  1. I know it's a terrible situation, and I understand the furor, I also think we can look at the bigger picture. There is no safer alternative for people living in dangerous areas. There is no safer alternative for those using taxis who can't own cars. There is no safer alternative to walking through dangerous areas for most, there is no safer alternative for many, many basic daily functions for most people living in SA. I do understand that it is frustrating and that there are easy ways to fix things, but there are also far more people dealing with higher priority, higher risk situations daily just to get to/from work which the City should be trying to facilitate before this. IMHO the N1 bridge/railway/bike lane junction should be scrapped and they 'should' find a way to go through Paarden Eiland and over the flyover to the woodstock cycle lane, but as you know, no one cares. So, in closing, no one actually cares enough to do anything about it, so if you put it in the media, take it to Winde/DA/COCT (again) or rant here, history shows that no one in power cares so it is just going in circles. They are dealing with murder, rape and an excess of violent crime and losing. You'd think they would take a small win somewhere but it appears very low on the list of priorities
  2. Which is no longer possible as such a thing doesn't exist Saying 'Sorry chaps, I spoke in error' isn't that difficult
  3. So then No trains as the line doesn't usually run on a Sunday That's the thing, CTCT proudly mention it, say the schedule is on the CTCT website but it isn't and you speak with such certainty in error Anyway, I was hoping to take the train but the lack of or contradicting information is frustratingly pointless
  4. Yes, but is there a timetable anywhere as the when they will be running? That seems to be the missing piece of the puzzle that no one has an answer for
  5. Got you! Hopefully someone is giving theirs away... Have you looked in the classifieds? https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/c/event-entries I see a few going cheap cheap on page 1!
  6. You can still enter on the site can't you?
  7. Hang on.... Isn't he also married with a kid? So a married man with a child is somewhat excused for being a sexual predator of minors because 17 year olds can look hot and be provocative and initiate inappropriate behavior? Yoh..... That starts looking a lot like the 'she had it coming for wearing that bikini' argument. We are responsible for the decisions we make. Saying 'NO' isn't that difficult, unless it is, which means you have a problem
  8. I don't disagree with this. I fully believe that anyone who messes with kids deserves proper punishment. I also don't believe that people with a manipulative and predatory history are ever able to truly put that behind them. But the process for doing that in this case would involve a change of heart from the victims/guardians
  9. 'protected' is not anonymity, which is what the parents wanted in this case. Seriously, you guys should find out what was said when this story broke and WHY before blaming CSA and making other statements that don't align with what has happened here. Kids are very different and dynamics from each family differ hugely. Respect that in this case, the parents chose a route which protects their child's anonymity, which cannot be done in criminal court. That was 3 odd years ago, so the families are able to change their minds, but this conversation is just a few people being critical of a process they evidently know little about/remember little of
  10. Again, referring back to the statements from the families, they don't want their kids to be saddled with this down the line in life. The kids are offered 'some' protection, but names and crimes are common knowledge The families did not want to be named publicly, which is 100% unavoidable in criminal court.
  11. @IceCreamMan and @Martin Albrecht how much of the initial part of this do you remember? From the beginning there was mention that a criminal case was likely never going to be an avenue of pursuit as once raised, there is no way to protect the minors involved. So, regardless of who lays the charges, the kids involved would/could be subpoenaed. This avenue was shut down really quickly by the parents/guardians when the news broke. It had to do with a degree of trauma and reliving events, as well as a degree of privacy and anonymity which is unfortunately not an option in criminal court. (There is a level of 'protection, but all involved in proceedings are aware of names) Always best to remember and appreciate continuity in these things, despite the elapsed time.
