  1. My front one is FT from now on. Basically the same method BigH uses.
  2. I'm also using Tektros, Tektro Dracos to be exact and my braking has always been excellent, even with the stock 160mm rotors, I have now fitted a 203mm Hope Floating rotor to the front, now the brakes are pure evil! It even ripped my stock skewers right out of the dropouts. (New skewers solved that though.)
  3. Thanks again guys, I will invest in a good set of skewers as soon as the bank balance recovers.
  4. I also have these mental images of a cyclist, skewered on his own seat post.
  5. Shame! Where abouts did the incident happen? I also did that route. Did you have to walk it out?
  6. Holy smokes! Are you okay?
  7. I did some window shopping and I see most skewers are either/or Aluminium and Open ended ones.
  8. Thanks again for the solid advice. I do have exposed skewers. As for rding like in my avatar, nope, thats just a cool pic snatched of the web. Mostly cross country and some medium trials. I will have a look at the skewer, but I fear it needs replacement with a better unit.
  9. YES! I think mine is wrong, I have the skewer arm on the opposite side of the disc. Will try that and report back. Thanks Philip!
  10. I reckon the brake-force will move the wheel down, no? The disc is moving anti clock-wise, with the caliper on the 3 o-clock position where force is being pushed up, when the brake is applied, the force will pivot causing the skewer to be forced down. So you think the skewers are to blame? Mmm, been wanting a set of Momsen skewers...
  11. I've been having this annoying re-occurrence of late. when ever I brake hard, the skewer on the front wheel tends to slip from its original position. Not enough to slip out of the drop out, but enough to pull the wheel skew. This happened with my Tektro Rotors and even more so with the Hope rotors. Is there anything I can do about this(except for going through-axle). Is there a sort of QR clamp to stop the skewer from doing this? Thanks Wedge
  12. So on friday I went to register for the Herald race at the Boardwalk Casino. On my way back just past Barneys I noticed what looked like a Red Specialized Epic with Red Rocket Rons being ridden by a very suspect looking caracter in dirty blue overalls. He was on the other side of the road heading away from the registration area. Now I dont want to be judgemental, but the Red Rocket Rons was a dead giveaway.
  13. Well whether they work or not, 29ers are damn hot and if I could afford one, I'd most definitely own one.
  14. Warped Disc Maybe?

    Hub Issues

So I gave my bike a good clean and lube last night in preparation for Saturdays MTB challenge. I noticed some vibration from my rear hub. Should I be worried? I plan on taking the hub to be serviced just after the race, but would I be able to complete the race with the hub or should I rather not take the chance? Using Weinmann Taurus Wheels and Hubs Thanks
  16. Brilliant! Thanks SirK! Defintely going to try this at a later stage.
  17. That is exactly what I'm planning to do! Just a little different. Thanks for the pic!
  18. Thank you for the advice, I was thinking of raising it a bit so that the fork does not "touch" the square tubing. I want the fork to rest on the skewer, not the tubing. I just need to get it done before this weekends Herald, I dont want to drive 130kms with the bike lying flat.
  19. So I hate having to chuck my bike on the back of the bakkie, it just leads to scratches on the bike and the bakkie load bin. I made a few sketches on Sketch-up: http://photostand.co.za/images/4584og2mghjwuplubwl.jpg http://photostand.co.za/images/367sowy5owp3o2jtkxn4.jpg I have the Material already, just a piece of Aluminium Square tube, 2 Skewers and two short pieces of 15mm diameter aluminium tubing. The 15mm tubing will be riveted to the square tubing and the skewers will go through the tubing. As for mounting, the Bantam has two holes at the rear of the loadbin, the rack will be bolted to these holes. I hope that somebody that also needs a cheap bike rack for their bakkie will find this helpful. The complete project cost me less than R200, and I'm sure that if you have some spares lying around that it can be even cheaper. Will post pics of the real deal as soon as I can find time to assemble it.
  20. Where's the facepalm smiley? Thats less than what I paid for my wellgos. Thanks for the info though, I might as well get a set at that price.
  21. I speak under correction, but I think its in Marine Drive right in front of the Board Walk Casino, across the road from Barneys.
  22. Unfortunately I could only afford a set of Wellgo M919s http://www.wellgo.com.tw/p-image/WAM-M919.jpg Would love eggbeaters
  23. So I got my new clipless pedals last night. Excitedly, I started undoing the the right cranks pedal with great success. Refitted the Cleat pedal, easy job. On to the left side, LOL, I start loosening the pedal, but there is one catch, the pedal doesn't loosen, in fact, it feels like I'm tightening it even more. After a short stint on Google, I realized that in fact, bicycle pedal thread is left/right-directional. Man did I feel like a chop. So for any other noobs out there, remember, on the left, you have to turn it clockwise to get it loose. //Brainfart over
  24. I would also like to thank Wayne Pheiffer Cycles for always going out of their way to help me out. Thank you guys, keep up the good work!
  25. Thank you again Drongo, I loosened the caliper, pulled the brakes and re-tightened them. Hey presto, no more rubbing and squeaking. Drongo for president!
