more expensive memory. If it is $500 worth, I don't know. And here is the thing; the 3090 was never targeted for gamers. I have no clue why gamers will want to buy a 3090. If they want better than 3080 performance then the 6900XT would be a better buy. On the other hand, if you really want team green, I would wait for the 3080Ti, which will have 12 or 24GB of GDDR6x memory.
  16. I have a G-Sync monitor, so I have to stay with team green. But it will be a long while before I replace my ASUS ROG Strix 1080Ti. But I will probably get a 6800 for my daughter's PC. Whenever the prices get's to acceptable levels in SA.
  17. The AMD GPU release announcement from Lisa Su was last night.
  18. Staying away from Tech YT sites today. Way too many fanboyz having a fight.
  19. Would you have laughed about it if it was a man that did it? Don't think so. Men are easy to forgive women for indiscressions.
  20. Don't get your hopes up too much. This industry is driven by FUD.
  21. So you pay over 20K for a phone and you don't even get a headphone and charger?
  22. That statement is not entirely true. You only need a good credit rating.
  23. Nope, I know when I am beaten.
  24. Yes. The BMWs of the cycling world. They make it so hard to work on them for no reason at all. Think I will just leave this with Rockhopper Adventures. Just now I lose my cool and hit the frame with a hammer.
  25. I tried shoving the new cable housing through, but it gets stuck about 90% through. OK, so I did not remove the frame guides. Removed the screws though. I did look at a way to remove those guides, but yes, I can see that this part of the job might be a challenge. I looked for ways to get something in there to dislodge those guides, but so far had no luck. And I did not want to force the issue and break them.
