  1. My wife is going to be a bit unhappy about that, she wanted to look for Bambi while I show the hills who is the boss...
  2. I want to ride at Sbosrand on Saturday. Can anyone give an idea of how much car traffic I can expect on the training road within the reserve, and what their general behaviour is towards cyclists?
  3. I have the 3 bike Thule, easy to use and no problems with it. It is a bit tight for 3 bikes though, it would be better if they made the tubes about 50mm longer. There have been no issues whatsoever with regard to it coming loose or anything like that, I tested it once by hanging on it (87kg), and it stayed tight. Mine has the screw down clamp.

    Some Tips?

110% correct. No matter who does what, the rider always comes off second best.

  6. I'm trying to decide between the Dura Ace 7900 C24 and the Ksyrium SL? Both sell for R8000 at CWC, the DA is a bit lighter (1395g) than the Ksyrium (1485g). Both get mainly good reviews when doing google searches. Any suggestions / good or bad points?
  7. Lab Ad: Why should I shop at Cycle Lab; Cycle Lab The Experts in Cycling! -30 day test ride. If you are not happy with your purchase we will exchange it or replace it. -Most knowledgeable and helpful staff. -Best mechanics available. We pride ourselves on having the best workshops in SA. -We believe in; Service above all else! Maybe you got one of the bikes returned on day 29. What do they do with those bikes anyway? I've never seen a second hand bike advertised at CL. Or is the 30 day return thing a load of hype?
  8. The whole thing of not naming the shop is a load of BS. This post is completely different to the recent one about CWC which got the poster into so much hot water. In this case, the shop knew about the damage, and worse still, tried to hide it. Who is to say that the frame could not have failed while being ridden, and put the rider in hospital? This is not a mistake, it is straightforward deception on the part of the supplier. Name them.
  9. Thanks, I will check out all of these
  10. Anyone know of good deals going on alum frame, carbon fork 105 spec bikes at the moment, in Jhb / Pta? I need one for a beginner. New only.
  11. I have used both. IMO the Continental is better. Rolls well, and is very resistant to cuts. After 1000k's, my Vittoria's were full of nicks & cuts and pretty much ready for replacement. On the last Vittoria I had two punctures, on the Continentals none to date, about 1200k's, and they still look good too. For racing, if nicks / cuts and k's travelled between changes are not an issue, mine were pretty much equal in terms of performance (but then I am an amateur, not a boy-racer)
  12. Ugly. Looks like a woman with a huge backside.
  13. Thanks, she is recovering well, should be able to ride again in a week or so. Her left wrist/arm took a hammering so she can't grip a handlebar right now. Everything else should heal up quite quickly ~ the benefit of youth. I reckon if I did something like that with my old bones I would be in more pieces than the bicycle...
  14. The marshalling of my group was excellent, those guys did a great job. The traffic was a bit painful, but nothing major. The metro cops were the buttholes of the day, in my opinion. My daughter was involved in the finish line accident, when a metro cop car turned in front of her just before the line. Fortunately she didn't suffer major injuries. I spoke the matlosana rider, he told me he fell twice, once to get out of the way of another metro cop and the second time when he touched wheels at the finish. My gripe with the organisers ~ no medical personell whatsoever were on scene. An external paramedic was called, who arrived nearly half an hour after the accident/s. Had the injuries been more serious, we would have had a problem. So all in all, a good race that was marred by avoidable incidents. Cyclists 0, metro cops 2.
  15. I’m looking for a weekend riding partner or partners, in Midrand and surrounding areas. I don’t want to get involved in the club scene for various reasons, so that’s not an option. I do road cycling, Saturday and Sunday, varying routes, speeds and distances between 40 and 100k’s, so it should suit pretty much any person with an average to good fitness level. Only time I don’t ride is when the weather is really miserable, I don’t believe in torturing myself. Normal starting time is around 7.30 – 8am (winter) If interested, PM me and we can work something out.
  16. Political risk insurance in SA..... That is one policy that would sell like hot cakes. Sign me up, one of my biggest fears is when the masses occupy the extra acres of my plot "that I am not using". If we don't build wall to wall, we will probably lose it, just a matter of time. It's probably too late for me, but my kids are getting the hell out of here, and most of their friends are doing the same. It's a damn shame.
