  1. More vigor required..police were called and in typical as fashion it took about 30 min to respond..in this time we retrained the guys whenever they attempted to escape (imagine wht u would do if u caught a thief in your house he he)

Police eventually arrived and my friend accompanied them to police station to give his statement and complete documents to ensure this would not fall thru cracks due to insufficient evidence or documents..

2 weeks later h gets a call from the police station requesting him to report to a detective in connection with his citizens arrest..he reports to them confidently and proud thinking hey want to officially thank him or maybe offer a reward..to his surprise when he arrived there they arrested and charged him with assault to do grievous bodily harm..WTF

This sentence was more serious than the common house breaking charge the guys were initially arrested..he had to get an attorney..go through the drama of finger prints..potential criminal record..hectic ***..

After a month of anguish for the family he agreed to drop the charges against the guys who broke into house if they did the same..Now is this justice

Me I said they must prove I was there..so wasn't charged but felt crap for my buddy..

My question is simple and would like a legal opinion please..what are our rights in our ability to retaliate if our property's amazed or family is threatened ..who does this constitution work for..it doesn't appear to protect the hard working law abiding citizens.

  2. I had an interesting experience 2 years ago..a friend was renovating his house so was not living on site..one evening I got a calls from him asking me if I could stay with him a he hous because thieves had vandalized the house taking the copper pipes taps etc..so we camped out there, me thinking it being futile..why would the thieves return?

At about 6 am were woken by some scratching on the window and it turned out to be the neighbor h was on his way for a run and recognised the same guys going in the direction of the back yard as the day before..we waited a few minutes then heard grating sounds from the rear of the house..fortunately there was only 1 way off the property and we investigated via this route which meant the only way to escape would be over or thru us..now I'm 6'3" weigh 106 kg ..not a very good cyclist but when it comes to some confrontational situations I'm pretty confident to hold my own..I digress..we found 2 guys pulling a copper pipe off the wall 1 was standing on a drum to loosen the higher area..we asked them very calmly wht they were doing and the guy on the drum said they were instructed to do this by the owner..well that was the last thing we heard..have anyone seen what happen when a guy standing on a big steel drum has his legs hit out from unde him from the side..almost like a jackass movie..head hit side of the barrel then the ground..friend tried to run but was also restrained..called police waited forever and as each tried to escape needed to restrain ..at times

  3. Hi

Yes I agree having a firearm is scary and there are many reasons not to have one, the people who participate in these activities like burglary are armed and there are too many stories of people being hurt despite giving them what thieves want without any resistance my approach is simple yes protect your perimeter fence and home but if they Breach that through my German Shepard they will have to go through me and my Glock. Better to have a Glock and not need it than need it and not have it.

  4. The changes from 666 to 675 is purely cosmetic upgrade or marketing.

The mbuk shootout compares m666 to m785 and slx overall winner that it even has 1 nm extra stopping power than xt therefore you do not compromise on performance for the additional 19g weight difference and 35% saving on cost.

I have m675 and IMHO you they are awesome,

  5. Oh btw check out the forum for slx m666 vs xt m785 brakes in tech q&a section.

Here hey discuss the pros and cons of each..

Good luck with your decision , oh agree totally about not going for black crank..oh don't go for anything other than xt for the rest of the components too..xt is bomb proof..you won't regret.

  6. I'd appreciate if you guys could look through my parts to build up the OneTen29 before I place my orders in case I've missed something or spec'ed it incorrectly.

At the moment I'm not sure about the bar length. What bar widths are you guys mostly riding with? Is 700mm a little narrow for a 29er?

Same with the stem length, I'm 6'2" and will have a size L frame. Any longer than 90mm would seem too long for this type of bike? Also, with the wide bars it may be better to go for a shorter stem (maybe 70-80mm) to speed up the steering a little. What do you guys think?

Hi Bob i have one ten 29 with almost same build as u suggesting, in 2012 brake shoot out SLX won the only difference is the forged handle in xt ans a spring believe m the difference in price not worth it wont see significant difference.

I have Thompson layback post with gobi Kium saddle looked at droppers but jury still out on which great dropper ..altho reverb highly regarded but will wait..and see I believe this an area biggest improvement is still to come.

I too have a large and am 1,87m if that help..I'm very comfortable.

I have Arch ex wheels with saguaro TNT tires..feel secure not fan of pace star..rather snakeskin as someone else suggested..u don't want spend so much on a bike and the area that connects with the ground is slightly compromised..

I went for fox fork don't know specs..I guess it's my preference for fox ..

Oh yes lastly FSa bar and stem, bar I think 695mm ..personally I found it sufficient ..anything wider I found not to be comfortable.

