  4. I really like the sticker idea - it's kind of a guerrilla method... Check out this: http://www.theguardian.com/environment/bike-blog/2014/sep/29/bike-lane-sticker-campaign-canada-uk And you can order here: :-) http://iparkedinabikelane.bigcartel.com/product/i-parked-in-a-bike-lane-sticker
  5. These guys are paddling in with their rhino chasers which are unbelievable hard to turn. If they would tow in they could use smaller boards which would result in more agile surfing :-)
  6. Ultra-trail Cape Town 2015 registration opens today :-) 100km - 4400m 65km - 3000m 20km - 900m 3rd October 2015 Maybe the 65km as a goal for 2015? Should take around 10h or something...
  7. I was (ab)using the Salomon Speedcross 3 for trail running and also part time on tar. The thread on the Speedcross is just not made for street use - it disappeared quite quickly while running on tar. My new setup is now Salomon Fellcross for trail only and Salomon Sense Pro for street/trail. Will keep you updated how the Sense Pro keeps up on tar... :-)
  8. I secured an early entry so I get the T-shirt for free :-) Have you seen a route profile yet? I can't find anything on the website. More proper trail running is going to happen this Saturday in Muizenberg: http://www.quantumadventures.co.za/2013/09/30/muizenberg-mountain-run-30-nov/ I heard that there are still some entries left - in case you are interested :-)
  9. Hi guys, a South African - German team is looking for an entry. Payment can be arranged in EUR or ZAR. Let me know if you want to get rid of yours... Thanks
  10. Entered my first duathlon - kind of excited. Do I need a cable lock for my bike or are the transition zones generally guarded enough? :-)
  11. Come on - give him some slack. It was his first post - probably a bit nervous. Also he's from the North West...
  12. Check this thread here for more info: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/141519-1x11-vs-2x10/
  13. So - only one start group for the 75km? I can't remember how it was last year - was there any kind of seeding? Or first to load - first to start?
  14. Check Kalahari.com - the Suunto Ambit 2S on sale: http://www.kalahari.com/Sports-and-Fitness/Suunto-Ambit-2S-Lime_p_48607713
  15. Just noticed that Kalahari.com is running a special on the Suunto Ambit 2S: http://www.kalahari.com/Sports-and-Fitness/Suunto-Ambit-2S-Lime_p_48607713 Maybe that's also an option for you.

  17. At the 100miler a couple of weeks ago my riding buddy was on his new Spez with a 1x10 setup for the first time. While at the Cape Epic he was pulling me through the flat sections, on that day he couldn't hold onto my back wheel anymore despite paddling like a squirrel. Since then he's experimenting with different ratios to find a setup which suits him properly. IMHO I prefer a 2x10 setup - especially for marathon races. For me the wider range outweighs the advantages of a single front ring. But it all comes down to what kind of riding you do and where your strength are in riding style.
  18. So - Bolla, to spice things up how about riding the route the other way round?
  19. Not for sissies anyway...
  20. If you can afford it - do it. My experience from this years Cape Epic: I found the Cape Epic provided massages very good and absolutely necessary. So no shortcut on massages - you'll need them. Don't know if a personal masseuse can be of more benefit... The provided Cape Epic bag was an absolute joke. Way too small to carry substantial equipment. I was being my own mechanic - so with some tools, spare parts, personal nutrition and a sleeping bag there was not much room left for anything else. If they don't improve on that part I think it's impossible to do the Epic without a private support vehicle. Also - next Epic I would buy a mechanic package... Sleeping in the tents was not a problem - but I consider a height of 1.90m the threshold of sleeping comfortably... :-) If you are a light sleeper maybe the tented village is not for you. Lots of chitter chatter and snoring. Hope that info was helpful
  21. Argh - unfortunately this weekend I'm not in Cape Town. Maybe one of the following weekends. I desperately need base training get going again and then it's nice not to ride alone for hours and hours...
  22. IMHO it might be too early. In October last year I was still clocking in mostly base training miles. Racing hard would have been counterproductive for me at that stage. Of course you can use Pioneer just to get the mileage in but then why spend that much money and then not race? Also I find it difficult not to race when in a race... However - it all depends on your personal training plan, current fitness level and ambitions. Good luck with the Epic!! It's an awesome experience!!
  23. Haha - I remember from last year you could earn some bucks on the climb up the pass. So the front bunch was very nervous with breakouts etc. As copperhead said the race is not too hard if the weather conditions are good. I assume it can get pretty tough though if there is a headwind. So get a group together is a good advice. Hey copperhead - keen to build a group from the start this time? ;-)
