  1. Couldn't agree more! nice selection of varying trails with amazing single track
  2. definitely, also ride a lot from Fratellis up around Emmerentia and back, never heard of / had any incidents.... You can also add in Alberts Farm to your route, but I wouldn't ride up there alone, go in a group there seems to be quite a few dodgy characters in that park.
  3. Good luck Swartpiet, keen to see your video! Have you ever ridden up the Magoebaskloof Woodbush trail? The jeep track that climbs to the top of the escarpment? I think that is about 800m ascent if I am not mistaken.
  4. That sounds like great news if the cable car gets online again. I know a car fell and that's why they closed it. There is a single track behind the high school (sports ground entrance), goes all the way up to the ridge and then you come down the same route. Not sure if its still open and groomed, haven't been up there in ages...
  5. Yeah the norm in SA is *** service!
  6. So my Thule 2 bike express carrier somehow bent and the metal where it connects on the tow bar was stripped. I took it in to the guys at Thule JHB where they first tried to tighten it up but when the owner arrived, he suggested this one had failed and only 1 in 10 000 or something fail. He gladly replaced mine with a brand new one no questions asked! The brand has lived up to the expectations that it has lifetime guarantee. Thanks Thule!
  7. Thx Swartpiet, always appreciate your reviews and Youtube footage
  8. From Fratelli up through Delta to Emmerentia it's 100's, track is nice and firm very little to no mud. On Byranston side, still very overgrown behind the new pick n pay but rideable, there are also quite a few guys that seem to live around there so ya same as usual.... You can also do the tracks on the other side of Beyers that you find just behind the Shell garage, but ride there in a group. Just my 2c
  9. Just checked the route profiles, yeah you right! not nearly as big an ascent as the "monster". Almost 300m higher good luck oaks!
  10. Also doing it, but only entered the 45km I believe the same climb is in the 45 too? Good luck everyone!
  11. there is also quite a bit of single track over Beyers Naude if you turn right at the bottom of the 9 hole golf course (Roosevelt Park), ride up the road all the way over past the shell garage and follow the track into the veld there, adds about 5km and brings you back to the main entrance at the Botanical gardens.
  12. It will be about 35-40km if you ride from Riverside in Bryanston, looping all the way through Emmerentia and the forest at the top. I've heard the grass is still overgrown in Bryanston and Hurlingham before Fratelli, from Fratelli its 100's you can loop around Delta park on your way up.
  13. sick! The camera work in that video is amazing
  14. True what you say, at least somebody could monitor your normal ride and see if you went off the planned route which would probably mean trouble...
  15. Surely the thieves will realize this soon enough and rip the lights off? As they do with anti-hijack and tracker devices in cars..
  16. I think the Spruit section from Fratelli's to Emmerentia is pretty safe, in all the rides there only had 1 dodgy character approach me and then I turned the other way .... When riding alone I never go through the Hurlingham section, from Republic to Fratelli's, It is so over grown and there are guys living in the bush there, it doesn't feel safe. Does anybody know when and where the last incidents on the Spruit where?
  17. Oh yes that's rite. Their weight definitely helps for those climbs! Saw your Morewood too awesome bike..
  18. yup that was me, what were u riding on?
  19. How was Kingkloof?
  20. Yeah I see what you mean now, did Teak on Saturday. 1 loop of the black 25km and 2 of the green. The black has some mad rocky climbs and descents which take it out of u!! Green was much faster and open.. Thx
  21. hmmm can we still enter online or at the race on Saturday?
  22. Cool I was a bit worried after a reading some of the negative posts about bike-jackings etc...
  23. thanks for the info!
  24. I would like to find out from the riders in JHB what you can recommend to do a distance of 50-60km? I have ridden a lot at Van Gaalens which is fantastic but looking for something closer for Saturday morning. Also the Spruit many times in the week so not looking to ride there. I have ridden Northern farms once only about 2 years back, but a search on these forums reveals there have been a number of hi-jackings and safety is a general concern? Is it safe to ride there on a Saturday morning and will I be able to loop 50km together? Also heard of teak place but never ridden there, are the trails long enough? thanks......
  25. What loop do you do and how far?
