  1. This isn't a difficult concept to understand. If you don't want drivers to jump stop streets, red lights and drive like tonsils then you shouldn't ride through stop streets, jump red lights and ride like a tonsil. Walkers and runners feel exactly about riders how we feel about cars. The onus should always be on the more powerful/dangerous to protect the weaker but that doesn't give the weaker the right to behave as they wish.
  2. Being a dick is never socially acceptable - whether it's buzzing a cyclist in a car, jumping a red light on your bike or jumping the queue for your mochapumpkinspicedvanilla latte.
  3. Exactly as it should. South Africans have gotten far too comfortable with crime and violence. The expression "Africa is not for sissies" should be banned. Once you see the absolute horror/disbelief on a Dane's face when you tell them you've been hijacked you realise how desensitized to violence and crime we've become. There should be outrage and protests and uprisings and action.
  4. Quite right. Scandis are quite non confrontational - it's the Fins you have to worry about. They held off Russia with 2 farmers and a hunter!
  5. Yup - the downside of being a trusting nation is having that trust abused by arseholes. Mostly Danes are an unflappable lot. I witnessed a car accident last year - both drivers jumped out to ask each other if they were ok. No finger pointing and swearing - just two people getting on with life after an accident. We use MobilePay over here - mobile phone based payment system where you type in the amount and number then swipe right to approve the transaction. I have never checked or asked to check the trasaction has gone through and never once have I been swindled. Bike insurance just pays out - nobody comes to check the bike. I just send through a short report and quote and they pay me (all in under 48 hours). South African criminals could loot the entire country in a few hours I reckon.
  6. Ah the good old stereotyping. It causes *** all the way from how we treat each other daily to how Russian soldiers treat Ukranian civilians. Listen to me - I've been in Denmark for a little over 5 years and I'm all liberal'n'**** 🙂
  7. This is quite an interesting side to the nordics. They are more nationalist than racist but colour certainly determines how people will treat you here. I have felt some of it because my name is not Danish. It is pretty interesting as a middle aged white male to experience a tiny fragment of what black South Africans experience daily. On the plus side - being black (or not Danish) will certainly get you treated with a little less respect but I would guess being a black foreigner in South Africa comes with a significant chance of having your business damaged or you being harmed. Bad apples in society are what shapes society. For instance I'd guess that less than 1% of South Africans are criminals but it means that the other 99% need to have insurance, stay in the right areas, check who is following, not show valuables/cash, have anti hijacking, expensive insurance etc. The only real difference between the Nordics and SA is that there are far fewer bad apples here (and the general attitude to the law is far more positive).
  8. That is the issue with fines - they shape specific behaviour but not general behaviour...and it only punishes/shapes when caught (which is not a lot given the amount of police versus population). A better way is shape society - this would also solve the problem Morne spoke about. Much easier said than done of course....and it is really easy for me to say because I now live in a society that is probably the best example of how a society should function.
  9. To be fair the title is a bit misleading - he was fined for driving dangerously not because she fell over. Fining is all good and well but you can't fine people into being better people - that is a societal issue.

Ohhhh Pog went and got himself into trouble there.... Amazing race. Anyone else see the Climate Change/Vegan wandering around the finishing straight?

  12. Zwift sell a gadget called a Runn which smartifies any old treadmill. Works pretty well.
  13. Copenhagen :-)
  14. I've just become an Orbea dealer over here. Amazing bikes and competitive pricing. Now to get my hands on a Oiz and Terra so I can start understanding the bikes a bit more. Orca Aero to follow :-)
  15. It's all about the price. If they charged full retail for a previously opened OEM bagged chain then yeah they're a bit dodgy and you can have a little hubmoan. If you got a good discount for a chain taken off a bike or opened by a previous customer then all is fair. As long as the chain is in unused and long enough (if removed from a bike) then win-win.
  16. The words Rusty and Gate, when combined still make my legs quake and my heart rate hit 300. My partner that year was nearly 16k lighter than me and climbed like the love child of Michael Rasmussen and a Mountain Goat.

Why are there hypotheses though? The dude said he is going home to see his family - his team said he is going home to see his family. Why are we going all covidflatearth on this? #modernlifeproblems

The team is claiming it isn't a visa issue - but rather a training block plan for the Giro: https://cyclingtips.com/2022/03/no-visa-issues-for-girmay-who-passes-on-flanders-with-an-eye-on-the-giro/?fbclid=IwAR35qcRQdQPukjM42quZr83r1bmQ_oHkBaiDBQSq4UWbWcxjXeZRcFoVCig
  20. I'm sure every hubseller has a story... Mine was a guy pleading poverty so I dropped the price to a ridiculous level(they were cheapie Shimano wheels) then he pleaded transport poverty so I offered to deliver. When I got there he had 20% below the ridiculous price we had already agreed and said "take it or leave it".
  21. This! Gouging for profit is dodgy AF. Most people I know will drop a bit off the price if the buyer plays the sympathy card...but if that sympathy is a ploy for profit then the buyer/reseller deserves a lifetime's worth of crotchfleas.
  22. Legal but morally questionable. One of the downsides of growth - bad for the "old timers" who like a community feel/spirit but great for Matt and the gang who can make a decent living off their passion.
  23. Wout, Tadej, Matthieu, Pidcock, Hirschi, O'Connor etc are all proof that getting comfy doesn't diminish the drive. It may in some but it is definitely not a geberal problem in pro cycling....

Indeed. He was almost level with Laporte and going considerably faster before anyone even looked right. Caught them napping and then showed Laporte a full set of watt heels.
