  1. Having a smoke while cycling, that's just awesome!!!!
  2. They should show the "difficulty factors" (0.8, 0.95, 1 & 1.3) for each race with your calculation.
  3. No rush, just keen on my seedings
  4. Hi I noticed that the PPA seeding didn't get calculated yet. Shouldn't it happen on the first Wednesday of every month? I'm waiting for my Ride 4 Sight to be added
  5. I'm keen, which hotel?
  6. Beer is good for you! The important thing to remember is to have beers the night before and even more beers after the race especially after the Argus you need to find the nearest beer tent and wait for your buddies to come in. The preferred approach will be if you can do the Argus in 3 hours and start at 6:30 and have a buddy or family member who can do the Argus in 6 hours and only start at 10am it's even better, this will allow you 6 and a half hours of quality beer tent time!

    Cycle buddy

I thought the same thing! Anyways, I use MotionX GPS on my iPhone 4 and it works like a charm!
  8. Hi Frosty Thanks for the reply, I started in EL and made my sub-3 easily with almost 15 mins.... What an awesome race, well organised, marshals were good, great route, had a breakaway at the end which actually worked, nice head wind at the end etc. GREAT STUFF AND WE'LL BE BACK NEXT YEAR!
  9. I threw my banana peel next to the road into a gutter this morning on my way out with the MTB, and a lady was pointing her finger at me??? What do you guys think? Should banana peels be kept or can it be thrown away next to the road...its biodegradable...
  10. Averaged the FastOne about 35kmh and the R4S at about 37kmh(weird but true, FastOne is not THAT fast), do you think the Carnival will be faster in order for me to do a sub 3, I would like a 2:45 on the Carnival though......
  11. Honestly, if you stay in the USA why not go for Cannodale which should be much cheaper there and will suite your budget. Anything from a CAAD10 to Super Six(depending on your budget) will do. They are absolutely great bikes. Both my MTB and Road bikes are Cannondales, even one of my buddies who is well known in road cycling sold his Dogma for a SuperSix. You can't go wrong! With the money you saved add perhaps Zipps or Easton wheels to the Cannondale, will make a huge difference!
  12. ITS NOT ABOUT THE BIKE, ITS ABOUT THE RIDER!!!! I almost did sub 3 in 1995 with a 11kg+ bike but check this out from www.cycletour.co.za, so we have no excuses! 1979 Captour requested WPPPA to move the date of the Tour to coincide with the Cape Town festival. Six months later, on 21 April, 1979 the second Argus Cycle Tour was staged, attracting nearly double the number of entrants, 999, with over 100 under the age of 15. 760 finished. Hans Degenaar won in 2:52:38. Janice Theis knocked nearly an hour off her time, winning the ladies section in 3:36:46.
  13. This is my thoughts exactly, hence the reason I wondered about it
  14. Is Boyes drive where the extra 5 km's comes from as well? Should add more than 3-5 minutes then I suppose.
  15. 5-10 minutes are doable I suppose but anything more than that will be too much to cut down.
  16. Hi Guys The last time I did the Argus was in 2002 where I just missed my sub 3 by a minute or two, I didn't cycle since then until 2010. Now I'm much fitter and I do better than I did then but apparently with Boyes Drive or something it's almost impossible to do a sub 3? I checked on racetec and thought that it was the 2009 & 2010 winds that caused the winners time to increase with almost 30 minutes :S Is this true and if so is it really THAT difficult to do a sub 3 now? Cheers, Jan
  17. Hope this isnt a repost already, but check this out.. This looks pretty radical. The HD stuff is spot on and even their ads for Saint stuff are badass and compelling. I cannot wait until this comes out.. Pre-Order for sure. The site can do more justice than I can. Be sure to check out the photos.. Sickeningly cool. http://www.lifecyclesfilm.com/ Worthy of mentioning in the same sentence as the Collective? I think it looks promising.
  18. I'm a MTBiker but decided to do the FastOne yesterday with my road bike for a change, some snobbish road biker came to me and asked me how can I wear this cycling jersey if I'm not riding on a Pinarello(The cycling jersey is not branded Pinarello though but more Rudy project etc etc etc)? I had a very good race time and probably beat them as well. WTF do they care, what does it matter to THEM and why is the dress code an issue to these snobbish road cyclist? They're all BMW drivers where cycling is the least important issue on hand but bike and clothing brands are much more important...regarding my previous post I'm not even going to do the effort to greet F$%^&* roadies anymore. They're all still cycling with the seatpost up their arses....
  19. Who do you think will win the Tour de France 2011 based on the new route with more climbs?
  20. Where's the photo's of babbas lodge? I saw a photographer there......
  21. In addition to Maryke, www.fittrack.co.za has worked wonders for me as well. It is extreme accurate in terms of the goals you select and there's a goal for every major race and every level of fitness. Maybe this should be a new discussion about fittrack and what people think of it.
  22. You can also join us in Pta if you want, it's less technical but a bit more speed and we are VERY patient due to various levels of riders. We do anything between 30 and 70km depending on the crowd and wait for everyone. Just PM me if you need more info.
  23. Hi Covie, bwhahahaha, it sounds just like me. I enjoy my non-light beers (a lot), I eat what i want and I have the odd smoke here and there(but the club doesn't know this though). You're absolutely right, there no problem with doing and eating the things you like just as long as you cancel it out with a lot of exercise. Do you want to go out for a beer tonight....hahaha!
  24. Perhaps try some longer training rides, the days you don't ride you can go and spin and up that to 2x spinning sessions everytime you spin with one day/week off. It worked like a charm for me. I normally take the club riders out from Tuesday-Friday every morning @ 5:30, main weekend club rides on Saturdays are much faster, sometimes averaging about 27km/h and a very chill MTBiking session with the family on Sundays, rest on Mondays. Everyday it rains etc I do 2x spinning sessions after each other at Virgin Active. You need actual kilometers on your legs for power etc and spinning for fat burning, heart rate etc
  25. I agree 100% with you, it's all up to the rider or most of it though. 12 years back I finished the Argus just under 3 hours with a Trek 1400(1995 model)racing bike without any mods and it weighted about 13-14kg's. Now I'm 30+, I've been training twice as hard and I think I'll miss my sub 3 hours 12 years later with a Cannondale Super 6 weighting way less than the Trek. Same road but different me and much more work to achieve sub 3. Put Andy Schleck on that old Trek 1400 of mine and he'll kick all our @rses. Put Carl Platt or any other MTB champ on a 26" or 29'er and they will still beat us. It's the same principle about golf, it all depend on the player, mental attitude, the time of day etc etc etc
