  1. "Learn the art of climbing from one of the greatest climbers in cycling today, Michael Rasmussen, aka the ?flying chicken.? Don't miss this amazing opportunity. In addition to cycling, our program features lectures and question and answer sessions about climbing, training, and ?life in the peloton? by Michael himself. Additional sessions cover biomechanics, sports nutrition, and offer a professional bike fitting." http://www.granfondocyclingtours.com/rasmussen_camp_08.htm?gclid=CKeBnqPG-ZUCFQxgQgod4TpvEw if it wasn't for real it be funny no mention of how to repackage your veterinary supplies for international shipping though......! 2. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=33553 Check out the link to another hub thread - there's bloody inspiration all around us..... why is it these lot are not doing anything? If the answer is "they are" then they need to get a new PR agency on board as it seems not a soul on the Hub has anything good to say about them, end even less about CSA initiatives to promote & develop cycling! Kinda fundamental for any governing body I think it's fair to say PPWTF2008-09-26 04:09:06
  3. I'm in CPT so it's awesome hearing that around the country something similar is already being run (regionally) These already established initiatives should be visible on a national level I know there's another thread on here about it, but isn't this what the CSA should really get directly involved with? - Sponsorship of initiatives only happen when sponsors get exposure - Press / PR agent to publicize the initiatives - Press / PR agent to build media profile of the South African cycling - Why doesn't CSA partner with SuperCyling to promote this stuff (at least then there is fresh show content and SuperCyling has a platform within the cycling community to engage and stay relivent)
  4. "Specialized Bicycle Components has backed the expansion program of the Northern California (NorCal) High School Mountain Bike Racing League, which has recently created a Southern California league and is now drawing up plans for state-oriented high school cycling leagues across the USA." http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/specialized-backing-norcal-high-school-mtb-league-expansion-18732 If this isn't inspirational then nothing is. How about a SuperCycling/ Bike manufacturers sponsored equivalent here in South Africa.....
  5. Lynskey belt drive single speed from this years Eurobike.......

Can't fix the formatting so posted it anyway.......! If the show is unwilling to feature teams / pro riders because of sponsorship / advertising issues then I think it?s sunk ? cycling is a branding and logo driven sport - that this is at the heart of the issue surrounding show content is a big problem...... If the show can?t even run a pro team or rider feature, how can they even begin to make the leap to testing new equipment and actually giving a critical or honest opinion.(the Top Gear style format is awesome; it makes the already appealing idea of watching someone else thrash a mega bucks carbon fibre dream machine even more appealing when piss taking and jokes are added) Demographics wise there is so much to the sport of cycling, no one show can realistically cover it all ? but that?s what the extreme sports channel is for; BMX, Urban trials, Down Hill etc?.. If Super cycling wanted to expand their airtime presence (and generate more advertising revenue to cover features) it could do worse than have a Mountain bike specific show featuring the international and domestic scene; 4x, downhill, XC, trails and locations, developments in the sport (freeride is about to take over) ? even if much of the footage was sources from the Etreme sports channel, Transworldsport or where ever, but sliced with local presenters and mini features. The sport and recreational cycling scene is growing here ? rapidly ? these guys need to get imaginative quickly and get with the programme, before the show becomes irrelevant and dies a 94.7 rerun induced death?? 7. Was drooling over the on-one Scandal 29er single speed, got to thinking about the Rohloff hub..... Google turns up some beautiful things...... http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=tech/2005/news/02-21 PPWTF2008-09-26 01:27:50
  8. - Token Freak and Kiwi are just the start of a new to SA approach to servicing the marketplace. - I mentioned before that wiggle started as a LBS, an now generates 5million pounds a year - Plenty of guys here have mentioned ebay and Taiwan direct sellers... - Online internationals will remain popular until the SA equivalent appears in the local market (CWC is making the early running) A vibrant marketplace is an innovative marketplace. Now if it takes (x) working days to import product from the far east via couriers who have a good clearing agent, why not embrace online sales as a strongly complimentary element to the highstreet stores (the point may come where the online business financially assists the development or expansion of the glossy flagship national retail outlets in the prime retail locations). The argument is often that online sales will close the stores in the long run - I can't agree. Going online expands the business and brand far beyond the store geographic footprint
  9. "If you?ve ever been left behind on the chaingang or struggled to stay with the bunch on a long singletrack grind (and would prefer not to put in any training miles) you might want to consider adding a secret weapon: the Gruber Assist." http://www.bikeradar.com/commuting/news/article/eurobike-turbo-boost-motor-and-charge-road-rigs-18520 "The entire system adds about 1900g (4.2lb) but feeds up to 200 watts of power straight to the cranks; simply hit the turbo button hidden in your bar end and off you go, beaming smiles as you pass your riding pals with almost no effort on stiff climbs on a ?standard? bike." I want one for Christmas...
