    Sad but true. It's tough out there. Cyclist don't want to pay more than R2.50, but at the end of the day there are costs me thinks.

    Although the first climb was "tamed" it was still a proper climb. Satellite was left out probably because of the dangerous descent on the other side. Race still had 1850m climbing in it. Proper proper day out. Tons of soft sand and just no free kilometers. I did a 5:12m this year, HAVE TO get sub 5 next yr.

    I doubt it was a challenge getting a sponsor, it was more than like (A) a cost cutting exersize and or (B) supporting local industry by asking them to create the 7500 odd garments. I loved every minute of it, but have to agree, either do something properly or don't do it. W2W gives you 1 jacket or 1 bag each year. Nothing more, nothing less, but it's a proper jacket / bag. I know the history of Sani has been mega kit etc, but ja we mustn't forget it's actually about the TRAIL and not the goody bag.

    You are so right. The broken brigade rode a 4hr flat which really surprised me. We have 8min on then (3h51m) today will be fun down the Umko.

    This is indeed shaping up to be something comical, but I'm also riding with 2 mates that are the walking injured. One guy had a punctured lung from a needling physio session gone bad and the other guy has a hernia in his diaphragm. Talk about die hards... If they beat us, I'm selling my bike.

    Baie dankie hoor! In case you were wondering. ESI grips don't work on this bike as the remote lock on out attachment doubles as a grip clamp. Will have to make another plan post Sani. The standard grips are pretty hard (no issue for full fingers, but eina without).

    It can be VERY cold at the start, but the days quickly heat up. 2 years ago, we rode in a tropical storm basically and we quickly shed our kit as we climbed up the umko.
