  1. Just as important as the tyre is the pressure at which you ride. Too hard and you bounce and too soft and well........... This is very specific to your conditions, weight and type of tyre. Get the hang of what your current tyre can or cant do and how you can change its characteristics before splashing out on tyres. You will also be in a better position to ask the right questions as to what you want your tyre to do.
  2. Ja, and a serious twist of that rubber arm.
  3. Awesome! Did you stay at the Cavern?
  4. Be very careful when you light that stuff! Watch the eyebrows!
  5. My advice is to keep her away from a big group until she has worked up a bit of confidence. Across the river from Hacklebrook (at Conrad/Jan Smuts) the path goes upstream. About a kay up you hit Delta Park. Perfect place to learn and get into it. Patient is my middle name.
  6. This trail is a gem. I am in Karkloof this weekend but will gladly take you out next weekend if you are keen. I am in Parkhurst. Once you have the general just of the trail you can explore so many variations to keep it interesting. There are also many people and clubs doing awesome work in building bridges, jumps, etc. A few people still need to learn a bit of trail etiquette but thankfully those are few and far between. A friendly smile and a hello go a long way and guys on the trail are only too happy to point you in the right direction. Most important thing is safety and where NOT to go.
  7. The Shimano xtr cable kit also has the aligator style cable stops. TRy get these separate if you are going the xtr route as the cable outers are pre cut and for the life of me I dont know what bike they were for but they dont fit anything I have seen. The cable stops have a longer sleeve at the ferule, like a little tube that the cable runs through to make it more difficult for crap to get in. They also have a rubber o-ring.
  8. His Epic has the same plastic bracket as I presume is on your HT. Just bypassed it. Can you not do a similar job as you have on your Epic? I ride a Yeti asr and all the cables run on the top tube but am disappointed to see the 08 model runs the front derailleur below the BB. Dont know why they would change this. There was a post somewhere on the Hub about these little ferules that fit into the frame cable mounts to allow you to run a full outer all the way through without drilling your mounts. That might help you.
  9. Is it an Epic? My stage race partner had his cable fed though a housing under the bottom bracket on his Epic. Much smoother and lasted longer.
  10. Cool. Away for the week but back in Joeys on Sunday night so will get my bits to you then.
  11. That is Bootyful! Are you going to clear coat on top of the decals?
  12. I had a UK MTB magazine (can't remember which one and unfortunately have thrown it away) where a staff member set up a Giant hardtail with Campag road mech. Double chain ring and 10 speed cassette. He used the shifters from one of their touring groupsets. Had been running it for a year with zero problems. Nice one for a Campag fan to try out.
  13. Aaaah. Will be interested to see if it can be fixed. Either way will keep parts. If frame is a throwout I have a set of Juicy 5s that I am willing to donate should the next frame be disc compatable.
  14. Surely not? Out of interest, how does a frame crack like that? Wipe, overtightening post clamp?
  15. madmarc, have taken my Yeti to Gerald at JG Powdercoaters and that would definitely last better. Let me know if I can help.
  16. Politics, religion, chain maintenance...................
  17. Don't forget to give your jockey wheel a wipe when you clean your chain. That's where the black stuff that isn't on your chain sits.
  18. Earbuds for birthday, christmas, easter..................... If you love your bike, no price too small.
  19. There is only one sure-fire way to keep your chain clean! http://sheldonbrown.com/chainclean.html
  20. As with everything on Sani the footage was really cool. Trailed the tandem through some single track and for the life of me I dont know how they could turn on some of those switchbacks on Nicks Pass. TANDEM=BIG BALLS
  21. I drink Heineken but keep them in the fridge for anyone who might be joining you in the build. Would be keen to help and put JB's course to good use. RaceFace crankset in the bin. Have some clincher tyres as well. Will check if there is anything else. I dont think i have a front derailleur.
  22. Must be for a build up and not a spare. Rather have the stuff used than sitting around gathering dust. Madmarc let me know otherwise lowracer send me a pic of your project.
  23. Got X9 for you. Get me a case of beer or make a donation to my favourite charity and its yours.
  24. This is what happens when you reweld frames!
