  2. Geez, where do all you Santa Cruz chaps come from?? I rode a Tallboy 2 in the US last year and was very, very impressed. Confidence inspiring to say the least. Reasons I went for the Stage: - Patrick Morewood's passion and technical brilliance - 2 bottle cages on the frame - looks terrific - makes technically poor riders like me feel confident & fast - Locally designed. local is lekker - low weight for what it is - great specs for the price - SID fork, carbon rims - Not a mainstream bike - Great after sales back up What a bike!!

  4. if you are looking at those bikes, you have to consider the Pyga Stage. Ride one, you will end up buying it.
  5. eishh, tough one. If you have been trying to get in for 6 years, then you must know your way around a bike by now, so assume there is skill and some fitness. Day 1 is hard work, around 1500m climbing and 94km. It is proper mountain biking, not some easy highway to cruise along. Days 2 and 3 are shorter, but don't let that fool you, tough riding if you push. I say chill, enjoy the awesome views and trails, and make the most of the well stocked water tables. Look out for the soft serve ice cream (day 2 last year I think). Good luck!
  6. If riding an ebike gets someone out there on a bike, I say let it be. That person won't be challenging your KOM's and they wont be A batch riders. Chill out, the more people on bikes the better.

    Fat bikes

It depends on how much you are willing to spend and what type of riding you want to do on it. What I learned: - fatbikes are heavy, if you spend more you get a lighter setup - they are NOT comfortable if fully rigid - if you intend riding with your mates who are on normal bikes, get fitter - if you go proper fat (plus4" tyres) you may struggle with a bike rack - they are HUGE fun and give you a good workout - if tyre pressures are right, grip is fantastic I love my Specialized Fatboy, but it simply cannot replace a normal 29er. I say spend as much as you can and get a proper setup. Many top brands have them available.
  8. Rowland/Upshift is very good. I have used him for 3 set ups. Can recommend him, will be money well spent.
  9. Chuck Norris is Strava
  10. This is a great initiative. It is pitched perfectly to attract younger riders to the sport. It is challenging enough to make it exciting and competitive, yet not to tough technically for novice riders. Why then do so few girls take part? Same situation at the Durban events. We need to do more to get young girls racing or the future of competitive XCO is under threat.
  11. Have just added a Silverback (Syncra 1) to the family stable. Awesome looking bike, light and racy. German engineering.....
  12. my 7 year old, ave height, is on a 24" Momsen. Been riding it for a year and is now very comfortable on it. Started racing this year, he would not stand a chance on a 20"
  13. How did the race go on Sunday?? Surely the new ride gave you an advantage??
  14. Spur Schools series in Gauteng is very strong. 9yrs will race Nipper, 10yrs Sprog. Agree that you should concentrate on skills and XCO first. Train for fitness from around 12yrs to 13yrs. It has to be about fun and skills at first. My 10yr old daughter found XCO very tough at first but now loves it and is riding extremely well. Try to find that fine line between having fun and racing - not easy.
  15. good service, good product, good pricing, good guy - winning combination
  16. with gripshift you can move your hands around more, giving you more positions for those long days on the bike. Also, thumbs don't get sore from all the shifting.

  18. Newest addition to my stable. Note the 'Herb' garden on display. Came across this carefully hidden away in the mountains in the Central Berg. The new Stage is awesome, very at home in the mountains as it is on the long district roads.
