  1. Thanks T. I think I've decided to make my own epoxy carbon / glass tube to mount the light in. It will be sealed at the front with the lens and have a CPU heat sink at the back. I found a Top Peak bike mount at the LBS yesterday that looks like it will work.
  2. Guy's, I'm looking for inspiration wrt mounting the light on the bike. Won't you please post your idea's here. Thug, won't you please post some pictures of your completed unit. At present my plan is to mount the LED's on an old CPU heatsink. Use a 50mm PVC pipe as a housing to seal the lamp, and then somehow mount this on the bike.
  3. Last night I assembled the LED's in series, hooked them up to the Buckpuc k, hooked that up to a 12v battery, and there was light. In fact lots of it, with only 0.96A current draw. Now all I need to do is find / create a housing finalise the battery I'm going to use and mount this all on the bike. Thanks Willehond and Thug for the inspiration.
  4. My order from Rabtron was delivered to my office on Saturday. What incredible service.
  5. My parts should be delivered to my door Monday or Tuesday.
  6. Does anyone know what is going on with cycling at Kyalami? Both last Thursday as well as tonight we where told by the Kyalami officials that cycling was cancelled, however no reason was given and weather wasn't a factor. I get the impression the guy's from Troisport are equally baffled at least one of them was there tonight.
  7. For the record I voted for freedom of speech. However also for the record I really dislike people who needlessly criticise our national teams, in fact I wish they would find another country to live in and support. We would all be better off.
  8. After starting this https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=22910 thread, should sernoche1 be allowed to continue to spread negative sentiment on this forum.
  9. Much as I don't agree with sensorship, if I was an administrator or moderator for the group I would "accidentally" drop sernoche1's account. There should be a rule that you can not criticise a National team until you have stood on the top step of a podium in a world class event. The problem with this country is that everyone is back seat critic and are far to happy to tear down rather than support.
  10. Are there any good rides around Emmerentia Dam / Roosevelt park Rose Gardens with relativly safe parking?
  11. I think I've fought through Jhb traffic to try and get to Kyalami for 5pm, only to be told that they are closed to cyclists, for the last time. Where do people ride (preferably off road / single track)? Another plus would be good parking in the area. I had a blast riding the pavements on Douglas Dr, Kingfisher Av, Leslie Dr, William NIcole and Witkoppen in Fourways when I eventually got home. I'm amazed at how much single track there is to be had on the average pavement.
  12. Thanks for the info, now please share wear you got it, and I'll use the discount to upgrade to Maxxi Crossmarks for good grip and low rolling resistance.

  14. Not trying to hijack the thread. However I'd like to hear what XC racing MTB's people recommend in the under R 7K bracket as I may be buying soon.
  15. Thanks all. Cycle Labs recommend Ian Wilson (irw@thefront.co.za) who I have mailed. I've also spoken to Jill at Mr Price Cycling Youth Academy (yca@mweb.co.za), who's riders dominated the road races at the Vodacom Challenge this weekend. It also seems that Mr Price CYA have had the likes of Daryl Impey, Herman Fouche and Cherise Taylor under their guidance at some time in their careers.
  16. My 15 year old son completed his second 100km race this weekend (at the Vodacom Challenge Yourself Weekend) and finished in 3h10 after stopping to repair a puncture as well as dealing with severe cramps in his thigh's at the end of the race (possibly due to doing the 1 mile swim and a 5km run the previous day). He also rode the race with the age appropriate restricted gearing on an old steel frame Colanago. So here is the question, can anyone recommend a club / youth academy where he can further develop his skill's and maybe give him sufficient grounding to turn pro someday. I'm afraid as a rookie MTB'er, I'm not much help.
  17. I just got my copy of "Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance" delivered to my office for R 199.00. This is +- R 50.00 cheaper than any other vendor I checked, and none of them deliver to your door. The vendor was http://www.take2.co.za , I'll definitely use them again.
  18. They weren't being reckless, although it was a very tight and slow section of the course so I can't tell you what they would do in the faster area's. No binoculars, when you pass birdwatchers you always notice the binoculars. I think it was 3 vehicles in the convoy. Holy Roller, you are correct. The normal bird watchers in 4X4's are excellent, they make an effort not to impact on your, often pulling way out the way and stopping to let bikes through. However there was definitely something different about this group. BTW - Further along the same stretch we cam across a huge water monitor crossing the road. Very cool to see.
  19. While riding on a narrow twisty bit of jeep track at the Lanseria side of NF yesterday, my son and I came across a small convoy of 4X4's coming down the track in the opposite direction. The track was so narrow we had to stop and wait for them to pass before we could carry on. My question is since when are 4X4's allowed at NF, and if they arn't, what is the appropriate way to report the problem. These guy's weren't bird watching, so they can't use that excuse.
