  1. I know these are a bit more, but have a look here: http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-sports-bicycles-fitness-Morewood-Izimu-Down-Hill-Mountain-Bike-W0QQAdIdZ269963712 http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-sports-bicycles-fitness-Giant-DH-Team-Downhill-bike-W0QQAdIdZ278163874 http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-sports-bicycles-fitness-Mongoose-BlackDiamondDbl-DH-FR-W0QQAdIdZ298368569 http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-sports-bicycles-fitness-Giant-DH-team-downhill-bike-W0QQAdIdZ288455479http://capetown.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-sports-bicycles-fitness-Giant-DH-team-downhill-bike-W0QQAdIdZ288455479 The last Giant team is the owner of Woodstock Cycleworks' own ride - offer hom what you can afford, see what he says - he's a good guy and I know the bike would be well maintained. These are not new, but the parts would still be common, easy to find and would be trustworthy steeds that will last you for a good couple of seasons. Good luck!
  2. Offer Schwinn guy - R3500, then you can get the bike serviced - older bikes are unfortunately exactly that - older. Parts that were top of the range back then has seen 10 years or so - might need some TLC. And the parts are most probably not readily available anymore for standard maintenance on shocks, pivots etc. You might in fact get the same bomb-ability out of a decent new-ish 5" bike and for not a whole lot more money - plus you can pedal it up the hill. Sorry man, not trying to step on your DH glory dreams - just saying be careful! I have stepped in that thorn bush and can laugh about it now - back then it cost me money on top of money to keep everything in running order.
  3. that head angle is pretty intense...like a DJ bike, only steeper haha
  4. It's nasty, and not in the rapper's way of expression. It's like slightly upmarket british toys 'r us brand if I remember correctly - like the older Saracen bikes.
  5. Like so. Sorry Azonic.
  6. I am thinking that is a DDG slammer frame with a DNM fork...
  7. cool, please let us know BigBen!
  8. I ran Crossmarks front and rear for a while - but once you really start pushing your bike into corners, the front steps out faster than you can unclip... I don't mind the rear stepping out a little - gives you that 'flat-out, foot-out feeling'. Currently running Small block 8 rear and Wolverine front - good combination of speed on the flats, climbing in both wet and dry and railing singletrack corners.
  9. Well, Nukeproof had a headset especially for this BigBen, but it has since been discontinued. I stopped looking as I then fount the fork I need in a 1 1/8th steerer tube for an excellent price.
  10. stories like this makes me sick to my stomach...
  11. or this: Weight - 809g I assume without BB and bolts, but could be wrong...
  12. Weight with BB: ~960g (total set: BB, axle, arms, hardware) My vote!
  13. sorry for the mini hijack! Deffo the way to go - have a look at my jumpbike here: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/83680-post-ur-jumptrials-bikes/page__st__40__p__1207636__fromsearch__1#entry1207636 I have been riding those really hard on street, park and dirt and scratches are all wear they show. What bike setup are you running?
  14. I guess you are tunning gears for 4X? If it was SS - I would go BMX style cranks any day - just because they can take one hell of a beating. Been jumping Hollowbites (same pair) for around 3 years now - replaced BB and thats it. Otherwise - look at the Octane 1 mtb 4x cranks...but Saint will always be a top dog in MTB jump/freeride/4X!
  15. I think it will - but seeing as I'mlooking at getting something like a 150 - 180mm fork, it would not be much of a problem.
  16. and here is the tapered steerer in straigh 44mm headtube version - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=60615
  17. no worries - found what I was looking for - this is a great great great thing to know! http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=60616 GO NUKEPROOF!
  18. Like so - but with the external bearings top and bottom - http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/new-headset-allows-use-of-tapered-steerers-in-some-1-18in-head-tubes-25275/
  19. Hey guys, I am seeing loads of decent 1.5" steerer tube forks for sale or on special everywhere... Revelations, Totems, Lyrics etc There must be a way of running one of these on a standard 1,1/8 headtube (44mm). I am thinking something with external bearings top and bottom. Anyone try this? thanks
  20. true that...haha he sends this around though - so better to spot the fake one I suppose!
  21. This is the original add for the bike - http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:F-mAC2TAgrYJ:www.sickbikes.co.uk/2011/05/santa-cruz-carbon-nomad-2011-float-160-fit-rlc-kashima-5300-00/+Santa+Cruz+Carbon+Nomad,+2011+Float+160+FIT+RLC+Kashima&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=za&client=firefox-a&source=www.google.co.za

I mail him for ID and pictures - he sends them both immediately, nicely done - except on his ID he is 67 years old, and according to his mail he just relocated to Athens Greece for a new job and need to sell the bike for cash. A bit of a search showed the bike as advertised on a UK site in May - for 5500 pounds. The guy goes under the name Albert Benner. He stopped replying when I asked him for photos of himself with the bike. I attached photos of the bike and his ID. Beware of this guy! seems zero legit.
  23. Thanks Patches
