  1. Running a 32-16 in Pretoria, Rosemary hill etc all fine.
  2. Don't worry about that stuff, its good....so just get the bike with XX1.
  3. the question should be "who hasn't been caught"
  4. Hence the reason why the DH bikes are not 29er's...
  5. @doppeldanger Not as bad as I expected, my DS is very soft especially over rocks etc but with the rigid and bigger wheels are a bit of a harder ride but not nearly as bad as I expected it to be. I've added 2.4 tyres and 700mm carbon bars to ease the ride which made a huge difference. The bike is also much lighter and climbs like a "bergbok"
  6. @doppelganger That's exactly the same I've done, from 26er DS to 29er SS, rigid fork. My DS maintenance cost too much and I need a bit of HTFU....
  7. Just somethings that I heard and thought about. Comments and feedback will be appreciated. Lets say the normal travel on a 29er shock is 80mm or 100mm. If you sit neutrally on the bike, the shock should compress with about 10-20mm depending on how hard the shock is inflated leaving you with 60 or 90mm of travel for the trail. On a rigid niner fork, lets say you inflate 2.2 or 2.4 tubeless tyres to 1.8 bar, the tyre should absorb about 15mm of bumps, the carbon fork another 15mm and the 700mm carbon handlebars also about 10-20mm, if you put soft, thick grips on another 5mm, thus you are actually getting 55mm of travel on a rigid fork if configured correctly with the right components where as on a front shock, as described above, the difference is only about 15mm more travel. In theory and in practice, is this correct?
  8. I totally agree with Rouxtjie, I bought the EMD frame for SS, then added a Niner rigid, XX1 Crankset, ZTR ArchEx, FireEye tensioner, XT brakes and the rest is basically Ritchey. It look me a month or 2 but it's the exact SS bike I always wanted.
  9. Thanks for the real feedback GoLefty! That really explains a lot then. Perhaps I should keep them and buod them to another bike when the time comes, they seem to have more value on a bike than on the hub.
  10. Cannondale 29er Flash, perhaps a good condition 2nd hand one. You won't be sorry.
  11. Thanks guys. So what is your recommendation on them? Must I keep them for perhaps another bike later, or what is a decent price. I totally agree on the 3x9 which is a bit outdated for some of us, I'm riding 1x11 myself but thought that there might be some guys still wanting to upgrade their 3x9's. The gears are really light and in an awesome condition, I just wish I could use them...
  12. I'm riding with a SRAM groupset on my one mtb and shimano on the the other but on both the brake levers are seperate from the shifters. I bought a 2nd hand mtb which came with Shimano XTR Dual Control Hydraulic Brakes & Shifters and because I don't need them I've placed it in the classified section of theHub. My question is that personally I've never ridden with dual controls but why are there no interest in them, if I understand correctly they cost new around R5000/set, I've costed it for R1500 for the set and still no interest. Whats the story/issue/problem around them and why are they not popular? I've ridden with Danny Fowler once and he rides with dual controls, one of the best mtb'ers in the country?
  13. Try a local Cape Union Mart in your area first.
  14. We have a Trail entry and would like to swop it for the adventure. Will pay all admin fees. Are you interested. Please email me at jan@ncce.co.za
  15. I saw a few at HotSpot(Pretoria) the other day, really nice ladies bikes from Cannondale and everything else. Looks almost like kiddies bikes
  16. CDC finish time = Est Time of Departure + 6th team member Argus time x 2(inclusive of 10% buffer[argus 110km x 2 = 220km]) + 30 minutes stop + 5 minute portage Eg: CDC finish time = 06h00 + (03h30 x 2) + 0h30 + 0h05 CDC finish time = 06h00 + 07h00 + 0h35 CDC finish time = 13h35
  17. For detailed seeding results, race weights etc try www.pedalpower.org.za
  18. I've send them an email and the OFM results has been resolved. That was quick, well done racetec!
  19. I noticed that on racetec they indicated the OFM distance as 99km, which is last years distance and calculated the average speed accordingly. Shouldn't it be 107km?
  20. 94.7 MTB race is the worst MTB race I ever did, rather do something proper....
  21. Guys, anyone can get in if you really try. The best way is to start training, invest your entry fee(R10k) in an aggressive fund to earn interest(unlike the early birds) and about month before the sani you check out the hub for cancellations(there are plenty) and bobs your uncle, you will get an entry.
  22. On which channel is the time trails, it starts now?
  23. What about Allison Stokke? http://dalje.com/slike/slike_3/r1/g2009/m07/x221209337315832926_8.jpg
  24. Normally as the chain stretches it will cause friction on the casette which will cause the casette's grooves to chance accordingly. So if you change the chain on eg < 1000kms the casette would be fine but if you change the chain on 3000kms you'll probably need to change the casette as well. The same happened to me a year or so ago on my XX after 4000kms on the same casette and chain so I first replaced the chain and then realised that I have to change the casette as well.
