  1. I guess its a case of each to his/her own. I've seen and appreciate the handling improvement that wider bars can have on a twitchy frame and the confidence in cornering, high speed riding and tech terrain- that goes with more assertive steering. I ride 780mm Octane One Chemical bars - coming from 680mm Azonic Strip bar - and I'm not looking back...but every now and then there's the pinky / tree dilemma.
  2. Strife CF - I would.
  3. I'm in need of some new MTB shoes and so I stopped at a Specialized concept store - my mistake, didn't know the store went full Specialized as it used to be a normal bike shop that stocket other brands also. I walked in, spotted the shoe section and walked over there. Now this I could easily do by myself, but was approached by a sales assistant - fair enough it is their job, and so I said I just want a quick browse. She insited to assist me. OK, let's do it. I explain that I am in the market for something for general trail riding - not racing, and my budget is lower to mid level, so from zero to R1700 roughly. She looks at the wall of shoes and seem to consider what shoe would fit my needs. And then she hands me a shoe and says - this one is the right shoe for you, it is a good shoe, it is light and stiff and costs R3999. I look at her and think that maybe she did not hear the budget. I repeat the MAX R1700 budget and explanation, that I do not really race, this is recreational for me, and that the shoe needs to be comfy, hard wearing and basic, not a fifth of my bike's value. She looks at the wall again considering my options and hands me shoe number 2. This time it is not as nice as shoe number one, but great value and also pretty decent for what I need - and only R2799... I look at her with confusion in my eyes and repeat everything again - and that these are still too expensive. She now looks baffled and completely bewildered - a deer in headlights scenario. I take the situation into my own hands and point at the two shoes that actually semi fit into my budget and ask about them. I pick them up and hand them to her and ask if they have my size. She goes off and comes back with two wrong shoes - a shoe with laces - and the R2799 shoe again, and then one is at least one of the shoes I requested, but that's the wrong size. I end up frustrated and just say thank you for her efforts and leave. I made the mistake of walking into a specialized concept store without being wealthy enough it seems. I get back to Paarl, walk into a shop. I give the same explanation - and to my dismay they are also going full Specialized. The owned however shows me the shoes that fit in my price range and also shows me his Serfas that's being sold at half price. I happily rummage through the Serfas with is help until I find the right size and the price is rediculously good. I'm happy and say I'll take it. We check the box and unfortunatley the other shoe in that size is missing - nowhere to be found. As I sit pondering my luck, the owner walks off and brings me a pair of Specialized shoes and says that he will give them to me with a 20% discount to fit in my budget because he can not find the other Serfa. We find my size and I happily buy the shoes. I walk out a happy customer - not because of the discount, but because of a guy that listens and tries to help his customers. Customer service for the Win! Specialized concept stores - please take note.
  4. ****, that's a cool animation! I wouldn't mind a pair of those. Take my money.
  5. Nice! deffo a big step-up!
  6. What's the point of having all phones Rica'd - and supposedly no phone can work if it is not Rica'd right? How can no-one know who these guys are? Surely the phone companies that love to sell our information to third parties, can provide the police with the ID's to match numbers of scam artists...?!
  7. Makes me want to go ride! Lekke!
  8. Hey RG, In paarl there is also a couple of guys that will be able to help; try Peetrus at MRace. Worth a chat. Cheers
  9. today its Anberlin - Impossible.
  10. My new machine. no it isn't 29 or 27.5 Not that I have anything against those, but this 12kg, 5" travel, full XTR, Carbon machine is exactly what I wanted.
  11. I've been riding Teocali for the last 4 years and its a great bike! Climbs well, descends well and feels solid without feeling weighty. Not too heavy and not too expensive. I've upraded all parts and just havent needed to change the frame (didnt buy complete - bought the frame and built the bike from scratch from the go). Minimal pedal bob when climbing or just cruising without the need for locked out shock - even if you do have an RP23 on there. Sure its not a 30k bike, and there will be lighter bikes on the trail, but over the past 4 years I've raced it and ripped it, havent broken it, and still love it.
  12. I'm gonna go ahead and guess that if it fell off a car - it is going to be bent out of shape completely - your insurance should cover that though!
  13. I've had that problem previously - bikeshop also eventiually gave up - new pads did not help, rotors was straight etc... They eventually guessed that it's the odd exception where that frame and brake vibration amplified one another... not so sure about that. I just sold the brakes - they worked 100% on other bikes. and my next set worked 100% on mine.
  14. 'Chris Rea' today for me - 'Blue Cafe' all the way
  15. Please keep us updated - if this bike is yours - that must be more than enough agains NW's for all the crap to hit the fan!
  16. Good on ya CWC!
  17. that must creak and squeak like bridge in an earthquake!
  18. I would imagine this bike in the same league as the emperor's new clothes... only reason to think it is great, is if you invested money in the guy that built it's company before you saw the designs...
  19. I registered a 46 one day last year...bored out of my mind at work though...and I was pretty fit at that stage. normally around the 57 - 60 zone. But my training is none existant at the moment so won't be anything close to the low 50's.
  20. I just put on a Michelin Wild Rock'r 2.4 over the weekend... its beefy, not the lightest, but man, can it corner!
  21. Epic awesomeness demonstrated right here!
  22. what a beaut!
  23. Hey man, see if you can get some photos, and possibly (I don't want to be the one saying this loud) pop round the bikeshops in Plumstead area unannounced and possibly Cycle traders - Cycle traders are pretty decent, but no second hand dealer can vouch for their stock from the day it was bought unfortunately - and if the guy selling them stolen bikes is sly or creative enough, they can get away with proverbial murder whilst he goes on without being any the wiser...
