The trails are still there but they're in the worst condition I've seen - loads of leaves/twigs etc on the trail making for some quite random/fun grip - quite a few fallen trees not cleared yet. That said the usual condition is fantastic so even in "poor" condition it is fun to ride and super convenient for riders in the area. Tons of animals to see which makes for a cool ride - we saw njala, bontebok (or something similar), springbok and a duiker last week.

Amateur hack - measure where the old saddle was 80mm wide and place the new saddle in exactly the same place where it is 80mm wide. Pro hack - take is back to your fitter and get them to do it. Any decent fitter should offer a follow up - ask them to fit the new saddle during the follow up.

Hey everyone - I have a customer going to the Cape in a few week's time and he is taking his gravel bike with. I left SA before Gravel was really a thing so I can't help him with info. Please can the Cape Gravel experts step forward and help out with rides, routes, groups and an offer to take him riding. PCS have a Q36.5 PRO and Conti team "registered" for 2023 which include the results from the MTNQhubeakassoshash series of teams. Current random intel would suggest Q36.5 is the next iteration...MTNDimensionQhubeakassoshashQ36.5!

Same questions here... I had assumed Doug would keep his MTNQhubAssosnexthash license and turn it into Q36.5 but I have no idea if his license was cancelled after not making the UCI payment cut off. Anyone else with better intel?

Hopefully they have him on a shared road/mtb programme. It seems to be an acceptable thing to do now that road cycling is out of the dark ages...

That looks like good old fashioned corrosion caused by poor coating. All the little bumps in the paint around the visible corrosion are spots where the alu is oxidising under the paint. Do you live near the coast? Salt is terrible for alu. It is only a surface problem though - a sand blast and respray should sort it out.

Between getting the business up and running, racing duathlon/xterra/gravel and having to visit family in 2 countries (expat tax!) time is a little short....it is definitely on the to do list though. I will certainly ask for your advice when I do. Some of your pics have had me drooling on my keyboard....

A customer of mine and I have decided to skip the cold weather here in Denmark and ride bike parks in and around Cape Town in Jan 2023. I did a similar thing around 6 years and rode trails all the way from Cape Town to PE and back. Garden Route Trail Park was by far my favourite route - is it still in good nick? Worth the drive? Sedgefield and Knysna are close by too.... We'll probably set up two hubs - 1 week in Cape Town and 1 week in Knysna. The contenders are: Cape Town: Hillcrest, Tokai, Bloemendal, Jonkershoek, Meerendal, Hoogekraal, Hemel en Aarde Knysna: Garden Route, Harkerville, I'm sure there are new ones and I have forgotten/missed many. Please educate me!

Super model? This bike looks like it has been cobbled together from different parts of different super models that were all different heights, weights, colours and shapes. It hurts my eyes. This gets my vote for fugliest bike of the year.

Each manufacturer makes effectively 3 style of road bike: Aero/sprint, endurance and lightweight/in between, Trek it's: Madone - Domane - Emonda Canyon: Aeroad - Endurace - Ultimate Giant: Propel - Defy - TCR A fitter should measure you up and let you know which geometry suits you best. Picking a bike then making yourself fit onto it is a terrible way to buy a bike - we do it because we fall in love with a particular brand and model but it isn't the best way to buy a bike.

Top tube is not the way frames are measured these days. Nor is it everything. Top tube suffers from the same "sloping frame" induced problem that the seat tube does. The Giant you mentioned above doesn't state whether it is actual or effective top tube length... Canyon Grizl uses actual, Trek Madone uses effective. It's a mine field. Using a single metric like top tube (whether effective or actual or unknown) to pick frame size is ridiculous. Plus - without knowing your torso and arm length how do you decide on the right length top tube? Let's use you as an example - at 178cm Giant recommend the M or the M/L - what data did you use to choose between the two?
