  1. I know these are tough times and there are plenty of people out of work but if you don't look around and let people know you are keen to find something new your chances of finding something is reduced to zero. This is what i'm doing, getting the word out. (What do you pay?) I live in JHB, Craighall. As for cleaning cars. Not quite there yet!!! sorry.
  2. So i am looking for a new job, who can help? I'm sick going to work every morning dreading my job and so I'm now ready to get into an industry i love and can make a real success of myself. I'm 27 and have plenty of experience in various industries including, advertising, marketing, sales and retail. If you have anything that you think would suit me give me a shout via PM. Thanks Knievel (not my real name)
  3. I think that was terrible. What the hell am i going to read about tomorrow? Quick, someone post another story or make up something to restart this one!
  4. Could work if you can get the used bikes for a good price. Why not buy them from the township at R300? Most, more than likely, won't even need to be refurbished! And you will be giving money to the needy and under privileged. I think this is a great way of spreading the wealth in SA. HA HA
  5. Lets start building bike together rhalim!!! ha ha. Any investors?
  6. Maybe someone can help me. I want to find a job somewhere within the cycling industry. I'm 27 and have experience in a number of fields and an advertising degree. I am currently running a small environmental company but i have decided that life is too short to spend doing something your heart isn't in and wondering everyday, "why am i doing this?" I love bikes and would really love to get involved in cycling and so i thought i would post and see if any one could help me find a job or point me in the direction of one they know of. I have a good understanding of all things bike but what i lack knowledge wise, i make up for with my passion and enthusiasm for the sport. So if you can help please do. Any advice or job offers (pushing my luck?) will be appreciated. Thanks knievel2009-04-07 02:02:13
  7. 12 inch 24 link method??? I assume that there should be 24 links in 12 inches... correct? Anothr issue i have been having is that the chain gets stuck in between the front sprockets. Why is this happening? It takes forever to get it out and is a complete pain in the ass. The teeth on the rear sprockets (Casette???) look slightly worn but im not sure if that means anything.
  8. I have been having some issues with the chain on my Trek 4500 so i went and bought a new one and popped that on. I measured it against the old one and the links didn't line up exactly but i thought i would try it anyway. Did they give me the wrong chain? It seems identical. It was not a big difference Problem is now every time i pedal it jumps. The lady at linden said if my old chain had worn the rear sprockets i might need to replace them. Is this what i need to do? What will that cost?
  9. I thought last years one was crap as well and so didn't even consider riding this year!
  10. Yawn... Whatever. I'm sure you'll get over it... I agree!!! Sometime you can't know everything mampara!!!
  11. Nice, will have to try this some time! Thanks
  12. If you ride up to Alberts farm can you get on to the melville koppies and come down on the other side somewhere near marks park or maybe even into Melville? If so please give me directions. (If possible)
  13. According to the MTB policeman i spoke to they arrested a group of people trying to mug a cyclist the day before the 94.7. Maybe that is why it's been so quiet. Hope it stays that way.
  14. Good to hear. What is your average speed for that route? I'm averaging just under 20. Can't seem to make it that little bit faster to get over 20. the hills slow me down so much that i can never get a good average. Obviously, i'm a long way off from being a pro cyclist!!!
  15. Did the Police really get mugged or is that just a rumor? Any one know for sure? Are the muggings still on the go? I ride the spruit alone about 3 time a week and i have never had any problem. Not the cleverest idea, i know. I ride from Jan Smuts to Emmerentia and do a few laps up there. Usually about 25km's. Anyone heard of muggings on that section? I know that they were common on the William Nicol - Sunninghill route but never heard of any up the top.
  16. TVR is the way to go. Tequila, Vodka, Red Bull. Costs a bit but it is super delicious!!
  17. How on earth can a bicycle cost more than an Off road motorbike??? You can buy a brand new KTM 250, 2 stroke, for around R 60 000. HOW CAN ANYONE JUSTIFY SELLING A BIKE AT R120 000!!! (Or buying one fore that matter?) Where does the money go!!! Carbon Fiber? Golden seat posts? Back pockets? What makes me laugh the most is that MX bikers complain that KTM's prices are ridiculously high!!!!
  18. I see there are a few different options on their site when it comes to shipping. Which is the best and most reliable? I assume that sending it via Royal mail would mean that it comes through our , not so reliable, post office. Correct?
  19. When will the park be complete? At the moment it seems to be a real "work in progress", Doesn't look too exciting but once complete i think it will be very cool. Will have to stick to the spruit for now!
  20. When will the park be open to the public?
  21. While watching the 94.7 yesterday i got chatting to one of the Randburg MTB Policemen who told me that last week they caught 2 armed robbers on the spurit. Apparently they caught them trying to hi-jack 2 cyclist and "Took them down very hard" - whatever that means. He said that "they would regret the day that they decided to hijack cyclists!!!" (again, whatever that means!!) The policeman was a reservist and says that they have been working very hard at making the spruit a safe place for riders again and they have made many arrests... Lets hope these two people are the ones responsible for all the spruit hi-jackings and that this brings an end to the hi-jackings completely!!! They are also looking for more people to volenteer and become mtb reservists. You get a gun and get to chase people around the river all weekend long!!! (Sounds abit like my childhood) check out their site. http://www.randburg-reservists.co.za/
  22. Im no professional but i have been after doing some research on entry level MTB's and im pretty sure you can do better... From what i have been told those shocks are pretty useless and are not worth a lot. I have also been told to stay away from mechanical discs as they cause more trouble than they are worth and a good set of Vee's will be better in the long run. Why not look at Solomons www.solomons.co.za in PTA? they have a number of good bikes and although it is far (depending on where you live obviously) you will find a bargain there. Why not look at a trek 4500, A gt avalanch or an entry level merida? Im pretty sure they will be better bikes in the long run. Just my 2c, take it or leave it!!!
  23. Where is the best place to buy? Solomons have a special on a Raleigh tri 4000, R3999. Is this a worthwhile option or is it not wise to buy a "triathlon" bike? Their site says it can be used for both triathlons and road racing.
  24. I just did my first road race on Sunday in Pretoria and loved it so now i have decided that i need to buy a road bike as my MTB with slicks just isn't the perfect tool for the job. What is a good bike to start out on? I have around R3000 - R5000k to spend and would like to make the most of it. Any suggestions on what specs i should look for and what i should stay away from?
