  1. It's the 'most friendly' 100 miler in SA. Mostly runable and predictable. It can rain, it can be muggy, but it is seldom freezing cold and seldom boiling hot..... Goldilocks would approve Honestly, if you've put in the work it is the easiest crack at 160km you will get on these shores. Nothing is too steep, nothing is too technical, too hot or too cold.... it is mostly 'just right'.... as 'just right' as a 160km run/stroll/march can be
  2. The thing is, they don't need to take off, they just need to exist as an option. By banning them you're not allowing them to take up space. Taking off and being allowed to be ridden are worlds apart. A company like NINER had pretty good 29er geo off the bat as they just made 29ers. A company or two that want to make 32ers could dial it in pretty quickly. There are also far better virtual tools and continuation in progressive ideas in MTB geo now to make the change less of a jump in thinking. I just find the whole 'Ban it' concept ridiculous. especially by the general public who are in no way forced to engage in a new wheel standard if they don't want to. Ignore the gains or performance aspects, the concept of banning something over whataboutisms is almost as though the big players in the industry who don't want competition are calling the shots. If 32ers suck then they suck, if they are good then they are good. But not allowing them to be ridden? That is some backhand nonsense
  3. Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water No one will be forcing anyone to make them. Bike brands can choose. If they ban them then they cannot choose to make them, which is ridiculous. Niche brands can fill that gap until other big companies feel it is a market worth exploring. But by banning it you are protecting the current shape of the bike market and cutting out an avenue for others to fill. Change isn't bad, companies don't have to embrace the change, but by banning stuff because 'some' big players feel it isn't profitable? Come on.... banning wheel size change over mass economics is ridiculous. Let Moot and WTB have some fun for a while and see if it even has a place before throwing a blanket over it
  4. No in is suggesting it will replace other wheel sizes. David is a very specific part of the industry and I'm sure they will make some wheel extender add ons for industry trueing stands. I certainly got some for my park tool when 29ers replaces 26ers Options are the spice of life. I know a few 2m plus guys who would love to ride an xxl bike with bigger wheels that doesn't look ridiculous Embrace change, don't put your feet in concrete and your head in the sand
  5. Why do you hope they ban them? I was an early adopter of the 29er wheel, I think I got my 1st one in 2007. At the time they were being nay sayed, mocked, ridiculed and nobody carried tires or tubes, never mind forks because 'these ridiculous wagon wheels will never catch on' There were calls to ban them at competition level as well. None of the same happened when 650b suddenly became the new thing. It seems people are only afraid of wheels getting bigger but have less issue when they get smaller. I'm always so interested why the general public are so quick to poo poo on new things, especially the development of cycling. Why ban it? Why WANT to ban it?
  6. Most of the people commenting here almost definitely exceed the rider weight limit on those pieces of chewing gum anyway....
  7. My issue with Magura brakes, especially the 'S' series as stated, is the levers are made of cheese. The reach adjust and bleed screws are made of rubber/plastic and the seals and end stops on the plunger are incredibly easy to damage. Performance wise I have had huge success marrying Shimano levers to Magura calipers - The hardyness and easy use of Shimano levers with modulation and feel. No one can ever convince me that the levers on the Spez bikes weren't a complete pile of absolute dung. I worked on enough bikes in that era to see hundreds of them disintegrate
  8. Are those the trails on Mouton Valley Farm that used to make up the Picket-bo-berg events that were in discussion?
  9. As far as I know the farms aren't 'open to the public' at all. They host a couple of all in corporate events every year, but that's it. Seems like you need to be invited to ride there these days.
