  1. Same topic, but different tack. I read sometime ago that hot weather actually improves time for sprint-events on the track. Hence, there's an expectation of world records galore at the Olympics. Don't have time to gugl this now - maybe somebody else can and educate the rest of us as to the reasons :-)
  2. I beg to disagree " I am looking for XL frame, 10 speed, Aluminium or carbon fibre." Continuing then with examples that he had a look at, which happened to be Tiagra equipped, hence my comment I did give an alternative to soften the price-tag's impact too. What I thought the astute reader would also realise, is that I (attempted) a kind/gentle approach of saying: Dude, you've progressed from a tricycle to something barely better. Now you want to replace it with another entry level bike (Tiagra IS entry level). Seriously, you don't need to own everything between entry and worth-your-while --> it is ok to jump to soemthing worth your while. Anyway, my trippance
  3. At least buy something with 105, but preferably Ultegra - the price jump is not that much. Try getting a 2011 (or better still, earlier) model --> far cheaper and it was ALL THE RAVE a mere 12 months ago
  4. If it has been said - sue me... Problem starts with pros doing it all the time --> and then Phil et al has the audacity to explain that it is ok because it will be picked up by a souvenir hunter - yeah right. (His conviction is starting to waiver lately though - almost as if he is not believing himself anymore.)
  5. Hammer does provide a nice bottle that you can fill from the larger container - cheaper that way too...
  6. NO!! This is aboslutely not the way to do it That is what results in hte pace being picked up, and the lady will not be able to hang on at the back --> when your turn is over, you fall back. The next guy should not pro-actively take over - he should be forced to take the lead. Period. That sommer at the same time addresses the problem of staying out in front too long and to some extent, getting the wheel-suckers to do a bit in front.
  7. There ain't no 2cent anymore... In fact, I've read that soon there not gonna be 5cent as well --> you need to upgrade the value of your opinion to at least 10cent in future!
  8. I second that - with the kind of budget mentioned earlier, they can pay for him/her as well --> make it a pre-requisite for the "special" treatment.
  9. It sounds like you're already resigned to the fact that the wheel is toast --> it is just a matter of cashflow/time, before you replace it? Then I'd say max your credit card and replace it now - you only live once If the idea is to rebuild with new rim, once it arrives, then go for it on the current butchered wheel, but not FTW - take it easy on downhill and just enjoy the experience...
  10. Saw similar comparisons in the past. Pity they did not standardise the starting point - sure TdeF way out, but not so clear by how much the Jock outguns the Argus, apart from that one cliff
  11. THe guy has a point, althought I don't agree with the reasons mentioned, nor with the ranting. I too felt the pinch, having to pay entry for a whole family --> try entry times 4 The student-argument never carries kudos with me --> it is seldom that the student is not sponsored by a dad, so "poor" does not come into play. Your poor BA-graduate (Flamesuit) with the menial job will find it much more difficult to make ends meet (Daddy tends to shut the tap, when junior is employed...) However, I always wondered: if one looks at it from a pure economical point --> who's to say entries won't double, if the fee is reduced by 25%? My beef is not with the run-off the mill R70 odd entries, but those that think they are special, charging R150+ My trippance...
  12. Talking about coincidence - I am NOT in KZN

  14. Play nice KM - it was funny you don't see us roadies getting ourselves in a twist, being made fun off by a bunch of wannabee cyclists (aka mounties) now do you?
  15. I don'tthink he "reads the Hub" --> only joined yesterday, and only posted once. But I agree: two sides of the story. Client is (mostly) right though... I would have taken my bike inside, despite his request - no piece of equipment of mine that expensive is left outside in the cold The sweaty clothes issue could also easily have been addressed by offering an alternative (like washing and drying it for free - THAT's how you get customer loyalty)
  16. Agree - chill big time! "Fat" is relative. 90kg is skinny for a sumo-wrestler, but "fat" for an average-length bike rider. Period...
