  1. 100% , in my personal experience I have spent way more on 'in app purchases' vs the old upfront model specifically on games. If the app is addictive people will buy "stuff" once immersed in it.
  2. That too or in app purchases like how many of the successful games do it now, look at Plants vs Zombies 2 for example.. Make entering the competition an in app purchase for those who want to enter it. I would probably enter it under such a model as I would have had a feel for the app and seen that there is a large user community and is actually quite fun. It's really hard to get people to part with the cash upfront, look at Strava, people laughed at the R50 p/m subscription for pro in the beginning but I know many people which are now pro subscribers after first using the app for a year or so for free.
  3. $24 for an app is outlandish ! All the information in the app is already publicly available, take a leaf from successful app's that follow a freemium model like Strava. You won't be getting $24 out of me for an this app unfortunately and I doubt you will achieve critical mass at this price. Rather make the app/info free and then charge if people want to enter the competition once they are enticed and are using the app. Just my 2c as an app developer..
  4. I believe they still manufactured / distributed by evolution who's offices are on Sandton Drive, about 500m down from Grayston intersection if you heading out of Sandton. Maybe pay them a visit if you can't get hold of them.
  5. Looks awesome bro ! well done

  9. Hi Guys, I want to build up a SS from a GT Karakoram 1.0 frame , this bike : http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/mountain-bikes/product/review-gt-karakoram-1-0-29er-11-40924/ Firstly is this possible with this frame and secondly is there somebody in JHB you can recommend that can help me get this built? Thanks
  10. I ride the phenom mostly, but there are times when on longer rides it hurts my bony arse. My other saddle is a Ritchey WCS marathon, I find it more comfortable on 5hrs + in the saddle. Ask your LBS for a test saddle or two..
  11. Once you switch to a bolt based clamp, use a torque wrench to torque it to the correct setting and you shouldn't have any issues.
  12. Yeah I just saw that in the news. Pity but I guess it was inevitable with that location.
  13. There are other routes around the dam and others which are a lot flatter, you don't have to head up into Mount Merrick and Woodbush areas. Take your bike along, you wont regret it. Magoebaskloof tourism has marked routes now: http://www.magoebasklooftourism.co.za/mountain-biking.php
  14. Agreed, quite surprised to see how many oaks have issues with them in this thread... I went for them over the AC race, seen a few of them buckle and ding
  15. Anybody used the Ritchey WCS -Z-Max evolution? http://bicicletta.myshopify.com/products/ritchey-wcs-evo-folding-tyre Opinions?
  16. Likewise no issues, had mine for 12 months, done Sani on them , even the Rocky Magalies monster. I am 86kg. Wheelset built with the Stans 330 hubs.
  17. Awesome race and area to ride in. Brother in law and sister live there so very familiar with the routes.
  18. Not sure if you guys have seen this or been posted yet; but received this email with attached petition. Please sign if you are a user of the Spruit and concerned about this problem. ----------------------------------- Dear Residents The Parkmore Community Association has initiated a petition calling on the City to remove the Squatters living along the banks of the Braamfontein Spruit. They are challenging all communities along the spruit to complete the attached petition and forward it to : manager@parkmore.org.za . This initiative needs all our support. You can also forward the completed petition form to Ian Tumiel of the Bryanston East Community Forum : ian@becf.co.za or to myself at: vearp@iafrica.com . I will then forward all the forms to Brian in Parkmore. Please take a few minutes to read the attachment and complete the petition form. Please also send it out to your neighbours and friends. 19. For once I am glad I am inured and missed this one; sounds like the route markings where a stuff up.... again. Last one riders did a range of distances 48-56km because of incorrect routing and certain participants in the 30km results where mixed in with the 50km riders.
  20. Also I believe the entries are opening up to the public this next Monday, on the site it says only adventure is sold out so maybe still space in trail and race... give it go
  21. Exactly; quite a few will go for sale due to injuries, sickness, commitments etc . Just train for it and then start monitoring the hub in the weeks building up. U will almost certainly get one
  22. Agree with you totally, what's the point of seeding then ? And the loose rock climb that everyone walked up was probably only rideable by 10% of the field. Maybe I speak for myself but that walk up there destroyed my legs. I don't think I will drive 1hr30 for that again.

  24. It is not necessarily Strava but the smart phone GPS unit, remember it does not function as accurately as your dedicated GPS units such as a Garmin. It also may be polling the phone GPS co-ordinate less frequently to improve battery life. Bottom line, dedicated GPS for best accuracy.