  10. I will try that the 142mm vs 135mm may be problematic, but i will see
  11. Anyone have Hope pro2 evo QR end caps knocking around? Happy to pay
  12. The Microshift is good. I have 105 shifters paired to one of those exact RDs (also got it new from Cyclelab) and it does the job beautifully. I run it with an 11-36 cassette though. If your heart is set on a tanpan, which it looks like it is, then I'd say get one. I think anything else won't scratch your itch Another really cool option is the fake Ingrid RD (long cage 52, short cage 46 tooth) from Ali-Express; https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005934742030.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.main.1.7a9f7950b3az0E&algo_pvid=ad732245-1b2f-4d45-a4b2-6395b5adbaaf&algo_exp_id=ad732245-1b2f-4d45-a4b2-6395b5adbaaf-0&pdp_ext_f={"order"%3A"17"%2C"eval"%3A"1"}&pdp_npi=4%40dis!ZAR!2272.37!1681.55!!!120.00!88.80!%40211b628117542903087543496e0550!12000035998659008!sea!ZA!2468727665!X&curPageLogUid=1M68L5zAvP9e&utparam-url=scene%3Asearch|query_from%3A They are brilliant
  13. A TanPan will cost about a grand imported You can buy a GRX deraileur 2nd hand for that or get one of these; https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/rear-derailleurs/811204/microshift-xle-rear-derailleur Both will be compatible with the STi's you want to use and as good as a TanPan/xt combo
  14. Pretty sure that is a power meter hub. The blurry symbol I can't quite make out (did you take the picture with a potato?) looks like a CycleOps/powertap variant, possibly the SL+ model It should have a serial number or model number so you can check on how to change the battery and have a power meter
  15. spending 6k plus for Attakwas is nuts. I've done a few and to be honest, I find the ride pretty uninspiring and boring. It's a slog and the views from the top are fleeting. Last one was pre covid, before I realised that suffering and slogging and doing long stuff for that sake of it means you have been drinking way too much of the coolaid. Spending 6 to 7 hours on the bike is too long to be fun and not long enough to be an adventure. For that price you could do something really cool like cross cape or Freedom Circuit But it's a strange, boring 'tweener event that has little appeal to an old cynical idiot like me I'll stop now Enjoy everyone!
  16. No one can cover every single eventuality. One can cook up all sorts of unlikely scenarios that BH pay or any sort of 'shipped' deal goes south. If you didn't use BH pay you would be in a sticky situation regardless. It offers a level of safety, it offers a peace of mind through reasonable circumstances that you simply don't have paying and trusting. If you are a 'what if' person with an active imagination and fear of being scammed, simply sell to those who can collect and pay on collection. There is absolutely no way ALL imagined threats can be covered
  17. Did I watch the same race as everyone else? Jonas attacked 7 times the other day, from 50km out and all the way to the finish. The next day he attacked at least 3 times pretty early and continued to attack closer to the finish. He couldn't drop him and if he did he couldn't stay away. Pog is in a league of his own. IMHO Jonas needs to race more. Race more 1 day races and get used to (or more in tune with?) the flat taps racing that happens these days. No more sky/Visma train controlling the race and others sitting up accepting it. It is balls out racing. Being in that environment more would benefit him. But I do think current Pog is untouchable by anyone currently riding
  18. I don't though... I am still really confused over the Crusade Those selling low knowingly are the ones with the problem, not BM
  19. So if someone is in a desperate financial situation and they advertise their bike for 30k because they are desperately needing money they are selling their possessions.... BM comes along and says, here, take 10k.... The desperate person says 'oh my gosh, I really need that!' accepts the offer and is then upset that they sold their bike for less than they wanted and it's the buyers fault? I am really struggling to grasp the concept of exploitation and deviousness that you are painting. I used to have a bit of a drinking problem and in India I once paid the equivalent of like 6000zar for a really crap bottle of whisky at 2 in the morning so I could keep the party going. I woke up in the morning thinking that the problem was me, not the person who gained from my issues. BikeMarket don't have any idea who people are or what they are going through. They LowBall EVERYONE equally. You're making out as if they prey on people in a desperate situation but they don't. How would they know? It seems some people you know were forced into a corner through no fault of BM, accepted an offer and afterwards cried foul as they feel they could have received more and suddenly it's personal? If you're in a corner and have to sell stuff, either accept what you get or do some research on what it's worth and stick to it until you sell it. The latter may not be an option so really it's moot. Seems a crusade against a perceived evil that doesn't exist unless you really want to believe it exists.... I suggest a sigil with a white background and a red cross!
