I did my first one this year and it was AWESOME!

Have to admit, the Spioenkop climb is nothing to worry about. It's a tar road. Van Gaalens, some of the short / sharp climbs in Sani, W2W etc have many tougher climbs. In fact, on Day 3, there is a climb or 2 in berg and bush that is way more hectic than Spioenk. It is however a LOVELY climb as it one of those talked about landmark climbs. What I LOOOVVEEDD about last year, was the Red Bull tent at the bottom of the climb. HAHA

I"m not complaining about the route, but look, the first stop for the Ultra was stupid. A bottleneck so close to the start is just not great, surely a small bridge would have completely cleared out that section. Then, onto what I expected and what I got. Well, I've "heard" the Crater Cruise is more like a road race, so I was expecting a lot of district road. From that perspective, I was actually happily suprised by the variety en route, my only complaint was that you had no food at the 25 or 50km water points. I'm not asking for a buffet, but a little potato or ring donut to keep me going would have been awesome. The 93km water point with cold coke and oranges was a total life saver and I LOVED the river water point as I had a full on swim. If I do the Ultra again, I'll simply be sure to take more food with me as I blew as a result of not eating enough before the 70km mark. Then when I reached the 70km water point, I was so low that I struggled to eat. Picked myself off the floor, marched on and eventually finished in a painful 7hr. Tough day at the office, lessons learnt. Bring on W2W.

I try to add north cliff hill into each spruit journey. The hill makes it feel like a better work out. B:)

I used to rock a 3x10 with a 22t & 40t in the front and a 38t at the back (yes PROPER granny). Now I'm riding on a 2 x 10 with 24t & 38t in front and a 36t at the back. You get used to it. It's GREAT!

Legend for pushing through man. I have a couple of woppers under my belt. A 4h45m magalies monster HALF. A 6:45 Cradle Trophy (70km). HEHE. Those hurt like a mugg. thankfully, I've graduated from that kind of riding.

Eina BLIKSEM! I saw a guy in front of me go ASS over KETTLE in a single track section just after some district road. He was wearing black Nissan kit and was a fairly strong rider (as he was in front of me) hehe. Hope you did okay buddy, I told the medics to go and have a look at you. Also saw your tyre was pomped.

I'm riding the Ultra. Haven't done it before, but heard it's more road / district than hardcore single track MTBing.

Yip, almost no pics. I had a good one, for me, 3:17m from C batch which included a front wheel puncture that I plugged. First race, post TransBaviaans, on HT 29er, used to ride a 26er DualSus.

Anybody have a route profile? I fail to understand how it's not readily available on the website. Perhaps I'm just looking like a plonker...

I spoke to them this morning. They seem to be in the process of finalising the list. So at this stage it seems like no one has received any notifications. Apparently there is like 1000+ riders on the waiting list for Trail alone.

Can you please share this ride via gps file. Have never ridden to Greek church, heard its proper.

Yip, the lottery vibe is obviously new, so there are challenges. I guess putting the names in excel and doing a random calc on numbers wont be the best move, but it could work. Hahahaha
