  1. Entry confirmed for the first one.
  2. +1 Never done it before. Lets see what happens
  3. Question for the comrades gurus. Which comrades program do you follow or do you just stick to what you know works for you? What do you recommend for a noob, should I get a coach or do I just follow a general program? Obviously my goal is to aim for a finish.
  4. Good luck to all our Comrades runners. Enjoy the day out.
  5. Thanks SeaBee Yes I used the freedoms. I'm on my second pair at the moment. The first version was a bit better I think. I love my freedoms, currently I can only compare them to the Kinvaras and the Peregrines. Kinvaras I will not buy again as they do not last. Peregrine are off road shoes and I also like them and have a more stable/solid feeling. My shoe booster is finished now and was thinking of trying either the Saucony Thriumph or the New balance 890.
  6. Thanks Stretch This wasnt nice/lekker at all, if comrades is anything like this ... i dont want to do it. I guess you cant always have a good day. 3 years ago I wasnt able to run 5km. So yes, hugh improvement and I am proud of finishing the event.
  7. My Lopkopdam race report: Walked 1km to the start from my accomodation which was great. Started running and soon realized that I am not feeling good however I cannot pinpoint what the hel is bugging me. Had to made a forced pitstip at about 8km in. From there it was a monster sufferfest. I never expected the run walk to start so soon, but it is what it is and at this point I was trying everything so that I will make it to the finish. The saddest part for me was when I wasn’t able to run all the downhills and I love downs. I walked about all of the last 5km due to nausea and vomiting. I finished 6:08 and when straight to the medical tent. Today I am still in bed, clearly a tummy bug of some sort.
  8. I am on 519km YTD. Saturday I am doing Loskopdam and that will be my last race before winter. Loskop is my first ultra and to be honest I don't know if I have done enough. I'm nervous as hell! Plan is to just get to the finish.
  9. My calculator gives me the following feedback. Snail slow Tortoise slow Dam you are stubborn you should have stopped a long time ago
  10. I did the Om die dorp 21km in Irene on Saturday. Traffic was a breeze. To my suprize I felt good. I just kept telling myself to not push to hard and stay calm. Finished in 2:11:30 with a new PB. Improvement of over 5 minutes.
  11. But I have already decided yesterday to DO IT 2020
  12. My biggest week so far has been 60km. I am still planning to do loskop dam 50km this year. But I now have my answer, def not this year. If all goes well I will do comrades 2020.
  13. Thanks guys My qualifier was at kaapsehoop in november with a 4:27 and some secondes. Im not a quiter so if I decide to line up for C the only way I am stopping is when I get pulled by n cut-off or a medic. But after reading all the responses I think I should stick to 2020. Get stronger and more comfy. Thanks all.
  14. Comrades subs are starting today! I am split in two. Originally I said that I will attempt Comrades for the first time in 2020. And now I am bit confused as to if I should maybe give it a go this year or not. I have already run a marathon within qualifying time so that is not a problem. I know if I decide to give it a go my head will be strong enough. However... I am missing my bike rides and training so far for this year had not been what it should be. I am currently only on 248km running wise. I am worried about this comrades because it is an up run, I have only been running for the last 1.5 years and my head says my body is not yet conditioned enough for comrades. The last time I want to do is byte off too much too soon and kill the love for running What do you guys think?
  15. If you feel the need to part with your Om die dam entry.... you know where to find me... and maybe a comrades entry.
  16. Ok so I will confess. I am using vibrams onces a week when I run on the school soccer field. Reason for the vibrams. Back in the day when I was still running in Asics I contantly struggled with shin splits from the heel striking. I was forced to change my running style or quit running. The vibrams forces me onto the front part of my foot which got rid of the shin splints as the impact is different . Using the vibrams reminds me of staying on my toes. But this is me.
  17. This was number 3 The first was Vaal last year march.
  18. Sorry about your race Andrew. I started at what I believed was a easy pace with the idea to see how far I can get as the training was not enough and far from being consistant. Back in my mind I was thinking that if I feel too tired I will only do the 21km. As I got to the turn off, without thinking too much I took the 42km turn. From here I started to walk most of the uphills. I met Andrew’s wife somewhere about 25km and we kept each other company until about 3km to go. Those last two little hills took a lot out of me and was good character building. But, overall I am happy with my run and finished in 4:56.
  19. Hacc, How was your Jeppe half ?
  20. Did not see you last night. Only saw on Strava you were also there. You are flying!
  21. I have just entered for Loskopdam marathon. Lets hope I do not regret it. Training started last night.
  22. No I don't. We have enough hills where I stay. No need to go and enter a race to run some hills.
  23. I have also entered for the Jeppe 42km but will only do the 21km no reason why I should suffer for 42km. Training has been almost non existing this year.