  20. This I honestly can't see how it is upsetting. Selling and buying things shouldn't be emotional. Is it annoying? Yes Is it the grossest of exploitation? Definitely not. Is it even exploitation? I don't think it is. Block them and move on. There is no criminal element to this and there are definitely older hubbers who will remember individual resellers like MikeOK and RyanPMB and a few others who used to lowball hard or snap up all the deals, then resell. It all seems incredibly dramatic
  21. Buy low, sell high..... Seems like a reasonable business strategy to me. 'The Grossest of exploitation' ..... sjoe. I'd say that people who underpay their house staff, gardeners and bread line staff are a far bigger, more grotesque, common issue that I'm sure some people hating on James are guilty of Seriously, get over it He isn't stealing, he isn't scamming, he isn't forcing anyone to do anything. He is offering a value to something that he is comfortable offering to turn it into financial gain. The Grossest of exploitation...... It really is very, very far from that.
  22. I was looking at these flat mount calipers. They look fantastic. But Mineral oil https://www.temu.com/za/-cnc-hydraulic-disc-brake-clamp-for-road-bikes-aluminum-alloy-flat-handlebar-brake-adapter-with--adjustable-clamp---part-mountain-bike-accessories-sleek-metallic--precision-engineering-bike-maintenance-g-601102124470062.html
  23. 1 is made in China, 1 is made in Japan. Many people have Magura MT range brakes which quite possibly have the worst, least reliable levers made of cheese. They really were/are terrible BUT the big S specced them on all their mid range bikes for years, so nobody bats an eyelid. Don't look now, but a large number of Spez bikes are currently specced with Temu/ali brakes now. For real. I'd be tempted to pair the calipers with less adjustable levers as most levers with any sort of easy twist reach adjust are, well, too adjustable and get weaker as prolonged pressure is applied A closed hydraulic system isn't rocket science. It isn't going to explode and burn your face off. At worst one brake gets spongy on you and you try a trail fix or nurse it home. I was looking at the 2pot flat mount calipers for my gravel bike. They look really cool IMHO those single pot Hopes are rubbish. Had a set of them and the E4s and preferred my cheap as chips Shimano ZEE Just to conclude, these will be as good or better than a lot of branded stuff and more than good enough for 90% of us
  24. I have a Giro switchblade I used to use for #Endurobro or when I rode the more #Gnar trails and did jump lines etc I started wearing it on Blackhill too when lapping the old jump line as well as G-Spot It made me feel 'comfortable' knowing I was better protected which made me relax and in turn, more composed at speed. Luckily the chin bar has never been needed, but I have seen plenty of crashes (both kids and grownups) that would have been a dust off and 'yoh!' with a full face but instead were a bloody and toothy mess IMHO, after skills, helmets and knee pads are more important than anything else when you're focusing on jumps and speed - and definitely when you're combining them. The jumps at Westlake or G-land probably less necessary as they are slow and deliberate, but adding speed and big carry distance, even the small road gap at G-spot or casing small gap jumps at speed can get nasty quickly I'm a big believer that you can never be too well protected, especially as a kid still learning the skills. Recovering from grazes, concussion and dental surgery sucks, and is completely unnecessary most of the time with the right equipment For R1500, buy this; https://leatt.com/za/helmet-mtb-enduro-2-0-junior-v24.html?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21344001342&gbraid=0AAAAA9lbBEJWi-bJbk73s8sp7BC2EGSWr&gclid=Cj0KCQjwkILEBhDeARIsAL--pjzy1q2V2YrWNpvtjriAYudHgXF7Gk7MPKio735goeDnhd1LzXl4duAaApq6EALw_wcB
