  1. I think this post should be in the stasistics forum.
  2. Check your legs length. If one leg is longer than the other it will increase your pain while riding. I inserted spacers to my one cycling shoe and that made it possible for me to do an 8hour ride.
  3. If you can get the Pro Riders to mingle with the marshals it should be enough for most cycle fanatics.
  4. I guess i cant ride a mountain bike fairly well then. The bike for me was very tough and rather technical. Awsome event ,a must do bucket list type of event.
  5. Being Human is all about Choices Ether God created earth or it mistriously evolved over bilions of years. The latter is a theory that i cant understand so i choose to believe that God created it. SO from the point where i believe that God exist i choose that either God created people to Love them or to use them as servants. I choose to beleive that he loves us. So if you believe in God you have to find a way to be in right standing with him .You either choose a religion with rules that say if you do all this you will be in right standing or you choose to accept Jesus who say that you cant keep all the laws so he paid a price so that you can be in rightstanding. I choose Jesus-much easier and i am lazy. When you choose Jesus and he promise you eternal life you either choose to obey his word and receive the blessings with that or you choose that eternal life is enough and you dont need to follow his rules. Youl still be saved but you will suffer the consequences ,however thats your choice. Just dont go and Blame God if you do not keep the rules and then find something is not working out.
  6. What is your resting Heart Rate doing? If you train with flu you will do your self a lot of harm. It sounds that you already did. Your symtoms of being weak in the climbs and high heart rate is exactly the same as what i experianced after training with flu. I actualy damaged my heart muscle and it took more than 4 months of very low activity to recover. No race is worth it. I tried it for ironman. The program you are proposing will send you straight into overtraining three weeks before the event. BAd idea. The best you can do right now is to take two weeks off recover completely and lower your expectation of the DC. Burn out will cost you months of no training and guarenteed weight gain.

If you can choose would you take a calm sea and heavy wind or a Stormy sea with no wind? I know you cant choose was just wondering what to hope for. Then again as long as we dreaming take a calm sea with no wind and overcast conditions......as if that will ever happen.

I have got a finisher Certificate to proof you wrong with a 3h48 Half Marathon run (crawl) time

Your first assumtion is correct. What you win in the swim you can add to the bike and what you win in the bike and swim you can add to the run before final cut off. Eg the only critical cutt off is the swim and the final cutt off per wave. Dont worry there is plenty of time to make the cut off and plenty of time to "enjoy" the race.

