  1. Morning Morewood....this CT Mkt rider would have been one of the 4 boys (also only 18 years old) who did the 2nd lap with my son....so, thanks for pointing that out. They aren't all monsters....just some of them.
  2. Sis! Don't be ugly now. His post is clearly, "tongue-in-cheek".
  3. That outfit is a bit lame. Actually it's not a bit lame..........
  4. I'm not even remotely angry S.L.O.W...B.E.E ! Just for interest's sake tho, where on earth did you read that I ASKED WHAT IS WRONG WITH SECOND LAPS? Julle mense lees sommer goed wat nie eers daar is nie! Anyway, I have made a DIVINE rissotto for dinner....and I'm going to sit on my front stoep now and stare at the lights and fireworks at Sahara Park while I eat it! Lekker slaap xxx
  5. Fun...he's 18 years old! I am 46. I've done 11 Argus's and I didn't know the rule existed. But, you are right - ignorance is no excuse. That's probably why he hasn't offered any excuses. He actually said, "What the Hell!! I'll ride from $ again next year." He doesn't exactly struggle on a bike. He certainly didn't just "scrape into" $ either. It's not as if a no-result will affect his seeding or anything.
  6. Remember this part of the post Slowbee?
  7. If anyone cares to read my original post, the kids were simply UNAWARE of the rule. Riyadh, you seem to know a lot...about a lot of things. Were you aware of this rule? Bloody brilliant if you were. I went and Googled Cycle Tour rules and regulations AFTER the lady at RACETEC informed me as to why my son's result wasn't up. Right or wrong or indifferent....my question was, "How many of you are aware....?" He has accepted the consequence in a mature way. No arguments. Just disappointment.
  8. What? Like good ole South African laws? They apply to some, but not to the chosen few? It is NOT allowed!
  9. The boys IGNORANTLY broke a rule. Granted. But, pray tell Eistein, how did they "spoil it for the slower riders"? As it happens, the 4 boys who rode together the 2nd time replaced many a chain, fixed many a puncture and pushed many a fat old lady up the hills. They had FUN with the slower riders actually. The organisers would never have picked it up without computer technology...so no kudo's necessary to them. I was not looking for a whole lot of negativity. I was simply making people aware of what happened, so that, hopefully, it doesn't happen to them. Ignorantly. Geddit?
  10. LOADS of people do it twice for charity (for example). They are sponsored per km. I personally know of 11 from $ and half a dozen of VA's and VB's who did it. If I can name that many (not that I EVER would, I can only imagine 100's probably did do it twice. Anyway, quantity of double lappers wasn't the point.
  11. How many of you are aware that there is a rule that says "You may not ride The Argus route twice"? My son (and HUNDREDS of other cyclists) did exactly that! Some, like my son, did not remove their transponders before commencing their 2nd lap. He rode a 2hour 34 minute Argus (from $) and has been disqualified! A brilliant result for an 18 year old. And all for nothing! So, beware!
  12. I am a very experienced driver. And when I pull out of a R5500.00 service at Mc Carthy Motors, I DO NOT believe I should have to check ANYTHING I have just paid some blue-collar to service! Geddit. You EXPECT to get what you pay for. And I TOTALLY agree about the post-matric brain surgeons, having a gap-year, getting grease under their thumb-nails...treating the customers like half-wits. It's VERY bad for business.
  13. When I got there at about 2.30pm this arvy I was met with rather a foul stink....and there, in the basement area, was a HoneySucker siphoning some sheee-ite up off the floor. Looked and smelt like the lavatories above the area had imploded. I nearly choked on my free Mentos!
  14. And here I, the mother, sit listening for the front gate to open. It's a very quiet gate, but I can hear it from a mile away. Because my precious child is out there on his bike right now. Peace be with you Brett xxx
  15. There is a lot of pain on these faces. I believe it was over 40 degrees. I told my son to bail the race today and rather enjoy The Herald tomorrow. I think, for once in his life, he listened to me. There was too much negativity all-in-all from what I read here and on Facebook. The younger boys (brand new under 23's) should be having positive (even hard)experiences. Not all this nonsense.
  16. This may already have been brought up, so forgive me if I'm repeating old news. Someone was knocked off their bike this morning in Glencairn near Red Hill (I heard it on the traffic report at around 8.15am this morning). Can anyone shed any light on this? Is the person okay? Thanks
  17. These 4 boys were MACHINES. I KNEW the split must have happened on this section! Nice to see you today Ronelle xx
  18. I get HECTIQUE hotfoot and the Chinese spray saved my lefe on many a Double Century. Dunno what's in it, but it's BRILLIANT stuff. Not so cheap though.
  19. Very funny. It burns like Hell...was it lekker?
  20. Thanks guys. The guilty party ASSURES me that it's the frame. In Knysna I was on my way to buy a new seatpost at Kevin Evan's shop, when the brat insisted it was the frame that was bent....up until then I was under the impression it WAS the seatpost. Does anyone have a number for Johan Borman?
  21. Someone (bloody teenagers) borrowed my MTB without asking. He is way taller than me. Pulled the seat post right out (left the tiniest bit inside the frame). Had a crash which resulted in an almost non-visible 'bend' in the top of the "hole" where the seat-post inserts. I cannot pull the seat up or push it down. A stronger person has to manhandle it! It seems to slowly but surely be working its way down...to the extent where I now look like I'm riding a trick bike. Which kills my back. Please help. Can it be fixed? Or do I chuck an otherwise perfectly good bike? Can you recommend anywhere in Cape Town where I can take it? Thanks
  22. OH MY WORD. I CAN FEEL THE PAIN. @ RONELLE...IMAGINE ME ON THAT HILL ?
  23. It is a lotto team who are doing an exchange, so to speak, with the cyclelab womens team. If I am not mistaken the SA girls will ride over there during our winter, and thier girls will come and ride here during thier winter.
