  1. don't know the specs of all the bikes you listed and assume they are similar?? If this is the case I would go for the Scott as I like the brand. A consideration should also be the bike shop where you buy (unless all from the same spot) as you will be going back for services etc
  2. If you have lots of time to train, add in a few short runs a week and it will make you stronger. However, if time is an issue and you are training for a bike ride, ride your bike.
  3. Depends on which Racing Ralphs. Check out the Schwalbe website to see the differences. The tubeless ready versions are great, snakeskin even better. Depending on your rim, it is possible to get your standard Racing Ralphs to seal fairly easily, you will need a compressor and some patience though....
  4. Would be interesting to know what rims you have, that aside see the below: - Tyres, an age old debate. Depends on how & where you ride. For general marathon type riding you want a tyre for all conditions but must not be too heavy. I would go with either Ikons, Racing Ralph or Fast Track. I've tried them all and have settled on Fast Track Front & Rear - Maintenance, in a 29er tyre I initially put about 120ml of Stans then top up about a month later. Good to replace about every 3 to 4 months. Use valves with a removable core so you don't have to break the tyre/rim seal when topping up sealant. - Fixing flats, for punctures I use the strip plugs. I carry 2 sizes for big and small holes. Only required if the sealant does not do the job. Side wall cut, put a tube in until you get home.
  5. and this time I'm trying out the fatbike, best the Rabbit keeps up!
  6. Also there over Dec/Jan. We often arrange group rides from Hlalanathi, welcome to join us. It is HOT so rides are early
  7. Yes, excellent. Go see Chris at Allout Adventures
  8. Both parties to blame here, just let it go. Cancel your order with them then don't buy from them again if you are unhappy.
  9. I see the new Spez XC dropper post will be available at retailers next month. 27.2 to fit the 2014/2015 Epic's but is standard on the 2015 S-Works. Has a 35mm drop with a retail price of R5600. That's a lot of Ronders per mm drop....
  10. Not questioning your story but it appears you may not have spoken to the owner, Duane. Any service provider or retailer can have issues, it is how they resolve the issues that counts. In my experience Duane would not have let your issues go unresolved. I have been dealing with them since they opened and continue to do so. This type of complaint can be extremely damaging, I just hope you covered all reasonable options before posting it
  11. Sounds like he should have started in A batch. You did nothing wrong.
  12. eishhh, so you only drink beer on Sunday's??
  13. ha, ja not great for ave speed.... I do an upload from my Garmin which only shows time and heart rate. I'm more interested in tracking my training by time than distance
  14. I put all workouts/rides incl my IDT sessions on Strava, but make these private. Strava is a good training tool & a great way to track hours/km per week
  15. I met 4 chaps on the trail 4 years ago. 3 of us still ride together every week. Good mates now.
  16. I say chat to people, be friendly and you may well make some new friends, or possibly even meet your future wife/husband. Having said that, if your riding level/abilities/fitness is not aligned, you may end up either frustrating people or getting frustrated yourself
  17. pic of your 650B single?
  18. Sounds like you were not charged Duty. A bicycle parts purchase (Duty free) normally costs me around 16% on top of the listed price. This is made up of VAT and bank charges on my credit card.
  19. Duty on clothing is either 40% or 45% depending on the product and composition. To calculate VAT, uplift the invoice amount by 10%, add the Duty and X the total by 14%. Clearance fee should be around R25 per entry
  20. this is excellent! Hope it will be offered in various areas of SA
  21. When you travel abroad you are supposed to declare your 'equipment' before you leave the country. Bike, laptop, camera etc etc. If you don't, you can be forced to pay Duty on re-entering the country. There is a limit on gifts etc up to around R5000? where duty will not apply. Anything over this you should be taxed. Duty on assembled bikes is 15%. If you bring the frame in separately from wheels & bars etc (must arrive on separate vessel/aircraft), it is Duty free. This is a loophole SARS is looking at closing. If an item is dutiable and is not declared, you will have to pay the duty plus penalties. If you can show an invoice of 6 months or older (bike bought while you were in the foreign country), you can get a rebate Entry passed which means no Duty.
  22. I agree with Spez Camber. Go see the Standers at Concept Cyclery in Shelly beach
  23. Go to Mountain Splendour just down the road. Owned and run my multi sport athletes Iain and Sue Don-Wauchope. They have some great single track on their property but also take rides into the forests and surrounding areas. Young chap by the name of Sanele works there, he is a great rider and often takes the more advanced riders. Look them up.
