  1. We had one... It was "moderated" away
  2. I'll do the red pill! You are not going back 40 years (or however old you are now, minus 10) You are restarting your life now, living forward...
  3. I would hope he thinks it is cool too, otherwise he wouldn't have gotten it? (Remember, no one said: "Cool, I am going to cut of my leg so that I can get one too..."
  4. So, why did you enter in the first place? Why not rather volunteer as a firefighter, and sit at home over week-ends, rather than ride your bike, in case you are needed? Why not skip that nice steak the next time, and donate the money instead? Give your bike to somebody that can use it to commute to work? Or... Rather just grow up...
  5. Don't you think the problem is: They are not doing the Cycle Tour anymore. It is a different race now, just happens to overlap part of the Cycle Tour's route...
  6. That's for the plebs The disciples got the opportunity to enter about 3 weeks ago already...
  7. tubless? It is usually pretty easy to spot. First, there will be carrier on top of the rear tyre. Then there will be a tub strapped onto the aforementioned carrier. So, if you don't spot any of those, I'm pretty sure you can assume it is tubless...
  8. Not as magical as you think. With Baycity, you were still building for the Argus - probably had a hard ride on the Saturday and crammed intervals and hill training the week before as well. You'll probably start tapering now already, with only 2 or 3 shortish rides next week, vegetating on the Saturday, to arrive at the Argus well rested. Then, when you perhaps do get "dropped" on the Argus, you usually get sweeped up quickly by the next group - and they have no real interest in having you help in front - they are better than you after all So, from there onwards you also travel faster for longer than you would in a normal funride.
  9. I (really) don't see any clarification. You say that Louis is not (Ipso Facto) Elite, which implies he gets the U/23 jersey. But how can he then get the Elite Jersey (as well)?
  10. This is a topic on its own --> why would you (anybody) need to replace a frame that many times?
  11. There's your problem - take a leaf from Tax101 --> often when you increase the tax rate, you end up getting less tax in total. Remember for this type of "cash cow", it is really the marginal entrant that super-boosts your profit. So lower the fee, increase the number of entrants, and Bob's your uncle?
  12. there's the problem - why should there be more than one, and why should he be paid a month's salary, for a Saturday morning's work?
  13. If you are running specials on Sundays, me and the missus will be there! (It is one of my carrots to get her out with me... --> breakfast, especially so if it is an omelette-to-die-for, or a milkshake, if later in the morning)
  14. (Although I was amused by your phrasing ) Same thing happened to me recently, except I had mine for close to 6 (if not more) years. A guy in Tulbagh is selling one. With any luck, I can get him to drop his price a bit, and be on wheels by the week end again - argus is around the corner and I've been of the bike for 5 weeks now...
  15. Most replied with bikes that are way too expensive for those purposes. Go for Silverback lower end or even cheaper Merida lower end
  16. I get conflicting information: Could you please confirm the times of all events? I had it: Plebs on wannabee-bikes 18:00 start. Race 30 minutes plus a lap Pros on proper-bikes 19:00 start. Race 60 minutes plus a lap. Now your picture above indicates a change, as does some media reports I've seen.
  17. The irony is that whilst riding, you don't need any special GI product --> Team Type 1 being prove: Some of them are diabetic, but whilst on the bike, they guzzlewhatever like crazy, even Coke. So, don't fall for that bit of marketing hype (I am not saying avoid the product --> just don't let "low GI" sway your opinion)
  18. Sorry Slowbee, nothing personal, but this is the kind of view that gets my hackles up. On a "theoretical" level, choice (and competition) comes from choosing between A, B or C, not between A or not-A. On an ethical level, complaining about a rip-off does not require a holier-than-though approach --> even if you choose not-A, then you might still be pissed off...
  19. You put up a typical strawman. Nobody is arguing that or whether "too much" should be replaced with "too little"... (at least, I am not )
  20. Agree. I've mentioned this in the past too. Couple of guys (currently) and a couple of groups (in summer time) riding out of Kuilsrivier, over Polkadraai in Stellenbosch' direction serial offenders...
  21. The general response here is typical of a chain around November (when all are gatvol and logic takes a back seat to quick tempers and irritation), rather than January, when everybody should be rested and a little more tolerant - what gives?!NOWHERE did the OP said he wants to exploit some (imaginery) loophole. He simply asked where is the rule spelled out...
  22. problem is actually that you don't have a real understanding of the dangers riding on a road, especially one like that with no shoulder. Nor do you fully grasp the laws of the road... (That picture aside - I agree the one guy is a little too far to the right ) For passing ANY vehicle, you need to wait until it is safe to do so, and then pass with a sufficient margin between you and said vehicle (usually in the next lane) Yes: bicycle = vehicle. Any half-decent roadie will tell you you should ensure you have a "presence" on the road (whilst keeping safety in mind of course) - so where there is no shoulder, you first ensure you have a "bailing" option to the left, then you keep sufficiently to the right, in case you have a chipped-off road end; and you also "force" other vehicles to not try and pass you in the same lane, if there is insufficient space for you and a vehicle on the left of the centre line... On the last topic, throw the picture in reversion --> do you think there is enough space to the right of the car, for a single-file cyclist? Yes, there is, but barely. Now notice where the car would be in the face of uncoming traffic (remember the picture is in reversion) Ah, you got it, I see: the car still would not have been able to pass safely. (And to the commenter on roadies and single file --> first learn the sport before commenting: Yes, we use the same "tools", being a piece of carbon et al on top of 2 wheels, but that is where the similarity ends.)
  23. You can join me at 04:30 But I suspect you'll have a problem with my route --> one way to Bellville (actually, it is an out&back, but Back only takes place at 16:00 )
  24. Hier le^ my vrou Griet; In die hemel is sy; niet in die hel, dit weet ek wel. vs. Hier le^ my vrou Griet; In die hemel is sy niet; in die hel, dit weet ek wel.
  25. I don't think I'll buy from an LBS that stole my old bike...
