  1. 386th in 44:40 - flip that was tough! Great training for sure.
  2. Go after them, all in. There is no way anyone should get away with this. Use social media, private investigator, lawyer (new best friend) from the scene, basically any and all opportunity to make sure they pay for what they did. I say they, as it seems the father is now implicated. This could have turned out much worse, you guys are so very lucky that she is ok. Not so lucky for others who have lost family and friends out there on our chaotic roads. Please keep us updated.
  3. yes, agree that the woman's racing was exceptional this year. With Emily Batty having a great year and Yolanda Neff now on the same team, things may get even better in 2019. Although, we will have Alan H racing elites in 2019.....
  4. Great trail, start is at the brewery/airfield just down the main road from Champagne Sports. They have added more trails since I was there in July, so not sure how much you can get in. I suggest you go chat to Iain at Mountain Splendour, he can advise on routes in the Sappi land and some great riding up in the hills around Loskop. Try Dragon Peaks too, they have some awesome track on their property. When I need a big ride, I link Cathkin trails with Mountain Splendour, Sappi, Loskop area and Dragon Peak. You can get some proper distance in.
  5. I was just thinking that. C'mon Eddy, get up from in front of the TV
  6. Great point, no arguments here. I don't see that these changes will be made in the short term (note the CSA President was changed earlier in the year), so we have to make do with what we have got. That's my point, we have to move on now and make things work.
  7. As part of KZNMTB, I attended the CSA MTB Indaba last Saturday and was pleasantly surprised by how much positive work has been done by CSA over the past 10 months or so. For the record, I have been publicly critical of CSA in the past; on social media, to CSA officials in person and even in my KZNMTB address at our awards dinner last year. I openly criticized their structure, performance, poor communication, financial situation etc etc. Some Provinces have done a lot of work to ensure value is added to cycling, mostly without support from our national body at the time. Unfortunately, the damage done by CSA in the past will sit with people and many won't see, or don't want to see, any progress that is being made. I am not saying CSA has reversed the damage and has got everything right, but I am saying they are making some good progress and seem to be headed in the right direction. Most important, I believe their intentions are good. I now believe they can get it right in time, but they need the support of the provinces and race organizers to do so. Yes, some provinces need to be sorted out too, and this was raised at the Indaba. There are some new, capable people with good intentions involved in the provinces, let's hope they will have a positive impact.. Most of the criticism dished out on this thread stems from the damaged done by CSA in the past, and rightly so. But maybe it is worth considering that a turnaround could be in progress.
  8. I managed it in my golf without removing wheels. Rear seats folded down, front passenger seat moved forward and backrest tilted forward. Saw this on a You Tube review of the Gti (needless to say i bought it). A bit of a hack moving the seats like that, but at least your bike is safe inside the car. Make sure you have great tunes as no space in the car for anyone to chat to.......
  9. It is to 'encourage' race organizers to get their events sanctioned. CSA has been criticized in the past for not enforcing this rule, seems they are now taking action. Sanctioning of events provides some revenue for CSA and for the province. Without this revenue, very little can be done to support the sport. I am not trying to open debate about what CSA, or the provinces do with this revenue. KZN MTB race organizers have been particularly good at getting their events sanctioned, as such KZN Cycling does receive much needed revenue and is able to effectively support the sport in the province. Needless to say, KZN Cycling has great working relationships with local race organizers.
  10. They have a local team based in KZN, so no travel benefits
  11. SAIDS were testing at the Safire Baynesfield race in KZN yesterday, who would have thought?
  12. It is the AL7 29 for now as far as I am aware.
  13. What a pleasure it was to see Chris Snr supporting riders at just about every stage of the Epic this year. Such a familiar figure, so much part of the sport. Can't say I would feel the same seeing a CL representative doing the same thing, because it can never be the same. CWC - small guy, part of & growing with the sport. CL - big corporate attempting to show shareholder value through the sport. Despite this view, I do wish you and CL success.
  14. if the bike is too big and too heavy, she will most likely struggle on any route that isn't flat. If she struggles too much, chances are she will not want to ride much. I say invest in a bike that she will grow in to in the short term (6 months or so) and go as light as possible. I would look for a used race bike. Check out your local Spur Schools MTB league, tons of kids riding all sorts of bikes, many go up for sale towards the end of the season as parents upgrade. I would not go ladies specific geometry as I do not believe it makes much difference with kids, also will be more difficult to offload once she is done with it.
  15. Feeling a little ***...... I entered Tour de Krantz on Saturday but decided there is no way I am riding in cold, wet & muddy conditions. So I stayed in bed. Now I'm thinking what Jason would have done....... Our day to day concerns are nothing compared to what he must be going through. You have to get through this Jason! You have to ride again!
  16. I started with a used Raleigh spinning bike, found it uncomfortable and nothing like riding any type of bike. Moved to a Cycleops Fluid trainer with my MTB - no power, just resistance training. Found that significantly better and cost effective. Down side is wear on your bike rear tyre, so I set up a used rear wheel with a trainer tyre, This also turned out to be a bit of a hack as I had to keep changing wheels when I wanted to ride my bike outside. Next was a road bike on the Fluid, much better again, but still no power and to be honest, rather boring. A final move, hopefully, to the Cycleops Hammer with Zwift. It has been a revelation, you can use your bike so set up is spot on, you have power, HR, cadence and you have the other Zwift riders out there to battle with. So my advice, go as big as your budget allows.
  17. Go have a look at the Lapierre SAT 729. Fantastic bike
  18. Won't use anything with artificial colorants & flavorants, preservatives, additives etc. All we really need is the right carb mix and electrolytes; and real food for long rides/events.
  19. Fortunately for them Amy slotted right in. She is getting some great results and in my opinion is being a great ambassador for the sponsors and for the sport. She is open to chatting to the kids who ride, as we experienced at Epic and at SA champs in Bloem. Good one Amy!
  20. and she is offering athlete coaching.......