My feedback on bike is ..wow..had anthem x1 29 was very happy with that never imagined a bike being better..the pyga suspension absorbs everything and anything u will ever encounter every ride will be pure joy..morewood definitely knows his stuff..we really blessed to have the privilege of owning a Pyga..happy safe riding

  7. Hi guys

I'm a newb to table mountain and was hoping someone would have an update on the safety of our beautiful mountain. Over the last few months a recall there being a spate of thefts however since its been quite. Have the group targetting cyclists around the block house been apprehended and the syndicate broken?

Is there a website I can check to get status of mountain safety?

    Will appreciate input.

    Regards

    Nad

  8. Rip haven't had the pleasure of meeting you but you are a legend. Condolences to your family. I'm hoping your death will not be in vain but highlight to the authorities the plight of cyclists on sa rds.

You have made your mark on the world.

  9. Crown cycles ...guys this family business is very well managed mark is amazing in the workshop Hilton and Gary always willing to help and the prices generally are 20% cheaper than Olympic.

The fact that it's also down the rd from Olympic and without the congestion of looking for parking..I'm still trying to understand why ppl go thru the aggravation at Olympic..could it be loyalty..if so it should be reciprocated by OC.

  10. Hi

I'm sory but in the interview vettel came acros as an arrogant prick. In my many years of watching the racing greats being interiewed not once have they sworn they have always been humble in victory..evn kimi the race winner was more subdued.

He has lost my respect and support the twat.

Finance and Economic Development MEC Alan Winde. Photo: Jason Boud

Cape Town - MEC Alan Winde was mugged while on his bike on his way to work on Friday morning.

But the finance, economic development and tourism minister had the last laugh as his bodyguard tracked down and arrested the assailant within an hour.

Speaking to the Cape Argus soon after the drama, Winde, pictured, praised the superb work by his police protector. “We left my home in Durbanville at 6am. At around 7.10 we were riding on the bicycle lane through Paarden Eiland, near where the lane passes under the N1.

“There was a man standing in the road, and as we rode past he grabbed my arm and pulled me off my bike, also knocking my protector off his bike.”

The bodyguard was not named as he is a member of the police’s VIP protection services unit.

“[The mugger] leaned over, and pulled my cellphone out of my cycling shirt’s back pocket,” Winde said. “My protector kicked him, but he ran away.”

Winde and his bodyguard cycled to his office and tracked his cellphone.

“My phone is an iPhone, so we immediately tracked it to Woodstock.”

Apple iPhones are equipped with self-tracking technology using GPS locators.

“My protector and driver jumped in the car, and using a second iPhone, tracked the guy and arrested him. We are at the police station now laying charges,” Winde said mid-morning.

Asked about any injuries, Winde laughed: “At worst, I have a bit of a sore bum.”

Winde said he would raise the incident with the province’s and city’s teams working on cycling safety projects, and also report the incident to the City’s Mayco member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, to discuss any possible further safety measures for the route, if they were deemed necessary.

In a statement this morning, Winde said: “To the man who stole my cellphone, your actions will not deter me, and the many others who enjoy cycling in our city, from returning to my bike.

“Next week, I will be back on my bike. You [the mugger], on the other hand, will be in jail.”

Great publicity for the plight of the dangers we as cyclists face daily and we don't have the luxury of protectors...any comments..

  13.

That exact shoe is from sportsmansbasement for R999,00.

I am just not sure how good the brand is and the fastening system?

Hi I have a lake..good value for money no complaints. The boa system principle is similar to the s works with with knob turning using thin metal to tighten our shoe.

  14. Interesting topic this

Riding buddies and I discussed this the other day as well. When is enough, enough? I was planning on building a PYGA up with XT, Fox, ZTR etc, and it all amounted to about 40K (from CRC). That was until I sat back and thought about the amount. 40K!! That is a lot of money in anyone’s books (even for those in a midlife crisis).

I think the most I can ever see myself pay for a bike is 30K. I love cycling. I eat, sleep, breath, talk, think…. cycling and am totally addicted to it, but you still have to sit back and see what the opportunity cost of such a purchase is. Not only with bikes, but the gear as well.

What is your max amount (not based on current income, just realistically)?

Why do we limit ourselves when it comes to our toys..if the wife needs a washing machine, holiday, car etc we get them the best we can afford..so y don't u buy the pyga with xt ztr etc ..u work hard u deserve it. Life is short my man we have this belief that Tomorrow things will be easier or get better when in hindsight we are in the prime of our lives ...right now. So short of robbing a bank or putting yourself in debt buy the pyga or cannondale ..who knows how long we have on earth..how often have u heard people saying i should have done..gone..if you young u imagine things be easier as u earn more.. But with that come more debt responsibilities commitments..I recall as a student working as a waiter earning 200 a weekend being 'richer' than I am now. So go out and buy ur dream bike..I did..live for the moment ..life's short