Last Year they only had 2400 entries. This year there os 3000 spots. so with only 200 spots left they are 400 more than last year already with late entries to come. It sells because its well organized, has a great vibe and some prestige when you completed it. The entry cost is anyway a fraction of your full cost to do this thing.
  11. Wow...8 water tables per loop (effectively 16 for the race). You guys have taken last years problems seriuosly. Well done as your venue is realy great. How many water tables on the bike route ? Is the bike route the same?
  12. 11global <admin@11global.com> the orginizers Super nice must do race and claimed to be the toughest triathlon in Africa. High value for money Very nice goody bag. The water will most likely be to hot for wetsuit(like last year) and expect tempratures out there on the road far above the 30 degr(38 degr last year) mark. However this is one of the best orginized triathlons in SA with plenty of support and drink. The road is not closed for the cycle but the traffic is well controlled. The cycle last year was a tad more than 40 km. The run is through the sun city golf course and is spectacular but tough. Look at their website as they usaly have special rates for triathletes for the weekend and that makes for a lekker vibe in the cabannas hotel.
  13. Warning: This sport is addictive. You start out with an innocent BSG. You end up dedicating your life to Iron Man. No matter your athletic abillity...Be warned.. The bike at Roodeplaat is easy and fairly flat. Little hill about 17km. Also the route is less than 20 km. About 19,2km. Should be one of your best times in a BSG. Vanderbyl is the only one that is easier. Wish i could join you guys on Sunday.
  14. Does anyone have any experiance with coxflam in stead of cataflam. Doc said its ok to take it before hard session??
  15. Obviously the transaction had two sides and 12 pages worth of debating. The real problem however is in the title of the tread. That is malicious towards another Hubber. If this is suppose to be a comunity that cares enough to respect dibs then buyer should have first try to resolve the matter with seller before resorting to badmouthing behavior which obviously had two (12 pages worth of )sides.
  16. Jonnow you can also enter a team for 70.3 but you will regret because you can do it alone, hell if i can do it then anybody can do it. There is realy not much to it to finish in 8h30. You can actualy walk the whole 21 km and still finish in time. Differant story if you want to race it say below 6 hours. The vibe is absolutely fantastic and that is why it sells out even though its radiculously expensive.
  17. Hi Jonnow Best place to do open water swim is Heia Safari They got a nice clean dam and there are usaly quite a few people swimming. Half Iron is 5 months away. Plenty of time to train. If you can do a BSG in 1 H 30 you will easily do 70.3. Remember that a wetsuit is a must for 70.3 and you will not be permitted to swim without it if the water is below 14 degrees like this year. Swim the BSG with it because you need to get used to it and it also gives you transition training for 70.3. Prestige a very nice introductory to the half distance as this course is easy compared to East london and you should be able to do it even when not 100% ready. Just dont race it to hard if you plan to do 70.3 If you want to do 70.3 you should enter now as this race is usualy sold out come November.
  18. I Think this was one of the best orginized races in Triathlon in SA. Well worth paying the extra money.
  19. I did both the Midmar race and the so called profiteering 5150 The midmar race i couldnt finish because i need lots of water and there were no water. Stopped with 10 km to go severely dehydrited. The weekend cost me about R 4 000 including transport and accomodations. I would have gladly paid R 300 more for a proper orginized race. Not only were the water a problem but the cycling got dangerous and many compettetors did three laps instead of four. This is not motivating when you do your fourth lap rather alone in the traffic. 5150 cost me R 800 i am a backmarker but there were enough water until the end ,enough to pour over me if i needed . The traffic control were done well and at no time was it unsafe or uncomfortable to race. To summarize at Bella Bella/Ironman/and Halve Iron i got value for my money and at other events not so much. Maybe the TSA should require a standard when they sanction a race like Sachets per athlete per degree celc or something then even there fee will be value for money
  20. Being larger you are more prone to dehydration wich will also make you feel hitting the wall. So i add rehidrate to every second bottle . Less than two hours no need for energy drink. Try fruit like banana and raisons instead.
  21. In Texas they believe somone from Oklahoma is a foreigner.....realy.
  22. Now lets see Ya'all. You form an opinion on America. Are you speaking on what you see in the media or have you ever actualy been in the country. Please do tell.
  23. Here is some more science. Insuline resistance makes your body take insuline that is supposed to be used as energy and store it as fat. For this you need medicine called Metformin. Without it the more insuline you produce the fatter youl will get without having energy you need to train even with very low carbs intake. The solotion is not simply eat less train more. the solotion is eat right, train right ,take the correct medication and suppliments and do not be in a hurry. For people with IR weight loss is not a diet it is a way of life. You will have months with no results.
  24. Hi Ollie Three day fast will make me loose 3 kg no problem. But will gain it again within a week. Fasting is the worst thing you can do. No easy solotion.
  25. Most of what has been written above might be true for most normal riding individuals. However like me you are not normal. Normal overweight is like 10% overweight. You my friend like me are obese. I weihted in at 150 kg and come down to 108 kg in like three years. It is not just a matter of burning kilojoules. I have even done a few halve ironmans and still strugle to shed the weight. You need to be very patiant and get medical help. No diet or any amount of training alone will do it for you no matter what your skinny riding buddies might tell you. For them it might be 4 hours of training a week. for me i sometimes train 14 hours a week eat less than 7000 kj per day and still gain weight. So explain that... Over time and lots of time you will see results if you keep on going at it little by little.