  10. http://www.bikeradar.com/news/article/training-world-class-racers-and-weekend-warriors-18649 Sports doctors Massimo "Max" Testa and Eric Heiden are currently promoting their book Faster, Better, Stronger which is aimed at anyone, not just cyclists, who wants to get fit. http://www.amazon.com/Faster-Better-Stronger-Secrets-Healthier/dp/0061215236 PPWTF2008-09-21 09:19:22

  13. No sport does more than cycling in the fight against doping - how the hell is it possible that that can be turned into a negative message! The 'riddled with dopers' view is driven by Big Dick and his buddies, wanting to act big in the media, picking on a minority sport with a media profile...! I've said it here before; - Why does know body sound of about Power Lifting - the biggest busts for doping at any Olympics. - Why no sound off at Nordic skiing / Biathlon, the biggest dopers at winter Olympics..... Ah, that's right, they have absolutely no media profile what so ever..... So instead it's cycling which gets dragged backwards through the gutter and gang F**ked by a bunch of bureaucrats with no stomach for a real fight against sports doping, because we all know the oh so gold plated premium Olympic sport of track and feild has no such problem!!!!!!!! Cycling is the smoke screen behind which this useless rabble are hiding, and our sport is being totally tarnished by people who have no direct involvement in, or love of it - all in name of maintaining there own lofty positions, pay cheques and power base. - Italian League football totally buried there 90's doping programmes, funny, that never made people think the sport was riddled Reason why it never made the light of day / got properly investigated - to many lofty connections and to much money to lose So I come back to my original point - No sport does more than cycling in the fight against doping - how the hell is it possible that that can be turned into a negative message! (unless it serves a specific groups agenda) ......yes, clearly I got out on the wrong side of the bed this morning PPWTF2008-09-19 00:38:27
  14. This kinda thing is normally priceless in uping your marketing and brand power / credibility - shame it's him of the phantom twin riding it, kills any potential Raleigh marketing & publicity value stone dead.....!
  15. Gabriel Road, Plumstead, just opposite the post office - not sure what price for a true but you can be sure Lance will have your bike running sweet. PPWTF2008-09-18 02:56:11
  16. Lance at Epic - watched him tune / service and build up everything from stock Road & MTB wheelsets; Mavic, DTSwiss etc, to the creme de la creme; Hope, Chris King, Industry9. Look no futher, you've found your man
  17. A totally new challenge which brings the Epic in line with the BC hardcore mountain biking race type developments that are driving international marathon races. From what's been seen and talked about the new route takes the Epic back to the heart of the Mountain biking community and away from the TdF of Mountain biking format which has seen growing numbers of critics - a technical course will only do good things for the global reputation and standing of the race, and will showcase new riding locations to a global TV audience. SA Tourism should get with the programme and start specific marketing of the quality SA riding destinations in the way European and North American riding mecca's do. This new, wilder Epic is a real boost for the race and the country. Coupled this with the UCI mountain biking here next year and the destination value factor has the kind of power that is the stuff of tourism and marketing dreams - go Epic, go technical - the best SA has to offer just got better (and no I don't work for the company - didn't even get an entry this year ) PPWTF2008-09-17 08:11:55
  18. Sean - your PM box is full..... trying to send but getting the hub version of "your call cannot be connected at this time, please try again latter"
  19. nice one JB - just like the American auto industry. Nobody outside the US wants their product either; same reason - quality sucks
  20. SRAM - except the Dura Ace 're-branded' cranks
  21. Shame this kinda article will never get published in a mainstream cycling mag - imagine the damage it would do to all those mega buck marketing / image driven 'hi end' products... The European automotive industry has had it's dose of reality with price fixing - this is exactly the kind of article which would make bicycle manufacturers think twice with the outrageous margins / mark up on 'premium brands' Much of the cycling industry is owned by conglomerates anyway, Dorel etc, and just like BMW or Porsche, those who continue to make genuinely premium products in house will continue to thrive on the back of a quality of product and aspirational power created by the quality - anything else is just Fiat dressed as Ferrari, or should I say Taiwan Hodaka dressed as Bianchi..................... the times they are a changing; information is power and the net has empowered consumers like no other PPWTF2008-09-12 04:28:45
