  1. So did you know the 3:50 rule before riding? You intimated earlier that you did. If so, you did intentionally go out and disregard the rules. I find this exchange so puzzling and can't believe that you STILL don't grasp the concept. By all means enjoy the route and the experience, but do it within the rules and don't be self righteous about breaking them. It is Lance Armstrongesque
  2. You are assisted using technology and a motor. 'Normal bikes' are powered only using human power. The rules exist to stop assisted riders towing or influencing speeds of 'normal bikes' as well as safety concerns regarding speed on climbs and bunch skill awareness If you knew the rules prior to riding a 2:50 and choosing to disregard the rules and why they exist and remain wholly uncaring, I would suggest therapy
  3. IMHO they should life ban the e-bikers who don't follow the rules... 🍿
  4. Won't you be disqualified? If you entered as an e-bike you will be disqualified for riding faster than the rules state you can. So did you enter as an e-bike?
  5. Long term prediction is blowing a gale until Thursday Night, moderate to brisk SE Friday and then dead and eerily windless for 8 days on the trot I'd bring the MTB. You can ride the nice road bits on it and still hit the mountain. You will struggle to hit the mountain on a road bike. It gives you more options in terms of where you ride and also when. One really needs to get their road riding done early to avoid the incessant traffic and poo show that is the deep south road system, while the MTB gives you the option of riding any time of the day with little interaction with the traffic
  6. I won't be finishing with the front groups, but I will have a look at the above. I will see how things line up re dates and times and try to get to 1 tonner is fighting form.
  7. That is good advice, thank you Johan I have a road bike and I have 'some' experience racing bikes, but just very out of the loop as to which races focus on in order to jump a group or 7 Thank you all for your input
  8. Aren't there PPA or CSA series that happen too? Cat1 to Cat4 etc? I've seen the chatter but not sure which is which is which
  9. So what are the best races to do between now and next year in order to get ones seeding better? Cape Town based
  10. As far as I know it's a lifetime ban for both the entry holder and the person pretending to be that person. They cite safety reasons ie in the case of a crash/medical emergency all of your medical data is linked to your number board, so the medics will use that info should you be unconscious etc..
  11. From a new person, it's more that every single thread gets dominated by the same 6 people who inevitably make it about themselves. The OP tends to either get forgotten while the hierarchy chatters OR said hierarchy assumes OP is basically them but not them because Noob and sells them something they didn't ask for. So the first few posts usually have 'some' insight but it gets lost in amongst the useless chatter of those who make it about themselves almost every single time. It is the definition of the internet, so no use getting upset about it. There is no smallest violin playing here, but it does make a lot of Noobs not want to engage.
  12. There is some irony or perspective to be gained here..... The Forum users feel they have a right or are responsible for controlling/policing/judging the classifieds while 95% of those that use the classifieds don't even know or couldn't care that the Forums even exist. Much like a lot of the complaints about advertisers overvaluing their goods, it is pretty clear that a vast majority of forum users overvalue their opinion.
  13. He was 100% correct about disc brake road bikes never catching on in the pro peleton too......
  14. For me it's a no brainer if you're in the area. That and the old Voet are two of my favourites. Get in there and Enjoy!
  15. It is really cool if it's still the same. They bus you out to the start at Posberg lands end and you run through the reserve on beautiful undulating roads to Langebaan. The half starts near the bird hides and follows the same route to the end from half way. A quick climb up the only real hill, through the 'burbs to the estate finish and you're home. No logistics, beautiful and relatively easy. 10 out of 10 recommend.
