  1. Hi I haven't been on my road bike for a few weeks now and i need to start training for the 99er. I noticed that something looked weird with my chain hanging very loose. After a bit of an inspection i've noticed that my derailleur isnt in the correct position. My gears shifts without issue but for some reason it looks like the derailleur isn't in the correct position, i've added photos to try and explain what i mean. It looks like the chain drops vertically down into the hanger wheels which causes the slack on the chain. I added another photo of how i think the derailleur should sit. Is this a common thing which i can fix myself? How? or should i take it into my LBS? Thanks, Cobus
  2. I got my XTC in last week, have yet to take her out on a proper trail but loving it so far! I came from a GT Avalanche which i would recommend to anyone looking at the cheaper end!

I usually inform the guard at the gate of anything on the track, just forgot on saturday after i crashed. They should have contact details on their site.

    Oak Valley

My buddy and i past you guys just before that, still told you the road was blocked, wondered how you got through because we only saw you at the end. On the way back my buddy lost it and went off his bike (not good for his first oak valley experience) and 10minutes later there at the steep drop where the go slow signs are i lost it and went over the handlebars. Have riden there dozens of times and the first time i came off. Im still a bit bruised but oak valley is still awesome and i hope to return there soon!

  13. Hi I have an entry level GT avalanche and since about 2 months ago I have had issues with my back brakes. Tektro brakes. I was told to have it bled as that is why it is not working properly. I took it into a LBS and they bled it (so they say) but the brake lever was still very loose. After getting home I took the bike for a spin around the lawn and since then when I pull my back brake it makes an extremely loud shriek noise and it gives a shudder on the bike. So much so that my cadence sensor came loose on the frame. I took it back to the shop they said it was because there were soap or something after the cleaning on the brakes. They cleaned and off home I went. Got home same story over took it back and they “cleaned” it again and the owner of the shop (small 5kg guy) rode the bike and all is well. So off home I go again and guess what still same story, by now kicking myself for not riding the bike at the shop back I go. The owner tells me that this is how the brakes work for a big guy like me it does not stop you dead in the tracks. Even offered me to ride one of the expensive bikes but all shy I said no thanks and tail between the legs I go off home. But it still bugged me because I ride my bike often and I can’t think that I was that paranoid. The sound was almost completely gone but my brakes still weren’t 100% according to me. The next day was a MTB event and luckily one of the other LBS had a small stand at the race and they quickly had a look at took the brake pads out and it was completely smooth. They said that that was my issue and they popped in a other pair of second hand pads they had lying around (for free I might add!) and off I went without issue, except my levers still only took way pulled in and they said it must just be bled. So 2-3 weeks ago I took the bike in again (to the shop that helped me at the event) and they bled the brakes and now my lever is working 100% again. I haven’t been on my bike since as I am training for the burger on my road bike. I saw one of the guys at the shop last weekend and he was asking how my bike was and I said I haven’t really been on it again. So earlier this week I took it out for a spin on the farm and there the noise and shudder is back. It really sounds like something is going to break off or something. What can be causing this? I want to take it back to the shop tomorrow but I don’t want to look like a complete twat, maybe it is something I can sort out myself? Thanks for the help, Cobus
  14. Cool thanks! Was hoping for a pic but i think i got the idea!
  15. Thanks, how did you modify your cleats?
  16. Dankie
  17. Ja i do that as well. I usually rode with thicker shocks but because its a tight fit i got myself some thinner socks but still not working.
  18. I had an ergo fit done so i dont think its the saddle height. I spoke to the guy that did my ergo fit and he said it can either be because my cleats are to forward or because my shoes are too tight on the sides. So my cleats are basically at the most back it can be so im guessing it might be the shoes. I just dont want to go out and buy new shoes and the problem does not go away. Any more suggestions?

  20. Hi I hope i posted this in the right section. Last year I did Die Burger on my MTB with my MTB cleats (CB Candys) using my cheapie Olympic MTB shoes. At kilometre 60 my right foot was hurting so bad under the foot that I had to remove it from the cleat and pedal most of the way back with only my left leg. I could barely walk. So after the race, speaking to some local bike shops, I hear I am getting “hotspots” under my feet which is a combination of the pedal and the shoe I am using, or something like that. So I went out and bought myself a pair of road cleats (the cheap Look ones) and a pair of second hand road shoes with carbon soles. (the shoes are a tight fit but I was told that the shoes must be tight) In the meantime I also acquired a road bike. I’ve been training 1h-1h30m with the bike with no issues but Saturday I took it out for a 3h +- 80km ride and the pain is back at the sole of my foot. Not so much so that I couldn’t pedal but I was walking funny afterwards for an hour or so. Another thing while I ride my toes tend to get a bit numb – don’t know if it is related? What can it be? Are my shoes too tight? Is my cleats not in the correct position? I hope someone can help me because Die burger is in less than 3 weeks. Thanks, Cobus
