  2. Have a chat with bicycle power as they have developed some adapters for the 142mm TA bikes. Pretty pricey but it is now an option.
  3. The CycleOps trainers will work
  4. Unfortunitally not as the international distribution agreement bicycle power has with America only allows for 1 service station per country. We are trying for a second for our clients in CPT though, but for our clients who send wheels up to us in jhb we try for same day turn around depending on time of arrival.
  5. I might have something to help u out, the disc wheel covers.
  6. Current model is R150 new model is also expected to be around that mark view www.bicyclepower.co.za for details
  7. The CycleOps out front mount works with Bryton and they are in the process of launching a second "better" version but this is only expected end of June earliest.
  8. Never seen one on a MTB, of course they make them but their use in the MTB market is not the same as what it is on the road.
  9. I see they have pulled the MTB system from the international web page, for now at least, seems u might not be the only one have problems. The only system that has remained proven in the road and MTB side of things is the CycleOps PowerTap hubs, especially on the MTB the hub is generally one of the most protected areas of the bike. Sorry to hear your problems.
  10. visit www.cadencecycling.co.za they just above cyclelab
  11. so listening to everyone say rollers is a great option but there is no way of adding resistance, this will be a first http://www.cycleops.com/en/products/rollers.html?page=shop.browse&category_id=6 the same brand as the trainer pictured do rollers with resistance, working off magnets, they work pretty well. http://www.bicyclepower.co.za are sold out at the moment but expecting to get more stock during the first week of June.
  12. otherwise known as an A frame trainer, i like the one you pictured, CycleOps good brand they also do rollers. only training equipment to come with a life time warranty!!! the rollers make time go by a little easier and it a true road like feeling but takes a little skill to ride them, the trainers are great if you want to do an endurance workout while watching a movie etc and can let your mind drift and not fall off. both can give an equally challenging workout!!! rollers may be the cheaper option.
  13. a nice function of the Power Tap is that it will auto zero, every time you free wheel for longer than 30sec and there is no power recorded it will auto zero. I think this is the only PM to do so. A manual check of the calibration can also be done and anything between the values of 500-530 is considered acceptable. New values are 512. A manual zero can also be done as what is done with SRM
  14. You have the likes of the Garmin and Bryton etc and then not to mention the app's for smart phones like mentioned above. Something worth looking at is the new GPS unit from CycleOps as per the below like pricing is not too bad either, available June 2012. http://www.bicyclepower.co.za/Products/CycleOpsPowerTaps/tabid/112/ProductID/14/Default.aspx
  15. I would strongly suggest NOT buying overseas as power meters do go wrong and when they do you want the after sales support. I'm not too sure how reliable the quarq is on the MTB same goes with power2max. The powercal could be a good introduction to power and how power training will improve performance
  16. I have tested this unit along with the new joule and joule gps, still allot more R&D needed on the system, it requires constant calibration on a system that can handle power, I.e. a power beam or power tap on an indoor trainer, accuracy levels are expected to be between 5-10% But nothing confirmed yet. However CycleOps make it very clear if you want a true power meters accuracy like the power tap system of 1.5% then a power tap system is the only way, however if you are looking to put a rough estimate to your training and want to know how hard you have worked and track performance stats over the long term the power cal is designed for this market, visit www.bicyclepower.co.za for RRP availability is still to be confirmed however latest update from CycleOps themselves is end June. It will work together with the likes of Garmin once Garmin have updated their firmware, as for the CycleOps joule 2.0, joule 1.0 and the joule GPS the power cal will be fully compatible.
  17. Www.bicyclepower.co.za they have stock and are around R900 or so
  18. if looking for a bullet proof wheel then 28 or 32 spokes is ideal 20 and 24 normally used for racing wheels. some useful info if your weight is more than 75kg and can produce high power i.e. FTP of 280W or more do not go 24 spokes 28 or 32 ideal to race on a 24H with deep section wheels i.e. 60mm is ok as the spokes are a little shorter meaning less flex in the rim
  19. some useful info, weight of Alcyon 24H buitl with double butted Sapium spokes with a SL+ hub 1020g
  20. and for all those wanting a SRM: https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?app=hubmarket&do=view_item&item_id=13367
  21. Should the Power Tap system go wrong and bicycle power are unable to re-calibrate the system a new torque tube can be installed, they can do it while you wait should you make an appointment therefore making power tap not only the cheapest option but also the option with the best local support * applies to units that are bought through bicycle power, "grey" imports will incour extra costs. Therefore NO need to send the unit back to the USA, loan wheels are also available should the fix take longer than 1 day
  22. The guys at CycleOps have thought of everything even workouts have a look at: http://www.cycleops.com/en/cycleops-university/athletes-cu/workouts.html Enjoy
  23. We have not had any problems with the Alcyon rim and if I am correct bicycle power sell the wheel built for R1275 or there abouts So out of all your options it is the cheapest from bicycle power trading. They also have stock!
  24. CycleOps have their own rims however the most common rims used are as follows: 24H Alcyon by Remerx, American Classic 420, DT dwiss if you can find stock (haha) 28H Mavic Open Pro 32H Mavic Open pro or CycleOps branded rim if you contact bicycle power trading they will be able to build any of the above rims up at very good prices and quick turn around time they also know how the power tap wheels should be built up and normally carry stock of the above mentioned rims info(at)bicyclepower.co.za or 011-023-27777 in a couple of months bicycle power trading will have cycleops branded rims in the following options 20, 24, 28 and 32 as well as the spokes to match
