  1. I have a buddy that bought a momsen, cant remember which model, think it was the 429. He was 103kg (2.03m), after something like 2 weeks he gave the bike back to the bike shop as the bike was more there then at his house. Every time something else went wrong. And not to dis the make but its quite a reputable bike shop in durbanville so it can't be their work that was crap. He ended up buying a bergamont and has not had an issue with it and the bike almost 6 months old now. And on that, i ride a 2012 Giant XTC, the heaviest i have been is 128kg on the bike. Currently in low 120s and I have no issues. I did replace the original XTC wheels with the anthem wheels (DT Swiss hubs back and front) but i only ever had one spoke break on me.
  2. Nice, did it with my wife as prep for the K2C and finished almost dead last after a lot of pushing the wife up the hills and I am not one of the fittest rider to start off with. But awesome race and will be back next year.
  3. Brytons website is crap, but the local support is awesome. The bb guys have gone out of their way to support me when i had issues!!
  4. I agree, stopped using the actual bryton site over a year ago. I download files onto computer and then upload to strava.
  5. Why dont you just use an thru-axle adapter? http://www.cyclesonline.co.za/novatec-thru-axle-to-quick-release-converter/ http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/za/en/nukeproof-conversion-kit-15mm-to-qr/rp-prod80192 http://www.evobikes.co.za/american-classic-15mm-thru-axle-conversion.html
  6. I had over heating issues last year on the K2C. Im 120kg (give or take a few, depending on what day of the week it is) and went from 160mm to 180mm when i upgraded my brakes from Avids to Shimano SLX, Also went from avid rotors to XT ice tech rotors. it made a HUGE difference. But it could be the brake change/rotor change or rotor size change. But my bike stops without issue now!
  7. Not an issue for the riders but more for the supporters/family coming along.
  9. I have a 600mm bar and i bought myself 780mm (last week) with intention of cutting a bit shorter but going wider as my shoulders isn't that narrow but i have discovered my cables + hoses are too short so i cannot fit the wider bar until i replace hoses, but now over it so if anyone wants a funn 780mm bar give me a shout!
  10. Me, hope its going to be good!

    new bike

A friend of mine got one of those...had it for a few days and took it back. He got a bergamont revox 6.3 (i think) and he is alot happier.
  15. Is it just me or is it getting expensive to do events? R220...i saw namibian events and they ask R100 for the longest and R60 for the middle distances... Compared to R125 for the Tru-Cape...(R100 if your PPA )
  16. I have taken my wife there a few times in the past couple of months and she is new to mountain biking. There is one or two scary spots in the second half of the red route route after you passed the big dam but otherwise it is all good.
  17. But my concerns are is the XTC XL big enough?
  18. I agree as i own one as well! :-)
  19. Ja another what bike to get thread. I have a friend that is still riding on his dads old trek 800 bike from the 90's. His budget is 12k and that must include tubeless. He is just over the 2meters tall (2.03 or something) and weighs 107kgs. As he is a gym fanatic i doubt if he will drop his weight. He did buy a momsen 429 but he had endless issues and it looks like the XL was too small so he got rid of it again. (dont want to go into too much details) He prefers new but if it is a not too old he would consider. Let me know what you think.
