  1. With all the tri bikes out in the cradle over weekends - what are you guys training for? Is there an upcomming tri I dont know about...? Surely not everybody out can be training for an upcomming international event nor can I imagine that you start training for 70.3 or IMSA just yet?

    2012 Ironman

I've tested my 910XT on my wrist with open water swimming a few times and it is pretty accurate. Also measured my IM swim at 4.7km. If you look at the photos of the swim it is easy to see how you can swim an additional 1km. It will probably be exactly 3.8km when to take the shortes distance from buoy to buoy.
  3. The E118 is becoming more and more of a good option. The one thing the Cervelo has on it though is the lifetime waranty on the frame as opposed to the three year waranty on the others....
  4. At about R90k the P5 is going to be above most weekend warriors' budget....
  5. New Forerunner 910XT works well in the water to measure how far you have gone
  6. The P3 carbon was released in '04/'05 and other than paint work has not changed much since then. Same story with the P2. They are essentially different bikes and not just a newer release of a previous one. Although they havent been upgraded / redesigend - they probably are still the benchmark for TT bikes
  7. I am currently on a 2011 Cervelo P2 with ultegra components. Love my bike to bits but since my return from Ironman I have an extreme itch for something new. The difficult question is what to upgrade to? Obvious choice is the P3 but it is getting on in age. Also looked at the Trek SC 7.5 and 7.8, Argon 18 E118, KTM Solus Master, Felt B12. What do you ride and what do you recon is a decent upgrade on the P2? Thanks,
  8. For the longer events where you might want to take a pee (or if you have a nervous stomach before a race) the two piece works much better.

    2012 Ironman

I've started planning the finer details of the IMSA weekend and have some questions for the seasoned guys amongst us that have been through the process before: 1. According to the rules, we have to have reflective markers on the front and back of your shoes and clothing - what do you guys use for this and where can I get some? Would the reflective writing on my tri shorts be sufficient for the clothing part? 2. Is it correct that we have to take an ID photo to race registration? What on earth for? 3. Anything else that I might have missed? Tips for the day....?
  10. what was the total ascent for the route?

    2012 Ironman

It will also be my first Ironman in April. Had an OK 70.3 and have started increasing the training volume a bit so if everything stays on track everything should go well. What splits are you guys working towards? And can you use your 70.3 time to predict an full ironman finish time?

    IM70.3 SA

Overall a very good race that I wont miss for years to come. Glad to see that everybody had slowish swim times. I got out of the water after what I thought was an very good swim only to see that I was busy for 40min which was a bit of a dissapointment. Had an good bike leg and came in on the 3hr mark. The first 14km of the run also went well and I maintained a nice 5:30/km pace. Then started to get severe cramps in my calves and hamstrings just to bring it home in 6h17min and an overall run time of 2h28min.

So with less than three weeks to go, how is your training coming along? I missed one or two long sessions over the holidays so hopefully I dont pay to much for it on the day....
  15. for some reason the second vidoe doesnt want to show - if you enjoyed the first one, its definitely worth a watch.

  17. I'm in. With the prestige ultra not happening this year, it sounds like a very good idea.
  18. and after sales service on the Look pedals are also excellent. Had one that started squeeking a bit and they where replaced without any issues.
  19. Look Keo is the only way to go!
  20. So back to topic..... what route do you guys ride from groenkloof?
  21. On my way to gym/work in the mornings I see many roadies riding from the Groenkloof area past fountains circle and then either on to Eeufees road or Botha aveneu. I would love to squeeze in a pre work ride once or twice a week - so would you mind sharing youre route? How far? Is it safe to do alone? etc etc.
  22. Where did you see that the race is draft legal? I will be super pissed if I show up with my TT bike just to be told I cannot race. Also find it strange that an Olympic distance race will be draft legal? I also dont see anything anywhere about race registration/number collection? Anybody know? So far organisation of this race look really dodgy....
  23. I changed from Asics Cumulus 12 to Nike Free run 3. Best decision ever.
  24. I also looked at one of these just before i bought my Bianchi. Contacted CycleLab in Fourways and Northcliff cycles who both confirmed that the supplier doesnt have stock of these in the country and that they will only bring them in in 2012. If I remember correctly, retail with ultegra components was close to R40k.
  25. Review of last year's event by Brad Brown.... maybe should have read this before I entered. Lets hope for the best - then again, any tri is a good tri. http://www.bradbrown.co.za/the-running-guy/archives/1187#more-1187
