  1. Hi Guys and Girls, My name is Vincent and I was Lynette's cycling partner/ trainer for just on 6 years. I would like to share with you what actually happened on that sad day, the 28th of September 2012. I like to refer to Lynette as my "Wingman" as she was always by my side. Lynette came to me six years ago and asked wheth I could assist in her fight against 3 cansers... She was just into remission. Haveing lost my mother due to Brain cancer just before, I agreed and so our epic began. I trained Lynette, raced with her, suffered with her for 6 years..... I must tell you that she was the most dedicated cyclist I have ever come across. Lynette never missed a ride, never in all that time. About four months ago I was seconded to Mali. Lynette carried on with her programme, keeping me up to date daily on her progress. We entered the Oudtshoorn race and yes, my 8th one and Lynette's fourth. I travelled down form Mali to yet again race this fantastic race with my Wingman. The morning of the 28th of September we set out and started the race. On the Vergelegen road there where a few good descents. At a certain stage, Lynette who could descend, flew down this gravel road... Focused and with intent. She was on the right hand side of the road going down. There was another cyclist on the decent slightly to the front of her and around the centre of the road. I was approx. 30 meters behind Lynette watching her amazing decent not holding anything back. Then suddenly the other cyclist, who was doing his first cycle race, also travelling at high speed started moving downword and to the right getting closer and closer to Lynette. This was happening at a fast pace. He was not holding his line........ I shouted at him to hold his line but it was to late.... He collided with Lynette from the left. The impact was as I saw it with his hip into her stearing- bar and then taking out her front wheel. Both of Lynette and the other rider went down. It happen so fast, I can tell you that Lynette did not even know.... Her right hand which was on the righthand side bar was even crushed.. It never left the sidebar until after impact. The worst is yes, Lynette impacted the ground with her face.... no rocks, but the other cyclist was ontop of her during impact which greatly magnified the force.... I was horrified, devistated.... My emotions where high...... It was an accidnet... I just wish it never happened. We beat the Cancer hands down... But Lynette left us all in her greatest passion and freedom.... she was cycling... I will mis you forever my Wingman....
  2. Depending on tubeless or not - Tubeless @ 90 kg's I ride 2.0 back and 1.8 front- Never had any problems in any conditions Road Bike - 7.5 back and 6.5 front - Works for me.
  3. I have one - Excellent !!! No problems. Gives al data, virtual trainer, maps, can take a powertap, Traiing Center has all info on your ride, can link your route to google earth to see area as per foto's - See landskapes- I am very happy !!!
  4. Not comparing as you put it- Putting costs into perspective- These roadies complain too much- Thats why I recon we are in another class- But putting that aside- iF YOU WANT TO ENJOY WHAT YOU DO, MONEY DOES NOT MATTER...
  5. Cape Epic? Work ou those costs- not just entry- Pre race training and races in preperation, travel expences, drinks, gels, tyres, we are talking ANYTHING up to R45 000. Now- Were does the 94.7 entry leave you?
  6. Maxxis Cross Mark Tubeless UST Lust
  7. Lance will come back and make all eat their words... As he already did by winning 7 times, why not go for 8. He came second in a 100 mile MTB race in ther Rockies on 11 August losing to 6 times defending champion by 1 min 56 seconds. Face it guys- Lance is the one to beat, and I personally do not think there is currently a cyclist to beat him- GO LANCE, GO...
  8. The Boks are the worst- They are constantly playing badly, there has not been consistancy in their game since 1976 with the All Black Tour, and take the All Blacks- relatively consistant- The olimpic team on the other hand, perform poorly every four years, so THE BOKS WIN !!! (This one hands down)
  9. Hi Guys, Does anyeone out there have any Garmin Trails saved to possibly send to me for the George, Knysna area? I just got my Edge 705 and I want to go and play !!!Vincent2008-07-27 12:20:02
  10. Guys, Call me Mr. CRAMP. I USED TO CRAMP UP LIKE HELL- EVEN WITH MANY HOURS OF TRAINING. Last year while preparing for the Cape Epic, I raced the Diamondback. A 300 K/M MTB race in the mountains in the Cape. Day 1 I cramped again like usual. On completing day 1, I went to the medic's for a massage and told them about my cramps- They asked me "DID YOU TAKE YOUR RENNIES? Day 2 - First twitch - 2 Rennies- No more cramps. Day 3- First twitch - 2 Rennies- No more cramps. Epic - 4 days - 4 Rennies - No Cramps. Never Cramped again. 94.7 MTB 2006 - found a guy lying on the ground- cramping up totally- Gave him 2 Rennies- 3 minutes, he was back on the bike. A WEEK AGO - OUDTSHOORN MAXXIS (300 K/M MTB) - 3 Days - 2 Rennies used. No cramps. Guys, THIS WORKS !!!!!!!!
  11. O yes!!!!!! Ou Kaapse Weg , jy's myne !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YYEEEAAAAAAAAAA !!!
  12. On average the speed of the tour is down compared to previous years. Fatigue is much more evident in riders this year, seemingly more than previous years. Fatigue leads to crashes, which also seem to be more evident. The only inference I can make, and this is based on observations as stated, I recon many have possibly used something in the past, but have not used in this Tour. You opinion?
