  1. This really raises my blood pressure - last year my partner pulled out but luckily before the cutoff time - when I was informed that if it had been a couple of days longer, full price would have had to be paid I almost lost it - granted there are some name changes to be made on a computer somewhere but how can you justify doubling the entry fee for a genuine reason - like breaking a bone
  2. Had a D/B Topanga as a student in the 90's - fond memories - broke my collarbone in Tokai and took it to London where I worked as a surveyor on different sites - so toured London on my bike - sold it up there before returning - sad day - oh and it was pink
  3. thanks for the warning - such a pity as I also feel very comfotable up there - false sense of security I guess
  4. as for debt R0.5 mil
  5. Noooo - got it all wrong bud - get her on a bike - ride for hours and she'll be too exhausted to shop.

This really gets the juices flowing
  7. they're on to us - there's no were to hide - run forest run
  8. massa for win in brazil hamilton for 2nd and therefore title kimi needs a couple of toots in him before he lets rip on the track - officials are cramping he's style
  9. Connery cos I was named after him... But I like Craig cos he brings a ruggedness to the role that makes it more real. Agree with you about the ruggedness and realness
  10. You serious????
  11. Attakwas 08 was rough
  12. Incidentally, if your rear pads wore out before your front ones, you're predominantly using the wrong brake. A rear brake doesn't stop much, but still eats pads. Focus on that front brake. Hi Johan I'm a bit confused about this. I was always under the impression that you used your rear brakes a lot more (to slow down) and used both to stop or slow down fast. I have concentrated on the front brakes a lot lately as I didn't have any rear brakes. Please let me know if I've been misinformed. Thanks
  13. Clinty, you've just been defeated by FUD. Don't give up so easily. BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Honda, Hyundai, TATA, you name it, they all play the same game. They tell the ladies and suits who bring their cars there to service that should they use parts other than OEM parts they will die in horrible accidents, scalded by boiling brake fluid. Yet Ferrodo and ATE seems to do well. In fact, most cars are fitted with these pads albeit in OEM guise. Shop around, have a look at http://www.koolstop.com/brakes/DiscBrakes/index.php Find an online retailer that can supply the Koolstop product for your brakes. Cycling needn't cost an arm and a leg and you shouldn't have to wait until Christmas for new pads. Incidentally, if your rear pads wore out before your front ones, you're predominantly using the wrong brake. A rear brake doesn't stop much, but still eats pads. Focus on that front brake. Thanks Johan I phoned up the agents for koolstop as they are in Cape Town (got off internet) and they can get the pads i'm looking for but it would take a while (I did suggest taking 4 or 5 pairs) They gave me a rough estimate of R89 odd (depending on exchange rate) but compare that to R320. So my next set will come via that route. Also looked on the Magura website and they do mention that the warranty is forfeited if you don't use genuine parts. Thanks again for your help
  14. Thanks all I've replaced my rear brake pads with the originals and I'll wait till Chrismas for the front ones. So the bottom line is I'm going to have to pay lank for a quality product and get it from Joh. Last question - how long should these pads last during normal weekend riding as apposed to Epic riding and training (which the 1st pair went through)
  15. Ja' date=' I do but the last bit of my thumb is still exposed. [/quote'] use full gloves - not cut off - especially in winter
  16. I?m looking for some info. I?m looking for Magura Louise 5.1 Performance or 5.2 Endurance brake pads to fit a 2008 Merida HFS 3000. I?m struggling to find them in <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Cape Town. The bike shops in Cape Town all need to get them down from Joh but here?s the real shocker : R320 + for one wheel set so almost R650 for the bike. So my question is : Are there any generics out there that I?m not being told about and is this a reasonable amount to pay?
  17. I'm intersted in this course. If it's not in Cape Town - does anyone know of courses being offered for maintaining bikes in Cape Town?
  18. It would be so easy to lose concentration just looking at the view
  19. Hi Chappie As far as I can remember we started training in November on the 16 week Polar training schedule. December is disruptive but just persevere and don't loose any sleep if you miss a ride. We finished top 200 so I was very happy with our training.
  20. That's nothing I still remember seeing Wally Hayward puking at the finish... he was like 80 or something.... No that was awesome... to party and drink like that the night before Comrades is one thing, but at that age That reminds me of my father in law. He and his mates had an allnighter and got to his flat with enough time to change into his running gear. Aparently they all finished but they all puked all the way. Legend
  21. Just keep your beer intake to 3 on the route - 4 is juuuuust to many and spread them nicely - so maybe 1st at Brass Bell or somewhere in Simonstown then maybe the Red Herring or Champmans Peak Hotel (refueling for Suikerbossie) and then a final victory beer either in Camps Bay or La med. After the ride of course there are no restrictions so celebrate a great event in a beautiful city
  22. cops trying to give his bike away - dude says no thanks masked man
