  1. Yesterday was my first time on the spruit, most of the guys where friendly, even saw an unknown biker hand another a tube and pump that was stuck with a flat. Only had one group of riders that appeared to be a little rude, but you get those everywhere I guess.
  2. This be my new one Merida Big Nine XT Only thing bothering me now are those blue hubs, will change them when the budget allows it
  3. The floating bridge at Heia Safari
  4. Shimano is for fishing I had X7 on my bike before and I loved it, upgraded to X0 recently and while there is a difference, I dont think a rider at my level would even notice the difference between X7/9/0 (except for the amount of carbon fiber though )
  5. Thanks so much man
  6. Hey Hubbers So far I have been blissfully drifting about in the cycling world with little to no skills on how to replace parts or even what I need where parts are needed. Earlier this evening I purchased a new frame, one I've been wanting for a very long time. The crappy part is that it didn't come with a headset and the headset from my previous frame seems way too big and is press fitted into the frame anyhow. The frame in question is a Specialized Stumpjumper M5(2008) Does anyone know what headset it uses and where I can purchase one? Cheers Wedge
  7. Yoh, some crazy beautiful bikes in here This is my labour of love budget-ish bike
  8. I'm rather new to the MTBing side of cycling, I started in January of this year. When I started I tipped the scales at 65kg. After three months in the saddle I've lost a fair amount of weight, I weigh 60kg now and on longer rides it feels like I'm running out of energy too fast, getting really hungry. I had a look at supplements, but its such an explosion of light and colours, I have no idea what to get. Can any of you recommend some supplements that I should consider - or - should I just stay away from supplements in the first place. Regards Ruan
  9. Last night on our trip out. A friend and I almost got hurt really badly. Our ride went along Kragga Kamma Road towards Seaview. Now for those of you who are not familiar with PE, its a section of road going out of town that's fairly quiet. As a bonus it has a 3m piece of gravel next to the road for the MTB'ers to utilize. Anyway, we we're cycling on this gravel shoulder when about 50m in front of us a Lady on her cellphone, heading towards us did not see that the road makes a fair bend to the right. Within a split second her two passenger side wheels where on the gravel. She then violently yanked the car to the right shooting over to the other lane just missing us by a few meters. In this process she almost eliminated a Golf 4 travelling in the same direction as us. I'm sure if it wasn't a newer BMW with all its traction control devices we would have been in a lot of trouble. She promptly stopped on the side of the road. We wanted to head back and ask her WTH she was thinking, but the driver of the Golf 4 beat us to it. He made a u-turn, California Highway Patrol style, and was giving her hell by the time we got there, so we just left her be. It was quite an unnerving experience, I think I'll stick to single track from now on... So be careful on the roads guys, it can happen so quickly.
  10. Hi, I was in the same predicament as you. I also had a bike that I wanted to upgrade. But at the end of the day, its not worth it. From the pic I can see that there are no mounts for disc brakes, so you'll need a new fork to some discs, but you'll only be able to use discs up front. Then you'll want to upgrade that drive-train to a 9spd setup. Lastly it would be good to upgrade the wheels, you need to if you want to run discs anyway. So if you've been doing sums, you would notice that it would be too costly. Even after all the upgrades, you'd still be stuck with a heavy frame. Just sell it, work out a reasonable budget and pick something in the Classifieds that already has the components you want. I dont want to sound like a negative nancy, but I've tried this in December and it didn't work out. I hope this helps. Cheers Wedge
  11. Those dérailleur wheels are insane!
  12. Well for starters, no "Rapid Skewer Ejection" under hard braking. Its not fun, trust me on that one.
  13. The Goose, but I'm biased.
  14. I was just wondering, can I get softer springs for my Suntour fork or is there some other way of making the fork a little more plush? I weigh 63kg and I find that I barely ever get the fork to even a third its travel and above that the fork is kinda rough and only really absorbs shock from big obstacles. My riding partner comes in at about 87kg and he gets the fork to travel all the way without being harsh. Any help would be appreciated, otherwise it looks like an air fork is the only way. Regards Ruan
  15. I also have experience with Duro, that stuff is evil!
  16. Thanks guys, I'll check on the soda blasting. I also stumbled upon a site where a guy used plastic beads to blast his bike. The problem is that I live in PE, I've heard that they roll up the tarred streets after 7pm at night, so finding someone that does soda blasting might be a challenge.
  17. I want to strip the paint off my current frame to have the paint job redone. Is it possible to sandblast a frame and if so, is it possible to have this done safely without compromising the structural integrity of the bike? I have worked with paint stripper in the past, but I would just like to see if there is an easier way to get the paint off. The frame at hand is a rather bulky 6061 Aluminium MTB frame. Thanks Ruan

    suntour shox

PM RodTi, he was giving a complete shock 2 days ago, maybe he still has it.
  19. My front one is FT from now on. Basically the same method BigH uses.
  20. I'm also using Tektros, Tektro Dracos to be exact and my braking has always been excellent, even with the stock 160mm rotors, I have now fitted a 203mm Hope Floating rotor to the front, now the brakes are pure evil! It even ripped my stock skewers right out of the dropouts. (New skewers solved that though.)
  21. Thanks again guys, I will invest in a good set of skewers as soon as the bank balance recovers.
  22. I also have these mental images of a cyclist, skewered on his own seat post.
  23. Shame! Where abouts did the incident happen? I also did that route. Did you have to walk it out?
  24. Holy smokes! Are you okay?
  25. I did some window shopping and I see most skewers are either/or Aluminium and Open ended ones.