  12. What do you propose? I'm really interested in the motive behind picking holes in the process. What do you disagree with in terms of the handling and how would you have done it differently? Bearing in mind the legal aspect of the proceedings and the reach a governing body does have
  13. Hopefully he isn't still having this issue almost 4 years later........
  14. Looks like we missed this! https://www.thule.com/en-us/news/thule-revert
  15. I think both are imitations or a take on the DH shuttle trailers and gondola bike racks to be honest. I've certainly hung my bike like that many times for decades at various uplift systems Pieter is a very experienced DH racer and has been using versions of his for many many years before anyone else in SA had a similar product. Running shuttles at Paarl every other weekend. He is also an amazing machinist and engineer, so he can and will customize a rack for you. It's a really good way to move bikes and fine tuning it for cars has been done by quite a number of companies over the years. If Thule started doing it, I reckon it would explode. Their brand dominance is massive in the bike transportation industry and small guys breaking into their space really struggle
  16. Be weary as legal precedent was set in the Silverback tax case They were found guilty of this by SARS and declared 'deception' is not something you want to get into with them
  17. If I remember correctly, the Lyne Components version 1 hub was compatible/direct swap with the Stans freehub https://www.on-lynecomponents.com/collections/hubs/products/jb01-free-hub-body-xd-driver
  18. I don't follow anyone with any axe to grind and I am not playing the man. We disagree. If you have a few beers and crash one day, or someone else has a few beers and crashes into you one day, I pray to all the various gods that your family aren't injured. It would be a terrible way for you to learn just how tragic it actually is Drugs and heavy machines don't mix. The end. Unfortunately it doesn't even take hundreds of people dying every year on our roads for people to change their attitude and/or culture. We can straw man about poachers and past failures, the state of policing etc but, it looks as though the Law has been backed and passed and may be in effect sooner than anticipated Once active, will you actively choose to comply, or will you continue to live outside of the law and actively, willingly break the law? My hope is that this small change, however unpopular or unenforceable some people think it is, creates the cultural shift towards drinking and driving being 100% unacceptable
  19. So you're comparing syndicates of poachers to drunk drivers? So even you, who is so vehemently for booze, is admitting it is criminal? I think we have the answer right there!
  20. I disagree Hundreds of taxies, cars and illegal vehicles were impounded over the last 8 weeks. Taxis are being policed at the moment. The implementation of smart cameras and license recognition is going to be huge. It isn't 'targeted soft crime'. It is crime. It just affects you, so you're against being caught. You don't rob houses, or rape or murder, but you drive drunk/above the limit and speed. Which is a crime which can be policed relatively safely. There is also much bigger implementation of bike patrol units who do stop motorists mid act. They just can't be everywhere at once and dumb things are done on our roads every few seconds and they each take a few seconds. So if the patrolman in driving 1km away he misses it. Also, it is all strawman stuff. 0% means you cannot justify any sort of drinking and driving. No excuses and no mishaps. If you drink, you don't drive. In theory it will help to break the terrible cycle of justification in our culture which is evident in the comments here. Drugs and heavy machinery don't mix You're just lying to yourself if you think booze and cars aren't that
  21. IMHO this is the way to go Modern ish Geometry, 120mm fork, decent enough components and it carries all the necessary bells and whistles. Low slung so the kid can run a dropper post.... It is also on sale https://giant-bicycles.co.za/products/stp-26-metallic-black?available%20colours=metallic%20black&available%20sizes=regular
  22. ah ok But a fair few hubs were released that can accommodate an 11 speed road cassette. I know I had some with a little spacer on and have subsequently fitted a road cassette without hassle. But. THIS is the answer! Thank you David Marshall
  23. I am still unsure what specifies a 142x12 32 hole road hub vs a mtb hub The specs are the specs. The OP specifies ROAD hub, which is why I asked. I am well aware of what the 'current' MTB hub spacing is, but he specifically says the required hub specs and ROAD I am very curious why a 142x12 mtb hub isn't going to work as there are still plenty. There will in fact be far more of those available that an upper lever road hub with 32 holes, as most upper tier road hubs come with 20 or 24 spoke holes
  24. What is the difference between a road hub and a MTB hub? Genuine question. Road hubs generally have less spokes any 142x12 by 32 spokes hub will work, surely?
  25. The oke rides in a group for a living.... one guy following him down a hill shouldn't make any difference. This is just clickbait and mood filler for engagement during the off season
