  1. Hey Ferret, I just replaced my Giros with a pair Of Fizik M5. They feel awfully comfortable. What is your opinion about durability of the M5's? I was a little concerned because they look so fragile...
  2. Hi Sas, I've done the Epic with the Giro Privateer shoes and was very happy with them. The amount of time you will spend walking on the Epic depends on your fitness/skills level. I found the walking part is generally overrated - even the back markers spend more time in the saddle than walking. Therefore I wouldn't aim for a special hiking oriented shoe but rather go for a model with a stiffer outsole to provide a better power transfer. Having said that - the most important part is that the shoe fits comfortably. You will spend 6hrs + in the shoes - make sure that they fit properly and also use them at least 3 months before the race. The Terraduro looks very comfy though. I recommend to try them on and make at least a short test ride on your pedals. If you can significantly feel the pedals through the outsole it might not be the best choice. Good luck with the Epic!
  3. It's cool that event organizers think about that. I found it such a good idea especially in winter when there is a great risk of fetching a cold.
  4. I really enjoyed the race. It was the second time for me riding the Greyton Classic. The route is awesome and was almost the same stretch we rode on the Epic this year. The weather was holding up perfectly but unfortunately only until the price giving. I don't consider the parking being quite a distance away from the venue a problem - use it as a warm up. The food stalls where nice and the venue itself is fantastic. Furthermore - at which day race have you ever been provided with mobile hot showers? Greyton will see me next year again for sure.
  5. Entered the 75km. Hope they find a solution for this bottleneck in the beginning but I doubt it. Will be a sprint from the start again to get there early...
  6. I tried the wine and it was not to my liking. It's rather on the sweet side.
  7. I always pull the thorns out and let the sealant do its work. With the thorns still in the tire you wouldn't be able to fit a tube when you are in a race or you have a sidewall cut.
  8. Hey copperhead, it was nice meeting you. I was also thinking about throwing the towel in at the half way mark with all the punctures, my mate gone and seeing you sitting there :-) Then I decided it might build character if I pull through that mess... I must say it was not a nice ride at all. I might take a break from the 100miler for a while.
  9. Na - my bike life so far taught me that even if you ride a perfect circle the wind will come full frontal the whole time...
  10. I remember they had a pasta dish at the lunch stop last year...
  11. I'm usually the only one riding a CUBE bike :-)
  12. I'm also aiming for sub 7 - was planning to ride with my Epic partner. You are welcome to join. Interested to share a ride? I'll be travelling from Muizenberg and could pick you up somewhere along the way.
  13. Every single time I plan to take it easy from the start but I always buckle to the group pressure and go all out. Happened on every epic stage - the first hour 80% MHR... Dunno how to solve this... ;-)
  14. Also thanks from my side - it was an awesome route! More single track than I expected - quite a few passages I remembered from W2W and Epic. Would have been cool to get hold of a warm coffee after the race though...
  15. So what are you up to training wise this week? Some climbing? Intervals? Or tapering your ass off? I was planning to ride a 2h session on Wednesday and Thursday and maybe focus some more on stretching every day. Nothing on Friday and Saturday though. What are your plans?
  16. CUBE AMS 100 SUPER HPC RACE 29 Look S-Track pedals Geax Saguaro back and front
  17. I brought 4 pair of these into the country for the epic: http://www.x-bionic.com/men/biking/mountainbike/mountain-biking/135406/detail I really like them - on my foot much more comfy than the Falke and First Ascent I used before.
  18. I think Meerendal will be packed with Cape Epic contenders on the weekend. Count me in
  19. Nope - here is what we get: http://www.cape-epic.com/riders/new-riders/registration-package
  20. Hi Rob, do you think it will be possible to contact you on short notice on Saturday after registration? I would like to test my packing skills first and then decide if I need your service...
  21. Hi Ians, we are 176 :-) Cu on the start ramp...
  22. Not what are you looking for but this might be the page you have to check frequently: http://www.cape-epic.com/riders/the-2014-race/start-times
  23. I also was expecting to get their 120l world traveller bag. Besides the nutrition which takes up a lot of space I'll need to take a few tools and spares as well cause I can't afford a mechanic service. My partner and I now organised a supply delivery halfway through the race so we don't have to pack supplement food for the whole week. I usually take only a pillow case and stuff it with what is available - old camping trick... Any tips what you guys think is absolute essential to bring? What is your experience with the laundry service? Is it realistic to hand in a bag for washing and getting it back the next day?
  24. Many Thanks! That thing does indeed look pretty small. Packing challenge accepted...
  25. Hey V12man, where did you find the bag dimensions? I would like to check if my toolbox etc. fits in there. Could you please provide a link or the dimensions for me?
